Chapter 214: I Couldn't Recognize Her

At this moment, Michael and the other two both looked at the source of the voice. It turned out that it was another officer approaching them.

This officer had a slightly chubby appearance, was slightly short, but had an amiable look. In his hand, he was holding a handheld radio.

There was a slightly confused expression on his face as he approached.

All this while, he had been in the police booth, talking to the higher-ups. They were putting a lot of pressure on him regarding the recent kidnapping case, which was why they were actively stopping all the cars passing here, for a police inspection.

But since this place was still close to the outskirts of the city, not many cars usually went through this part. That was why he only had three officers with him.

During the time that he was on the call, he realized that one of his officers had stopped a car here. But the car had stopped for quite a while, and since he was a little distance away, he could not clearly pick on what they were talking about.

But judging from their actions, to the extent that the officer attempted to roughly pull the driver out of the car, he realized that there seemed to be a conflict.

Still, because he was on the call with the higher-ups, he could not immediately intervene. But now, just having finished speaking, he quickly came over to understand the situation.

And as he looked at the officer that was in charge of inspecting this car, he could not help but frown slightly. Why did he seem to be so agitated?

"Tell me, what's going on here? Is there a problem?" He was the sergeant leading the checkpoint. So of course, if a problem appeared here, he would be the one that would have to take responsibility.

The officer was handling the situation wanted to respond, but before he could even say anything, Melvin suddenly spoke up.

As she opened the car's door, she said, "Sergeant, you will have to train these officers below you. What is with his attitude?"

At first, the sergeant was slightly displeased when he heard Melvin's words. He was also not happy with her attitude.

Regardless, he decided that he needed to understand the situation first, before responding to those words.

He was just about to focus on the officer, to listen to his account of what was happening, when he suddenly paused.

He gazed at the lady who had just gotten out of the car, and he could not help but blink. He just could not believe that he was seen right.

Despite her current untidy appearance, the officer could immediately recognize her. After all, was she not the one that was giving the higher-ups a headache?

She was quite a popular figure, having appeared on the news several times. She was considered to be one of the prodigies of the business world.

As a result, the issue concerning her kidnapping was something that raised concerns, to the extent that quite a number of police officers were mobilized in order to search for her.

But it had already been several hours, and yet, there was no any news regarding to her whereabouts. Nobody knew who it was that was behind the kidnap, and neither did they understand the reason, as the kidnapper had not yet given the reason why they kidnapped her.

The police only knew that they had spoken to Melvin's father, who had not revealed the details of their conversation, in fear that his daughter might end up being harmed.

This was something that had led to the police searching headlessly, without even knowing where to start. After all, the city was big, and during the time of the incident, to the time of the report, nobody knew how much time had passed.

But now, seeing her like this, it was an unexpected but welcomed surprise. At this moment, he felt internally excited.

"Miss Walter? I never expected to meet you here? How did you succeed in escaping? Did they perhaps let you go, or did your father meet the conditions that they wanted?" The sergeant quickly approached Melvin before he quickly asked.

Melvin was not that much surprised when this sergeant recognized her. As for how she knew that he was a sergeant, it was simply because of his uniform.

The chevrons on his shoulder marked him as a sergeant. His uniform was otherwise identical to the others, but the insignia set him apart, visible even from within the car.

"I don't know what is going on through the mind of this officer of yours, but he is making some bold accusations. Additionally, his attitude is extremely bad." Melvin immediately complained.

After that, she began explaining what had happened, without omitting anything. And as she spoke, the sergeant's expression shifted.

He could not help but glare at the officer, the moment that Melvin finished giving the description of what had happened.

As for the officer, at this moment, he suddenly realized what was going on. That was especially after the sergeant called out the name Miss Walter.

How could he not recognize that name? After all, the sergeant had been mentioning that name so many times today, making it impossible for him to be able to forget.

And as he looked at Melvin, he suddenly realized that she looked familiar. Did this lady not look like the one that he had seen on the photo before?

All the officers had already been shown Melvin's photo, so that they could recognize her the moment that they see her.

But because he was in a bad mood today, he had not paid much attention to the photo, thus, he only had some rough understanding of the appearance of the person that they were looking for.

It was just that, at this moment, Melvin's appearance was quite untidy. Additionally, the moment that he saw her and Michael in the car, his emotions were stirred.

Thus, he did not even think long the lines that this lady might be the one that they were looking for, and might be like this because she had been kidnapped and had only been rescued.

At the same time, the conversation that Melvin had over the phone suddenly sunk. It was no wonder that she claimed that she was just returning back home, it turned out that she had just been rescued.

As he thought about this, his face lost all color, as he understood, this time, he had messed up.

Not to mention the influence that the Walter family had, just the fact that he had made accusations of her engaging in some 'activities' with Michael, if she decided to pursue it, it could be quite troublesome to deal with.

And as he thought of that, he suddenly remembered something else. Maybe, he could use the fact that the person driving the car did not have a driver's license, in order to wiggle out of this situation?

As he thought of that, he became more determined, as he approached the sergeant.

"I'm sorry Miss Walter, I misunderstood you. Due to your current appearance, I was not able to immediately recognize you." The officer stated as soon as he got close to the sergeant and Melvin.

Melvin did not say anything, as she just glared at the officer. She was already angry at him, as he was making baseless accusations, without any evidence.

Additionally, his attitude was something that she did not like. So for now, she did not want to interact with him at all.

"What nonsense are you spouting? Did I not show you Miss Walter's photo several times already? Even though she looks slightly different than in the photo, is she not the same person? Can't you see some resemblance?

Additionally, we are looking for someone who was kidnapped, not someone who eloped. Since she was kidnapped, you are supposed to expect to find her with an untidy appearance, or even possible injuries.

If you cannot recognize someone just because of a few alterations, how do you have the qualifications to search for her? It seems that you need to undergo training once again." The sergeant was infuriated as he rebuked the officer.

Despite the changes that had happened above them, in terms of the ranks of the officers above, he understood one thing. He could not afford to provoke the big powers within the city, especially considering that they were the ones at fault.

The officer, being rebuked by his superior, in front of a civilian, he could not help but feel a little embarrassed. But more than that, he felt infuriated.

Without hesitation, he glanced towards Michael and said, "But sir, you cannot completely blame me for this. After all, that kid is driving the car without a driver's license.

I asked him for his driver's license, but he gave me a membership card. I thought that he had mistakenly given me the wrong card, but he insisted that it was the driver's license.

How many driver's license have I seen in my life, to the extent that I cannot recognize one? But the kid kept on insisting that this was a driver's license.

That was why things escalated to this extent, in that I even forgot about the fact that we were searching for someone, and not just doing the normal inspection."

The officers words left the sergeant slightly puzzled. But even then, he felt that this officer was a blockhead. Did he not understand the situation?

Regardless, since the officer had already mentioned the issue regarding the driver's license, they would have to handle it first.

As he thought about that, he glanced at Melvin and asked, "Miss Walter, could you allow me to understand what's going on exactly?"
