Clan Prosperity Starting With My Servant Girls

Chapter 99: A Hard Day's Work

Lin Xuan Qi sighed and shook his head.

He wasn't about to let them live in the living quarters and make a mess out of it.

It could make them sick if they didn't take care of their hygiene.

His experience in his university dormitory was an eye opener.

When left on their own, most people are messier than you could ever imagine.

So, getting someone to be in charge was a must.

He reached into his sleeve pocket and pulled out a string of copper coins.

"I always reward those that work hard and take on more responsibility. You shall have ten more copper coins for your allowance every month if you are able to maintain the cleanliness."

He held his hand up high, letting them see the string of copper coins.

The men and women's eyes beamed with anticipation when they saw the string of copper coins.

"Of course, if you can't deliver, you wouldn't get the extra allowance.

"And on top of that, those that are staying in the living quarters would not get their monthly allowance of sixty copper coins."

They glanced at each other excitedly when they heard what Lin Xuan Qi had said.

Never in their wildest dreams would they think of getting so much allowance.

They began to think that it wasn't that bad after all.

Very soon, two of them stepped up to become the personnel in charge of their respective living quarters.

Lin Xuan Qi briefed them on his standards of cleanliness and requested them to only drink boiled water.

So many illnesses could be avoided if they did that, and he wasn't about to let them fall sick, affecting the productivity of the factory.

They were even more surprised when Lin Xuan Qi told them that those who worked hard would be promoted to higher seniority.

"Thank you so much, Master Lin."

"I will make sure that I work to the best of my abilities."

"You are such a saint. My ancestors would be blessing you."

Some of them wanted to kneel to him and thank him.

It had given them hope and that they were not stuck on an endless path.

After the carrots were given out, it was time for the stick.

Lin Xuan Qi began to brief them on the rules of working in the factory.

First, if they breached any safety regulations he had instituted, they would be punished with a beating.

Lee He Song, standing beside him, was menacing enough for them to keep it in mind.

The other rules were about delivering the work.

No one should skive or cause trouble with their fellow workers.

All of them nodded their heads and promised him that they wouldn't break any of the rules.

Lin Xuan Qi just smiled; he had seen enough to know human nature.

Once the effects of the carrots wore off, complacency and unruly behaviors would take over.

Hence, the rules were a must to keep things in order.

He glanced at them and said, "Now, let's get started with the work."

The men and women after putting down their bundles in their living quarters followed him to the main building.

"Set up the fireplace and woks," Lin Xuan Qi started to direct the workers to set everything up.

The woks for carbonizing the clam shells and fireplace to burn the crop stalks were set up quickly without any issues.

Song and his men had crafted the equipment accordingly.

The ironsmiths from the Sima Family were equally skilled.

And the new workers worked enthusiastically.

He proceeded to show them what should be done in each of the stations.

Some of the men and women were designated to handle the task at each station after they tried it out.

Those who were stronger were designated to take delivery of the raw materials and move the finished product around.

After that, he let them operate the production on their own.

Initially, there were some hiccups due to them not coordinating well, or not being used to doing the new tasks.

One forgot about the clam shells and the whole wok of them turned into a black mass of carbon.

They were scared when it happened.

But when Lin Xuan Qi told them to learn and not to repeat the same mistake again, they felt better.

They didn't disappoint him.

After a while, they got the hang of it and the first batch of finished product was put into some of the barrels, waiting to be delivered to the retail shop.

"Great. Song, supervise them while I leave for a while," Lin Xuan Qi said, and Song bowed at him.

He went back to the slave brokerage and fetched another group of men and women to the factory in the west.

The same process happened again for these men and women.

The equipment and raw materials were also delivered and waiting for him in the factory to the west.

The new group of workers also performed well like the earlier group.

Lin Xuan Qi asked Lee He Song to take care of them while he went to the slave brokerage to fetch the remaining ten slaves for the retail shop.

This group was generally 'better looking' and came from a better background.

They had come from families that fell from grace and so most of them were educated to a certain degree.

He went on to teach them on handling the customers and keeping the retail shop running.

"There will be someone called Yue Jie that will come and check on the accounts every day, so don't you dare to think of cheating from the books."

Lin Xuan Qi said with a stern look.

One of the women in the group bowed at him and said, "Master Lin, I will make sure of it."

She was the eldest and most educated among the group, had a plump figure, which the young masters in Da Qian Dynasty liked.

And so, he had designated her as the storekeeper.

Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head at her and said, "Lu Ting, I assure you that it would get busy soon, so keep the place clean and tidy."

The woman, Lu Ting, bowed at him again and said, "Master Lin, I shall make them clean twice every day."

He nodded his head and left the retail shop.

After a busy day of work, he had gotten everything set up.

And on top of that, he had gotten three hundred kilograms of rice delivered daily from the system.

What was left for him were the slaves to be assigned to help Xue Cong, Yue Jie and Yue Xin in the mansion.
