In the newly unfinished Mushroom Forest on the sixth floor.
Xiao Lv stood with both feet rooted in the ground, its roots moving back and forth in the soil, while another Tree Demon planted young branches in the nearby already tilled soil.
The loose soil has good breathability and water permeability, beneficial for root respiration and growth.
Compared to the slow-growing trees, mushrooms grow much faster.
The Fungal Mat had long been laid on the planned ground; although the Mushroom Trees hadn't fully grown, they had started to sprout, and it would take about half a month to achieve initial growth.
At the same time, spores were sprinkled on these young branches. They would accompany the branches in growth, proving beneficial.
The magic power collected from these mushrooms growing on the young branches wouldn't be taken by Lin Jun but provided entirely to the branches to help them grow quickly.
Once these branches grow into Demon Wood, further developing consciousness to become Tree Demons, these newborn Tree Demons would naturally belong to the Mushroom faction.
To help them grow better, Lin Jun experimented with some Puki tools.
In the center of the newly planted branches, a Puki was fixed on the ground, continuously expanding and contracting.
Every contraction sprayed water from the numerous small holes on the Puki cap in all directions, just like a sprinkler.
Underneath it was a special mycelium pipe, though called a pipe, it was essentially an improved mycelium tentacle.
Complex modifications, like adding wings, the dim-witted Puki couldn't handle such configurations without skills, but relatively simple ones like this suction pipe were manageable.
The pipe connected directly to the underground water, with another Puki serving as a relay in the middle.
Simply put, Lin Jun used two Pukis to combine into a sprinkler, and it seemed to work well so far.
Even some Tree Demons would come over to enjoy a "shower" after their work, enjoying the experience of water directly hitting their bark.
After being paroled, Norris, who was heading back to the Slime Room, saw this novel thing.
He approached the spray mushroom like the Tree Demons, letting the droplets hit his white scales.
However, just as he was enjoying the moment, he suddenly remembered something, quickly stepping out of the spray range to open the Yellow-covered Book.
"It's fine if you got wet, right, Yellow Book?"
[You think I'm a trashy roadside book sold for 10 copper coins each?]
[How could I be afraid of water?]
[And by the way, show some respect and call me senior, I was here in the Mushroom Garden before you.]
Wasn't it locked up all the time...
Though Norris thought this, he didn't say it out loud and instead addressed it as a senior as the Yellow-covered Book requested.
Norris originally planned to avoid any association with the Yellow-covered Book since the things revealed during the boss's exchanges with it were quite frightening, making him feel as insignificant as a vegetable in front of it.
However, the Holy Scripture, being an evil book that specializes mainly in enticing people's hearts, even if unable to use Charm, would be useless if it couldn't captivate a 17-year-old boy.
It told Norris a story about a Hero rescuing a princess.
On a certain day in a certain month of a certain year, a princess from a small country was kidnapped by a Giant Dragon, and the Hero took on the task of rescuing the princess.
Along the way, the Hero made companions, explored ruins, and defeated demons, but when he finally found the Giant Dragon's lair, he discovered that the princess had already been digested without a trace, leaving the embarrassed and angry Hero with no choice but to slay the Giant Dragon to avenge the princess.
Upon returning with the failed mission, the Hero discovered that the small country had been destroyed during his absence, leaving no one to remember the dark history of his failure to rescue the princess, which was truly a cause for celebration.
Lin Jun, with the Great Perfection Level 7 Universal Language skill, quietly observed, finding it quite a wicked story, but Norris was engrossed.
Norris, with only a deceased gambler father, found himself in a whirlpool of debt after age 14, so he had few chances to hear stories and was instantly captivated by the evil stories told by the Holy Scripture.
After the Holy Scripture promised to tell him a story every three days, Norris cheerfully agreed to keep it by his side.
...
Lin Jun's Fungal Mat was now extending from the sixth floor towards the Seventh Floor.
According to the Yellow-covered Book, if no rift was found on the Seventh Floor, it meant the beginning was on the sixth floor, so it wasn't much of a problem.
But if there was also a rift on the Seventh Floor, the situation might be more serious.
Yet the possibility was low; if the rift issue were already very serious, adventurers should have noticed it by now.
Lin Jun asked Norris, who hadn't heard any related rumors before he came down at least.
The Seventh Floor is a very special level, and the terrain here could be described by Lin Jun as resembling a sewer.
A huge sewer.
With a waterway over ten meters wide flanked by earthen paths.
The waterways crisscrossed, with the water's surface just seven or eight meters from the ceiling, making the space feel much smaller compared to the heights of fifty or sixty meters on the fifth or sixth floors, and there weren't many demons in this area.
But this is just an illusion; the truly vast part of the Seventh Floor is the underwater space, where the portion above water might be less than one-tenth, filled with aquatic demons.
Prawns, oysters, turtles, strange-headed fish, there's everything, who knows why there's so much that looks like seafood.
Lin Jun liked this floor very much because the only creatures moving ashore were some amphibious demons and an insect living on the ceiling——no Slimes!
Spreading the Fungal Mat was a breeze; those few shore-going demons at most ate some mushrooms and wouldn't deliberately destroy the Fungal Mat.
Lin Jun's Fungal Mat thrives on Firefly Grass, sprawling smoothly with a world of difference compared to the sixth floor.
However, there were still a few minor issues.
Since most of the space on the Seventh Floor was underwater, if there were spatial rifts, they were highly likely to appear underwater.
Perhaps this Underground City was leaking water into other Underground Cities too.
For underwater exploration, a particular batch of Pukis was indispensable.
But Lin Jun's Skill Library had very low skill levels related to water, and the effects of these low-level skills were limited, unable to support Puki in completing underwater exploration tasks.
The highest was [Underwater Adaptation Level 4], which only allowed Puki to stay underwater a bit longer, without aiding in combat or escape.
Lin Jun had already tried launching a few Pukis down, but the outcome was they merely fed the fish; shortly after falling, their broken caps floated to the surface.
There was nothing to be done; Lin Jun had never had the chance to deal with these aquatic demons before, and even the one or two-level water skills were souvenirs from when Xiao Hai went out to play.
Now, to complete the exploration, those skill levels needed to be raised first.
Not too high, up to Level 4 or so would suffice, an easily achievable level that could be put to good use.
However, the issue was that aquatic demons were unlike land demons, where Lin Jun could lead a group of Pukis to charge and eliminate.
Aquatic demons must first be brought ashore or at least lured to the water's surface to have a chance to kill them.
Fortunately, Lin Jun is familiar with this; isn't it just fishing!
