"I wanted..." she choked out between sobs, her voice breaking with emotion. "I wanted you to call me by my name just once. To acknowledge me as your daughter rather than just another disappointment. To show even a fraction of the love that Mother had for you despite knowing what you were. But you're still the same. Still the monster who can't feel anything. Still the heartless bastard you always were."

"Then stop crying about it and finish the job!" Merc Assault snarled with what remained of his strength, his voice growing weaker but no less cruel. "Or are you too pathetic and weak to take revenge on your helpless father? Is Silviana's daughter really such a—"

Sylvara's dagger plunged down with desperate force and severed Merc Assault's head from his body in one clean strike.

The legendary assassin's eyes widened in final shock, then went dark as death claimed him. His body convulsed once, then went still. After centuries of killing, after countless victims across generations, after building a reputation that terrified the entire demon realm, Merc Assault was finally dead.

Sylvara collapsed forward over the corpse, her sobs becoming wails of grief and rage and relief all mixed together. She'd gotten her revenge, killed the monster who'd murdered her mother, but the victory was hollow and painful and brought no real peace to her shattered heart.

Satou stood there for a moment, processing what he'd just witnessed while his own emotions churned. Then, gently, he stepped forward and placed a hand on Sylvara's shoulder in what he hoped was a comforting gesture.

She flinched at the contact, then suddenly turned and threw herself into his arms, burying her face against his chest as she cried with the force of years of pain finally finding release. Her whole body shook with the intensity of her grief, three years of hunting and hating and suffering pouring out all at once.

"It's okay," Satou said quietly, holding her awkwardly as she wept. He wasn't good at comfort, wasn't practiced at offering sympathy or emotional support, but he understood loss and pain intimately. "It's over. He's dead. He can't hurt anyone else ever again."

Even as he spoke those words of comfort, he activated [Devour] on Merc Assault's corpse lying between them.

The assassin's body began to dissolve, essence flowing into Satou in a massive flood of power and knowledge far greater than any other being he'd absorbed in his entire existence. The influx of power was so intense that Satou actually staggered, his knees nearly buckling. Sylvara was still crying against his chest, completely unaware of what he'd just done or the transformation occurring within him.

Knowledge flooded his mind like a dam breaking—techniques and applications and understanding that would have taken multiple lifetimes to develop naturally, all integrated in seconds. He felt his aura swell to absolutely massive proportions, power radiating from him in waves that made the air shimmer and caused visible distortions.

For a moment the entire fortress shook from the sheer magnitude of energy being absorbed and integrated, stones falling from the ceiling and cracks spreading through walls as if an earthquake had struck.

The others watched with varying degrees of confusion and concern. Kelvin and Grimnir had seen Satou's power spike after major battles before, but never anything like this. The scale was completely different—his aura was expanding to proportions that felt almost crushing to stand near. Urgot and Freda had no idea what was happening, only that Lord Satou suddenly felt immensely more dangerous than he had moments ago, his presence almost overwhelming to their senses.

"What's happening to him?" Urgot asked nervously, taking an involuntary step backward.

"I don't know," Kelvin admitted, his eyes never leaving his brother. "Brother, are you alright?"

Satou barely heard the question, too focused on managing the massive influx of power and knowledge coursing through him. After several long seconds, he managed to center himself enough to respond.

"I'm fine," he said, though his voice carried a depth of power it hadn't possessed before. "Just... the aftermath of the battle. The adrenaline fading. Give me a moment."

It wasn't exactly a lie—the battle had been intense, and power surges after defeating powerful enemies weren't unusual for demon lords. They just didn't know the true source or magnitude of what was happening.
