Not only does Chis love peace, but the Puki are equally eager for it!
And so,
As soon as they crossed the Rift, the Puki couldn't wait to throw themselves into the business of "Purification"—diligently clearing obstacles that hinder peace, such as certain Demons constantly refreshing at the edge of the Fungal Mat!
A Heavy Armor Puki covered in scales clumsily rolled into the Rift and immediately encountered Chis's acid attack.
Through many confrontations, Chis discovered that acid was far more effective against the Puki than other methods. Its wide range could kill many at once and was hard to dodge.
The Puki, with only 10 health, would die upon contact and were difficult to revive.
The only drawback was the short range, which resulted in getting heavily beaten when exchanging fire with the Puki's Mushroom Cannons.
However, as a defensive measure for door guarding and stabilization, the acid was exceedingly effective!
Yet, this tactic was clearly ineffective against the Heavy Armor Puki.
The hissing sound of corrosion rang on the Heavy Armor Puki's body, but it couldn't be killed instantly; the next moment, a deafening explosion erupted at the Rift entrance!
Accompanying the shock wave were countless sharp scales shooting out!
In an instant, the Chis in the front row were shot into sieves, turning into a ground full of broken flesh.
Chis's firepower temporarily weakened significantly, and during this gap, more Puki surged in.
Chis reacted quickly, rapidly filling the breach with backup troops, attempting to drive the Puki back, but the Puki were clearly not willing to give up the part they had already taken.
Finally, with the help of a hastily arriving Evil Eye, they barely managed to turn the advancing Puki into stone statues and push the battle line back.
However, this nearly cost the Evil Eye its life!
Faced with the suddenly appearing Evil Eye, a Heavy Armor Puki fearlessly self-destructed.
Its body exploded like a powder keg, and the giant mushroom cap perched on its head was launched like a cannonball!
Unfortunately, the angle was tricky; the mushroom cap, tumbling through the air, deviated from its target and, after a loud crash, embedded itself above the Evil Eye's head in the rock wall!
Rubble rained down like rain, and the startled Chis hurriedly hid the Evil Eye again, not daring to expose it lightly anymore.
However, without the strategic deterrence of the Evil Eye, Chis inevitably began to lose ground in the struggle for the Rift entrance.
When more than half of the two thousand Puki acting as the vanguard were consumed, and even the Puki fragments could float on Chis's oozy Purple Blood, Lin Jun finally deployed the Little Pig to the other side of the Rift.
As soon as Louisa stepped across the Rift, she gracefully raised her arm—
A massive shield, coalesced from viscous Purple Blood, rose with a roar, blocking incoming acid and spikes from all directions!
Following closely behind was a group of Vampire Puki!
[Blood Manipulation Level 4]
Due to the lack of supply channels, they had to train on their own, so their Skill Level wasn't high. But these were genuine Puki with the blood-manipulating abilities of a Vampire!
On a battlefield full of blood, they could be far more useful than ordinary Puki!
With the addition of the Vampire Puki, maintaining the Blood Shield was swiftly assigned to them.
They manipulated the endless battlefield Purple Blood, erecting weak but continuous purple barriers ahead of the Puki army.
Although the strength of a single Blood Shield couldn't match Louisa's, the sheer number made up for it. Several overlapping Blood Shields, with Purple Blood flowing incessantly, blocked Chis's attacks forcefully.
Meanwhile, Louisa freed her hands to perform her signature move—Blood Line.
Numerous hair-thin Blood Lines, like living venomous snakes, deftly wove through their own Blood Shield gaps, shooting into Chis's ranks!
The Blood Lines snaked, entangled, and sliced through the insect swarm... Ordinary Chis had no way to parry such a bizarre and tricky attack, and their counterattacks were all firmly blocked by the Puki's Blood Shields.
Meanwhile, more cannon-fodder Puki continued to pour in like a tide.
Chis tried to resist, but as soon as the Evil Eye returned, it was targeted by several Blood Lines, causing clusters of Purple Blood to explode violently outside its Magic Shield, creating waves!
Seeing Louisa condense a giant Blood Spear at her side, the Evil Eye was forced to withdraw before it could counterattack.
Unable to hold on any longer, and after leaving behind over a dozen corpses, Chis decisively fled!
Cow and Horse Puki immediately flooded in, diligently reclaiming the remnants and scattering spores.
Soon, a Fungal Mat, teeming with vitality and filled with corpses, spread across this cold place—the Puki established their first bridgehead in the Far North!
So cold!
This was Lin Jun's first impression upon arriving here.
Even though the main body had not yet been transferred, it was obvious from the state of the Fungal Mat just how cold it was.
Despite having a level seven [Cold Resistance], the activity of the mycelium was still brutally suppressed, most notably shown by the greatly slowed spread of the Fungal Mat.
Lin Jun had to instruct the Puki to directly scatter spores in the direction of advancement to speed up the laying of the Fungal Mat.
Fortunately, the Chis seemed to have been intimidated; every inch the Fungal Mat advanced, they retreated a step in unison.
Even the areas filled with large meatballs and suspected hatching grounds were easily abandoned by Chis without any resistance.
Have they given up?
Lin Jun did not know that Chis was confined to the mid-level of this Underground City. Seeing them giving up so straightforwardly, he mistakenly assumed they had a wide retreat path to choose from!
Chis was unwilling to clash directly with the Puki, and Lin Jun was happy to easily claim territory and fill in the colors.
However, besides the biting cold, this land left Lin Jun with another deep impression—barrenness.
It wasn't a lack of species, as this was Chis's stronghold, and it couldn't naturally have any vibrant scenes; the barrenness here referred to the lack of Magic Power.
Compared to the surface, it might be a bit higher, but compared to his own Underground City, the disparity was stark!
With the Fungal Mat laid here, the Magic Power harvested was pitifully low; under the same area, the yield was likely just one-fifth of their Deep Area, maybe even less.
It barely counted as slightly above the maintenance cost of the Fungal Mat, leaving a small surplus, but that was it.
With such a low concentration of Magic Power, it's imaginable there wouldn't be many Demons birthed here, no wonder Chis was so eager to plunder across the border once the Rift opened!
With this comparison, Lin Jun was even more hopeful of repairing his own Underground City's core. Otherwise, wouldn't he have to live in this cold and "poor" harsh land in the future?
Accustomed to luxury, it's hard to adjust to frugality...
Right, let's call Xiao Hai and the others over!
-----------------
A warm meatball was thrust into Qiong's arms, who was leaning on a wooden staff, and even through the Leather Armor, Qiong could feel the life pulsating within.
In front of Qiong was a corridor leading outside the ancient castle.
"Qiong! Don't trust it! This thing can't be..." Shou's warning was abruptly cut off!
A claw covered in a shell gripped his throat, the claws sinking deep into flesh, cutting off all his sounds.
Shou's face flushed red instantly, his bloodshot eyes glaring at Qiong, trying to stop him with his gaze from what he was about to do.
Qiong looked at Shou, whose life was grasped in Chis's claws, and hesitated once more.
"Promise, get out, everyone lives." The urging from Chis in his mind carried a hint of urgency.
"What if you break your promise?"
"You have no choice."
After another glance at Shou, disregarding his opposition, Qiong hobbled away.
He didn't trust Chis, just like Shou said, it wasn't trustworthy!
As soon as he stepped out of that boundary, he'd immediately turn around, using the strange meatball in his arms as leverage to force Chis to release Shou!
No matter what, he had to save Shou!
