The Miraculous Treasure Hunting System

Chapter 84. Fishman

After a moment's thought, she replied with a frown, "That is a spell called 'Thorns of Flesh and Blood,' which Nivek the Clown has mastered. It can repair damage very quickly and also strengthen and enhance the body."

"Have you read the three books in Dad's room?" She asked.

Hearing Elena's question, Ed nodded seriously. "I've seen them."

"In fact, spells have a certain degree of adaptability, most of the common spells we can access today have been refined over generations by our ancestors and are designed to work better for everyone."

Having said that, Elena paused, considering Ed's lack of familiarity with the supernatural world. She continued, "When you touch a treasure, the magical power within your body is activated and becomes influenced, to some extent, by the power of the treasure.

"For example, if you touch a flame-type treasure, your magic will instinctively lean toward fire. This makes it easier to learn and use flame-related spells, and their effects will be more pronounced."

This was information not extensively detailed in the books Ed had read, so he listened carefully, not wanting to miss a single point. After all, only by knowing more about the path of his dream could he hope to achieve it.

"In other words, it's better to be selective when interacting with treasures. Of course, for most people, that isn't an option. Merely being qualified to touch a treasure is a great privilege, let alone being picky about it."

"However, it's not irreversible," Elena added casually. "After all, it's just a touch. Your magic only shifts slightly in response. If you later encounter a treasure you truly desire and interact with it multiple times, your power will gradually align with the new treasure."

"Humans are remarkably adaptable creatures," She sighed. "And the same adaptability applies to the magic within them."

I see, Ed thought, rubbing his chin. So, magical power, or the magical veins in the body, is malleable, easily influenced by the outside world, much like one's mood. It's best to choose spells based on personal experience or individual differences. He wondered what kind of spells would suit him best.

A light, salty, humid sea breeze washed over them. It wouldn't be long before they reached the beach.

Seizing the moment, Elena continued explaining. She was an elder sister imparting worldly knowledge so her younger brother's ignorance wouldn't land him in trouble.

"For example, Nivek's 'Thorns of Flesh and Blood' is hardly universal. I've never even heard of it before. It should be unique to him—a spell he comprehended himself."

"What do you mean by 'comprehended'?" Ed asked curiously.

Elena thought briefly before answering, "You should know from the books that touching a treasure can give you a chance to comprehend a spell, right?"

"Mm-hmm."

"The spell you gain is really only suitable for you. Even if you teach it to others, they'd find it very difficult to learn. And even if they managed, its effect and power would be greatly reduced."

"Unless you specifically modify it, weakening its effect and power to a level most people can handle. Of course, not everyone can improve a spell."

"I see… so it's like an exclusive spell," Ed nodded, understanding a little more about this world's extraordinary side.

Thinking about it that way, Jack, that cheap magician ancestor of mine, was actually far more capable than I imagined.

Ed couldn't help but recall Jack's book on spell analysis. In it, Jack had made unique modifications and adjustments to three spells. Not only had he altered the spells themselves, but he'd also researched the materials used to cast them.

At that thought, Ed touched the crystal on his belt. It had completely dimmed and now looked like an ordinary stone. Once activated for the Red Card, it couldn't be closed again, and the energy inside had already dissipated.

He remembered the earlier "Normalizing Cross." Its exaggerated power had shocked him. He'd never imagined such a small, thin card could hold such immense force. Magic truly is mysterious and full of wonders.

"We're almost there," Elena said suddenly, snapping Ed out of his daydream.

They had reached the coast, though this was not a port. The actual port was guarded by soldiers, making it impossible to dock their ship there.

"Duuuuuuuuuuu!"

At that moment, Elena covered her mouth with her hands and made a strange sound. It resembled a subtle, undulating signal that traveled far across the water.

After calling out, she turned and noticed Ed's puzzled, and slightly weirded-out expression. He was wondering whether she'd gone mad; otherwise, why would she suddenly sound like a fish?

But Elena didn't seem bothered by his look. She smiled and explained, "This is a sound wave only Sankaka can hear. He can detect the signal from very far away."

Ed nodded, confused, with only one question in his head: Who the hell is Sankaka, and what kind of name is that?

But since Elena showed no intention of introducing this mysterious Sankaka, Ed couldn't help but recall the wanted posters of her crew. Among the main members, there was one he hadn't met yet. Only one remained.

Sankaka, then, must undoubtedly be the sole non-human among them, a sailfish-man.

The thought made Ed curious. This was an alien race he'd only read about recently. As someone who'd been a fervent admirer of other races, cat-girls, cow-girls, wolf-women, female goblins, mermaids, and more, in his previous life, he couldn't help but look forward to increasing his favor with this fishman. Maybe it could be his ticket to the guy's village, or wherever he lived in the ocean, and a chance to meet the beauties of his race.

Just as Ed was lost in salacious thoughts about exchanging affection with humanoid fish-women and mermaids, a wave suddenly surged in the distance. It was noticeably out of sync with the surrounding calm water.

As it drew closer, a blue fish fin broke the surface. Then, with a whoosh, a figure leaped high into the air, revealing itself in the moonlight.

Watching the figure soar and pose dramatically under the moon, Elena couldn't help but facepalm. Ed's smile also grew inexplicably stiff.
