Getting Married to a Yandere Princess

Chapter 40: Ch 40: Four wins

"Three thousand and twenty eight wins!"

"Three thousand and twenty eight wins!"

"Three thousand and twenty eight wins!"

David watched with a proud face as the nameless girl won three matches back to back. For better or worse, her luck aided in her number getting matched thrice in three consecutive rounds.

And at the end of all three rounds, she still stood high above others with six wins under her belt.

"It's afternoon already, when shall my chance come?" He asked more to himself as he watched the sun tilting towards the west.

He wasn't as strong or agile as the nameless girl and it would make perfect sense for him not wanting to fight contestants one after the other within a short span of time.

"Do not tension, big brother. You shall beat them like me. I know you shall." She even made a crushing gesture with both her hands, making him chuckle.

'Ah right, her "big brother"...which would be me.'

Ever since last night, the nameless girl had started calling David as her "big brother". He could guess it started as a result of him calling her as his sister.

'Not that I am uncomfortable with it anyways. In fact, I am happy she sees me as such.'

His attention shifted towards a particular ring. Two young men fought there. Although to David, it didn't even look like a fight, but rather a one sided domination.

His eyes focussed on one of the candidates - long hairs that reached the neck, a humongous face with jaws that looked like they had been tightly clenched from his birth and eyes that radiated more hatred than being just sharp.

"Contestant eighteen wins the fight!"

The large man picked up his greatsword, walking away with a calm face.

'I saw him yesterday as well, performing just like today. What particularly made him stand out in my eyes was the fact that he is the same guy I saw back in that inn...My predictions weren't so off afterall.'

He even saw the old man from back in that carriage in this contest. And not much surprisingly, the man won all his battles. His style wasn't majestic or awe-inspiring like that of the nameless girl nor did he have a dominating presence like the guy with the greatsword.

Instead, he focussed on pure footwork and precise strikes, cumulating points after points from his opponents while rarely letting his opponents score against him.

To David, the old man was indeed the most dangerous out of all the three.

"One thousand twenty four!"

Soon enough, it was time for his first match of the day. This time, his participant was a slender looking girl, her choice of weapon a sword of decent quality.

"Fight!"

David didn't need to be told twice as he leaped into the centre of the ring, taking up more space in the ring for a better freedom in his movements.

Steel clanked against steel, with each blow weakening the rust covered katana. But that was only felt by David since from any other vantage point, it could be seen that he was slowly pushing back the girl.

"Point!" After a shower of swordplay, David broke through her defences, earning a point.

Gritting her teeth, the girl retaliated heavily as she tried to push him away. She rained down hard blows on him to which David put up a defensive posture, raising his katana and absorbing the shocks with the weapon.

"Point!" David's lips twitched, his hands slightly trembling as the girl earned a point as well.

Repositioning, he struck again. The round then turned into a display of swordplay as neither side wanted to retreat.

After a while, the veteran invigilator raised both his hands, signalling the end of five minutes.

"Contestant one thousand twenty four leads the round by seven points, thus making him the winner!"

A few applauses rang out as he sighed in relief. He wouldn't be lying that while this round didn't have any dramatic flair, the swordfight was nevertheless quite intense.

At one point he had even lost count of who was leading whom.

"That was a good match..." With a sigh, the girl stepped forward as she extended her hand.

David smiled at the sportsmanship spirit as he shook the extended hand with respect.

"Likewise."

He went back to the nameless girl who congratulated him.

"I still need to see myself through seven more matches, girl."

To be very honest, he was getting impatient. The sun was drowning beyond the horizon bit by bit and so was the second day of the competition.

If he didn't get matchups soon enough, he might need to fight seven rounds the next day. And he wasn't sure enough he would win in that case, no matter how much he abused the rules.

The nameless girl was called once more as she defeated her opponent with ease, thus winning her seventh round.

Just when he was getting overly worried, he was called once again. In the last round of fights for the second day.

His opponent was a short heighted boy carrying a short spear.

'Well, it's time I change my weapon anyways.'

The moment the match started, he dashed quite fast. And just like the trick the nameless girl had used in her first match, he let go of his own katana as he pushed the boy with his entire bodyweight.

The boy screamed in fright as he stumbled backwards. But before he could completely go out of the ring, David elbowed his opponent as the short spear fell from the boy's hands.

David quickly kicked it into the centre of the ring. Then clutching the short boy in a deadening grasp, he threw him out of the ring.

"One thousand twenty four...wins?"

Even the host from the stage sounded confused seeing the bizzare way David chose to win.

"T-That is cheating. He threw me out of the ring! That's unfair."

The boy protested as an enraged look appeared in his eyes. But the veteran raised his palm, indicating the boy to stop talking.

"Even though the technique might be called unethical to a warrior's code, he didn't use any unfair means. What he did isn't restricted by the rules and thus...he wins."

David grinned as he went out of the ring with the short spear, amidst the stunned crowd of audience.

After a while, the last of the fights in the other rings ended.

Thus, marking the end of the second day.
