The Faceless Man

Chapter 40: The Law OF A.O.I

THE SOUL REALM

[4:30]

Boom—

A loud explosion tore across the skies of the domain, sending violent shockwaves rippling through the entire realm.

Through the chaos, the 84th Genki was hurled downward, falling like a nuclear warhead dropped without hesitation.

"He's poison resistant… wonders never end," he muttered, unfazed by the deadly speed of his descent. The wind hammered his back, no cushion beneath him—only the thrill skydivers crave.

Fu!!

Ross was also plummeting from the sky—how he got there in the first place remained a mystery. But one thing was certain: he had caused the blast.

He nailed his legs together, diving like a spear, slicing through the air like a fish cutting through water. The wind clawed at the bruises and blood on his face.

A shocking turn—Ross actually looked like he had the upper hand, but judging by the damage carved into his body, he had suffered far more than the Genki. Proof that humans were never meant for battles like this—proof we're not nature's best work, just pawns in a game of giants.

[Thunder Dash]

Pew!

A sharp whistling sound tore from Ross, like a nuclear bomb falling over a city. Light burst from his feet, catapulting him forward, his body vanishing—only a streak of light remained behind.

Pow!

His fist slammed into the Genki's chest.

"Bhwa—!"

The 84th Genki's mouth stretched open in agony, a thick spit flying out and floating for a brief moment before gravity reclaimed it. Lines formed across his forehead, showing a rare sting of disgust as the pain shot through him.

Boom!!

He crashed into the ground, carving a crater deep into the soil. Dust blasted outward.

Cough! Cough!

The boy whose soul they were inside coughed blood, the images flickering across the mirrors of the realm.

Another Boom!!

Ross landed nearby, breathing hard. His gaze flicked between his enemy and the countdown clock floating in his vision:

[3:57]

His heart hammered. Sweat drenched his face. His knuckles were raw and bloody. Dust floated everywhere, the battlefield choking with silence and tension.

Suddenly—

"Throw me however you want," the Genki muttered, pushing himself up effortlessly—like the impact hadn't even bothered him. Ross had hoped his strategy was working, but the Genki's ease crushed that hope instantly.

"Your attacks are weak. And I can tell you're getting tired—just like I said you would."

He stepped out of the crater, now standing eye-level with Ross.

Ross's whole body trembled. No matter what he did, he was the one taking the punishment. This was an opponent he never wanted to face before fully understanding the limits of his own power.

"Thunder Dash. Time Freeze. Kinetic Bomb. I thought I had you completely figured out. Increasing my endurance was all I needed to counter your entire arsenal."

The Genki stepped closer.

"And now you're resistant to poison? Aaah… I must say, you're one of a kind."

[He doesn't know about your technique.]

Medusaa's voice whispered with excitement—like a devil leaning into your ear, tempting you. Ever since entering the Genki realm, the Genki had been reading Ross's every thought. But this new technique… completely invisible to him.

"Yeah… he doesn't," Ross thought, shifting his expression to something unreadable. Whatever psychic link the Genki used was gone.

[Use it. Use it to your advantage.]

"How many skills can I use before I run out of Glory?" Ross wondered aloud, staring at the Genki with a look that made him seem unworn—a psychological trick he'd picked up.

[See the screen.]

Beep.

The interface materialized. The initials A.O.I burned at the top.

Above them floated a tall capsule filled with shimmering gold liquid.

A percentage glowed at the top: 56% —its full capacity.

At the bottom, another number blinked: 13%.

A thin red line marked the lowest boundary: 5%—a silent warning that going below it meant certain death.

On the right, a bright list of skills and their Glory costs:

Cell Enhancement: 30%

Thunder Dash: 5%

Time Freeze: 15%

Kinetic Bomb: 10%

[The refresh time depends on how much your body can handle,That's why I wanted to train your physique first. Right now you can only maintain your skills for… 110 seconds except for time freeze. And that's without accounting for how worn out your body already is.]

Medusaa dropped the truth—brutal, unexpected, dangerous. A limit Ross never even knew existed.

****(Example: If Ross uses Thunder Dash, 5% Glory is consumed instantly—whether or not he maintains it for the full duration. A skill cannot activate if its cost brings him below the red line. And even if he has enough Glory, his body still must be capable of enduring the technique. )****

Suddenly—

The air shifted.

A wave of toxic gas filled the realm—not foul-smelling, but drenched in pure bloodlust. Black aura seeped from the Genki's body. His skin sizzled. Burned. Transformed.

"Ross Mutt… I'm sorry, but I'll have to break your legs and arms. Cut open your chest. Drink every drop of hope you have… and let you die slowly while watching the boy you tried to save suffer the same fate."

His eyes glowed red.

Cracks ripped open across his chest, straight down. More tore across his face and cheeks, forming a grid of jagged lines. Ross's eyes widened—the transformation looked painful, violent—yet it only made the Genki stronger.

Two massive horns pushed out of his head—similar to Satori's mask, but alive, part of his flesh, like a wild boar turned demon.

"Genki Full Form.

All knees must bow: ZinKa!"

SQUEAK!!!!!

A continous horrific sound blasted across the realm, like a soul screaming. Ross shoved his fingers into his ears—pointless. The sound tore through him. Blood seeped from his ears, nose and eyes.

Then the weight hit.

A crushing pressure—hundreds of times heavier than before. The air itself fought him, colliding violently, as if invisible fists were striking every inch of his body.

"What the fuck is this—?! This isn't an attack… this is just his form manifesting. This thing was holding back…?"

His head was forced downward, the air strangling him, suffocating him.

Suddenly—

"You still have that habit of playing with your food."

A voice. Calm. Cold. Coming from a portal ripping open behind them.

"Hmh?"

The 84th Genki turned, halting his transformation.

Instantly—

The squeaking sound vanished.

The pressure dissolved.

Everything stopped at once.

"Oh. It's you… 32. What do you want?" 84 asked, clearly irritated.

"We've been summoned."

Ross froze. Whoever spoke wasn't even present, but Ross could feel their terrifying power.

"Fuck…"

84th looked down, frustrated, dropping his guard as he walked toward the portal—completely dismissing the opponent he almost killed.

"Just when I was about to get serious."

Half his body faded into the portal.

"We'll finish this another time," he said to Ross.

"The kid will recover. Just get stronger"

He stepped through.

The portal sealed shut, dramatic and cold.

Leaving Ross alone… in the silent, empty realm.

"What the fuck…"
