The mechanical sound echoed in his ears as David locked his eyes on the second guard, who was standing completely unperturbed amidst the death of his colleague.
'It is a good thing that both of them were standing at two extreme ends of the large gate or else I wouldn't have been able to pull this off.'
He suddenly let go of the vaccum wall as wind rushed forward to fill in the empty space. Unsurprisingly, that made a whoosing noise, catching the guard's attention as he turned to look at his side.
David watched as the guard flinched in his place, his eyes slowly widening as he finally registered the corpse of his colleague on the ground.
"Time to use my technique." David muttered from the covers of the tree as he saw the guard about to shout out in panic.
David raised both his hands as the air around the guard's face was sucked off and a new vaccum replaced it.
The man shouted in despair, already backing off. But suddenly he stopped as he realised no voice came out of his throat.
He muttered something to himself, trying to hear his own voice. But nothing.
At that moment, he realised that the world around him was strangely quiet. Even though he could feel the wind on his skin, the fluttering of leaves on a nearby tree, he couldn't hear anything.
Panicking, he hurried towards the third guard standing at the small gate.
But midway, he felt a suffocating feeling as if he could not longer breath anything. He saw the person standing at the side gate rush towards him.
He tried speaking but no word came out. Suddenly he clenched his throat as the suffocation felt truly unbearable like holding your breath under water for too long.
"What happened? Hey, hey, why are you making such a face? Where is Steve?" The third guard shook his colleague's shoulders as he tried calling Steve, the first guard at the central gate.
"Sadly he won't come, buddy."
The man turned around as he nearly jumped at the sudden presence behind him, standing calmly.
"What are you--" His eyes widened as he saw the blood tainted spear in the intruder's hand.
"Don't take this personally. I am just reaping few unfortunate souls." The spear streaked forward as it pierced the man's chest, instantly killing him.
At the same time, the other guard could no longer take it anymore as he took his last breath and fell to the ground with a dull thud.

The mechanical voice once again chimmed in his ears as David watched his stats increase.
"Sorry buddies, but my existence is crucial." He flicked his spear, shaking the blood on the ground.
Then he crouched on the ground and searched their pockets for any goods.
"Four coppers in total..." He counted them in his palms as he glanced at the factory beside him.
"Not gonna lie, wind element is seriously a lot powerful."
He took a step forward, cutting off the air just as his foot landed.
'Sound needs medium to propagate. Cut it off and you have some useful applications in front of you.' He thought as the foot made no sound against the ground.
This was also the technique how he had appeared behind the third guard without him realising it.
He looked at the tall wall and the massive gates, as he realised there wasn't any proper place to hold onto and climb the wall.
"Wait, can I fly...? If I can suck the wind from somewhere, I can even gather huge amounts of wind at a single point."
He soon waved around him as wind started getting sucked from his surroundings and accumulated at the base of his feet.
He jumped, hoping that the pressure from the winds would be enough to keep him in the air.
*Thud*
But no matter what he tried, he wasn't able to create a pressure huge enough to lift him off the ground.
He sighed, "Seems like the gates are locked from the inside. Well, I guess this factory would be off grounds for me then."
A little disappointed, he walked away from the area, leaving three corpses behind him and taking with himself a few coppers and a small dagger.
'I need to change my clothes as well.' He thought inwardly as he looked down on his blood stained clothes.
'But the night was still young', he concluded as he walked among empty streets, mostly choosing to settle in the shadowy areas.
At times, he came across few common people and sometimes, he would find some shady people.
Then he would stalk these suspicious individuals.
"Hmm...how much do you want to loot?" He spoke firmly as two men flinched at his sudden intrusion.
But when they turned and saw a single guy standing there, they laughed out loud.
"Oh man! You honestly scared me there for a moment."
"I know right! But all I see is a stupid guy trying to play hero."
The latter's laughter suddenly froze as he felt his mouth and his nose no longer able to breathe. He tried shouting at the man in anger but found he couldn't even speak.
He could still feel the vibrations in his throat but no sound came out.
The other man noticing this, looked at him in confusion. But then his senses as a Tier I individual picked up faint traces of mana in the air.
His eyes widened as he felt the wisps of mana coming from the intruder.
"You- what do you think you are doing? Do you even know which gang you are up against?!"
David smiled as he channeled some mana into his legs and dashed forward. The man barely had the time to react before a dagger stabbed him fatally.
"A gang? Why would it matter to me when I would rather wipe all of you out?"
That night, such occurences were not so uncommon as each dying victim tried croaking out their gang's name in hopes of getting mercy from the light brown haired stranger.
But little did they know that the gangs they were so desperately calling for were in reality getting wiped out in a single night.
[...You have gained 1 soul fragment.]
"That was a good harvest." David muttered, stretching his body and yawning at the same time.
He couldn't kill the entire gang since there were even Tier II members among them with few of their top leaders at Tier III even.
'But for now this should be enough.' He thought inwardly, satisfied deeply with his performance.
"...You sure that guy has left the capital?"
A faint angry voice suddenly reached his ears as he looked at his right, at a cluster of houses.
