Sounds of clashing swords, laughs, and snarls echoed in a certain area of the Sunblade Savannah—the current leveling zone of the high-ranker novices of Agaron, Botai, and Cameron.
Daru stepped back, creating space for himself and avoiding encirclement with a horizontal sweeping slash that sent all four Hackstroke Hyenas skidding backwards.
It was a pleasant surprise to find that his strength wasn't inferior at all, despite being five levels behind the Swordspawns he was fighting.
It seemed that his guess was correct.
He could now fight spawns that exceeded the level recommendation of his instructor, thanks to his B-tier Triumphant Novice Equipment Set and his newly acquired sword skills.
The Hackstroke Hyenas laughed, but their expressions were nowhere near jolly as they charged once more at their opponent
With further bolstered confidence, Daru rushed right back at his opponents, performing a jumping barrel roll and slashing down at the head of the hyena in the middle before landing
The cut was surprisingly clean, causing a red damage value written in bold text to float up:
[-1,500!]
Cutting an opponent's head off had always been the reliable way to take them out, though Daru couldn't deny that his strike wouldn't be so clean without a bit of luck that time.
He was liking this move he used to defeat the nyaight, Purrcival, more and more.
He shall keep on using and refining it.
Nonetheless, Daru was delighted with the mini-victory, though he couldn't celebrate.
[You've slain a Hackstroke Hyena Lv.31]
[You've obtained 640 + (640) Experience Points.]
[You've obtained 25 Swordcoins.]
[You've obtained (1) Rotten Meat.]
He still had three opponents he had to deal with.
Landing neatly on his feet, Daru turned and assumed his fighting pose once more, quickly scanning his eyes over the three remaining Hackstroke Hyenas.
He instantly knew which one he should strike next.
One was lagging behind the other two, possibly the main attacker after the two vanguards secured his attention.
With a faint grin, he feigned falling for the opponent's strategy before somersaulting to bypass the frontline and firing a red slash mark on the hyena on the back.
The swordspawn, although caught off guard, was able to block the small projectile by crossing its steel shortswords.
But the last thing it saw when it looked up in the next moment was a descending Daru, gripping his tachi in a two-handed reverse-grip and stabbing down at it.
The blade cleanly pierced through its skull, taking the swordspawn out in one hit.
Before it could dissipate into red cubic particles, Daru used its body as leverage, performing a backflip and landing behind the two other hyenas, who were scrambling to avenge their fallen comrade, though they only ended up hacking the poor, already-dead spawn into more pieces as it finally scattered into the four winds.
The two remaining Hackstroke Hyenas quickly turned, shocked to find that Daru was already in front of them, slashing down with eerily focused, borderline-predatory eyes.
The attacked spawn was able to manage a clumsy block, but it was sent flying a few meters due to being off-balance.
The other hyena naturally didn't waste the chance to attack.
However, before its sword could touch Daru, its right hand suddenly separated from the rest of its body.
The bewildered spawn then felt a heavy blow in its gut.
A second later, the hyena felt strong winds brush against its back as it was sent flying one moment and then rolling on the ground the next, bleeding heavily from its severed arm.
Only after a few seconds was it able to begin struggling to stand up.
The Hackstroke Hyena hurriedly looked at its comrade, horrified to find that it was already kneeling in front of the human bladeborn, both arms gone.
With a final slash, Daru severed the head of the hyena in front of him, then turned to the injured one behind him.
He noticed movement in his peripheral vision.
It seemed that he accidentally entered the aggro range of more Hackstroke Hyenas, and there were now three more charging at him from the left.
"Haha, keep coming at me, then! I'll wipe your entire clan out!" Daru, lost in a shallow trance of madness and delight, spoke without thinking too much.
His world had never been so colorful in the past. He couldn't help it.
For the next hour, the cacophony of metal and beastly snarls resounded in the most dangerous area of the Sunblade Savannah, an unbelievable massacre unfolding before the eyes of a lavender-haired young woman hiding behind the acacia Daru previously climbed.
Her mouth was agape, and her eyes were popping out of their sockets as she watched a mere B-ranker like her decimate an entire clan of level thirty-one swordspawns.
She wanted to capture a video, leave, and make a post in the forums.
However, she was deeply mesmerized by the young man's prowess in combat.
She also didn't have the necessary recording items.
Okuni was like a berserk war god as he unhesitatingly rushed towards more enemies, his arms heavy and his breathing an utter mess, yet his eyes…
A mere glimpse of the madness within them made Moonpiercer shudder.
How? How could this young man be so strong despite being of the same rank as her?
Was this the true capability of a B-ranker? Was she doing her Bladeborn Rank an injustice by being so incompetent?
The young female observer's heart and mind were in utter turmoil.
Only when less than a fourth of the entire hyena clan remained, and the battle was momentarily paused, did she recover her wits.
'I-I have to let everyone know! The academy…yes! The academy has to know of him!"
Although quite the easygoing and adventurous individual, Moonpiercer was among the rare few youngsters who sincerely wanted to help advance her race's cause in the Sword Trials.
A beast like this Okuni guy must be nurtured!
And so, despite her slightly shaking body, she hurriedly left the area and headed towards a less dangerous part of the Sunblade Savannah to look for a safe location to leave her body and exit the realm.
Moonpiercer would have to sacrifice a small part of her limited time, but she didn't care.
Her heart was racing, and she was eager as hell to let everyone know someone like Okuni existed.
Maybe the other B-rankers like her would feel more motivated to work harder if they learned of this matter!
Of how strong they could actually be if they just worked hard, grew some balls, and fought like madmen!
