Mushroom Lord in the Underground City

Chapter 137: Resources Previously Overlooked

A pinch of powder ground from Low Level Demon Crystal;

A small cup of processed Slime Liquid, retaining only the stickiness;

Gray Wood Bark from the second floor;

And a precious material from the eighth floor—Firefly Grass.

A Puki crushed and mixed these materials, finally forming a kind of purple coating liquid.

Another dead Puki lay on the ground, its body cut open, revealing a rudimentary spell array crafted by Lin Jun inside its hollow body.

Spread the coating liquid evenly inside, and after it solidified, seal the cut.

Under the effect of [Fungal Filament Reassembly Level 4], the dead Puki on the ground revived shortly.

Controlling the Puki to inject magic power into the spell array within its body.

After a brief flicker, the Puki successfully emitted an orange-yellow glow.

A Lighting Technique Puki was completed!

The initial biggest reason for Lin Jun's experiment failure was the lack of these auxiliary materials, relying solely on fungal filaments to conduct and bind magic power was too forced.

After reading that basic book on spell arrays, and following its steps with some modifications fit for Puki, a Puki capable of quickly casting fixed spells was created.

Dare I say, it's quite a hassle.

This is just the most basic Lighting Technique, its structure is simple, and the required materials are few.

As for advanced spell arrays, Lin Jun doesn't have related literature, but just imagining it gives some clues.

The complex structure of spell arrays might require a Fat Otaku Puki to house it, and the needed materials would possibly be of various high-grade quality.

Summing up, the cost is somewhat high.

Lin Jun's initial idea was to casually craft the structure of a spell array and be able to cast spells, but in the end, like ordinary spell arrays, various auxiliary materials were needed.

The only advantage is that Lin Jun's spell array can move along with the Puki.

In comparison, directly using skills is still more cost-effective.

Just like a magic Puki inscribed with Fireball Technique, it's highly likely less efficient and practical than two Puki with [Mushroom Cannon Level 8] turrets.

Of course, this doesn't mean magic and spell arrays have no value, some special spells cannot be replaced by skills.

The most typical is teleportation, involving space magic.

At least until now, Lin Jun hasn't heard of any skill achieving the teleportation effect.

Therefore, spell arrays and magic must still be studied, positioned as supplements to one's skill system's shortcomings.

But magic is better, a few consumable magic Puki, a few pieces of Demon Crystal, some negligible magic power consumption.

Plus those ten or more various magic books, Lin Jun can slowly get familiar with different spells to enhance casting ability.

But for spell arrays?

The required materials are a big issue, while materials for Lighting Technique can be gathered in the Purple Crystal Dungeon, others are uncertain.

Not to mention, Lin Jun has only one book on spell arrays.

From this, it's clear that spell arrays are either a niche choice among humans, or those who practice them don't become adventurers.

Lin Jun thought it over and felt a two-pronged approach was necessary.

For materials already available in the Purple Crystal Dungeon, I should properly collect some.

Easily stored types like ores, teeth, bark should be slightly stocked.

For those not easy to store, like plant materials that wilt quickly, see if some can be transplanted to hidden places, convenient for easy access when needed.

Not too much, after all, it's just for practicing spell arrays, it's impossible to deplete the entire dungeon's resources.

The more challenging part is the materials not present in the Purple Crystal Dungeon, and more advanced knowledge books.

Seems like I can only disguise and trade with humans to obtain them, money isn't a problem, but Dylan isn't around now…

Norris is out of the question, not to mention I haven't equipped him with [Mimicry], even if he was, I wouldn't trust him with this task.

This unlucky guy's past was just being bullied, mining, and repaying debt, sending him for this task, getting conned would be the best outcome.

In fact, there's another way, using the Yellow-covered Book to charm someone, making them gather everything and bring it back to the dungeon.

This method's drawback is obvious, it essentially ruins the person.

Charm doesn't erase memory, after being freed, that person would naturally spread word of being controlled by a book, causing trouble.

Meaning, to avoid subsequent trouble, Lin Jun would have to deal with someone, each time using it.

What is this, a cult storyline…

After thinking it over, Lin Jun decided to just make do with the materials presently available in the Purple Crystal Dungeon for now.

-----------------

In the cave, Norris walked into a secluded tunnel.

"Hmm… is it… here?"

Following the Fungal Network's guidance, Norris groped his way to a stone wall, whispering the password:

"Puki, open!"

The stone wall slowly opened a gap just like that.

This stone wall was a mimicry disguised using Rock Armor by the Puki, upon closer inspection, the rotating door effect being played by Puki tentacles could be seen.

Behind the mimicry door was an upward sloping passage, leading to some happy little house.

Norris's trip was to retrieve the Yellow-covered Book.

After climbing up the rough, unpolished slope, he couldn't help but breathe heavily.

Then he sensed the presence of many Puki around, but upon looking, there was only an altar and a few stone pillars…

[Junior! You've finally come to get me!]

[I thought I'd be stuck here for months again]

[I've prepared several stories, let's hurry out]

Seeing Norris, the Holy Scripture greeted him like kin, eager to leave.

The Puki usually standing guard around it had nearly driven it crazy.

Norris nodded, holding the Yellow-covered Book to his chest, having applied to the boss before coming this time.

Clang, clang, clang—

Walking out of the hidden passage, Norris heard the sound of mining on his way back.

Norris found it odd, the boss permitted him to take the Yellow-covered Book because there were no adventurers mining in the cave right now, so why was there mining sound?

Having seen the hidden door completely shut behind him, revealing no trace, Norris felt relieved.

As long as no one directly saw the hidden passage, there shouldn't be a problem.

Moving forward, Norris saw a tall woman holding a mining pick, and she noticed him as well.

At this moment, Norris also remembered, the boss seemed to mention a Vampire captive on vacation, left to mine here.

Although unsure how vacation and mining matched, was this Vampire then?

Instinctively, Norris took a step back.

He's never encountered a real Vampire, and every story about them is bloody and terrifying!

Plus, this Vampire woman was about two meters tall, a head taller than him.

Norris felt tangible pressure.

[Move, move, don't mind this guy]

Seeing Norris stopping in place, the Yellow-covered Book urged impatiently.

The Yellow-covered Book didn't like the Demon Race that almost implicated it at all.

When it keenly sensed back then, the Mushroom's hive mind truly considered eliminating it.

If it didn't stay calm under danger, using a slick tongue to prove its value, it might not even have a single page left now.

Under the Yellow-covered Book's urging, Norris took the book, avoided to the other side of the tunnel, and cautiously passed by.

Seeing the Vampire show no additional reactions, he hurried away.

But Louisa kept staring at the Holy Scripture, for a long time after Norris vanished from sight.

Lin Jun received Louisa's private message within the Fungal Network.

"Lord Puki, I wish to pledge allegiance to you!

I wish to trade important information for my freedom!"

In the mine, Louisa kneeled on one knee to a rock wall with sporadic fungal filaments, proposing a deal.

Damn Lord Puki!

Though considering methods like interrogation or charm could achieve the so-called intelligence, Lin Jun nonetheless gave her a chance.

"Let's hear it."

"The Holy Scripture, it's very dangerous!"

My goodness, is this a werewolf game!
