"N-no! Stop… I sad stop!"
Quaneesha watched in horror as more of her people rushed forward, their battle cries turning to screams as they made contact with Adam.
They already saw the first wave dissolved completely—flesh melting from bone, bones crumbling to ash. And yet… the second wave still didn't hesitate to rush at Adam.
Desperation. Desperation truly is the most dangerous thing. Pair it with bloodlust, well… this is what you get.
"Stop!" Quaneesha screamed, her voice cracking with desperation. "Don't touch him! Stay back!"
But they couldn't hear her over their own roars. Or maybe they chose not to listen. The sight of their comrades dying only seemed to fuel their rage, making them more determined to overwhelm Adam through sheer numbers.
The Game does this. It was weird—none of these people knew each other, most of them would even sacrifice each other. But… desperation.
Adam was also desperate… perhaps. It was hard to tell now.
He continued his relentless assault on the Crystal, each strike sending deeper cracks through its surface. The Shion rang against the surface of the Crystal, each impact causing the hairs of the Blue creeps to stand.
Even as more bodies dissolved, the screams of desperation seemed to fill the air even more.
"Please!" Quaneesha's voice broke as she watched a young woman, perhaps barely sixteen, grab Adam's arm and immediately begin to smoke. "Stop touching him! It's killing all of you!"
She was confused, very much so. She could stop this carnage that was slowly building into a hill surrounding Adam—but if she did so, then Adam's relentless assault would become even more so.
…And how exactly was he even doing this? The Game wasn't supposed to work this way.
Creeps shouldn't have abilities. Yet here was this mysterious Creep, somehow conducting her own electricity through his body, causing the death of hundreds.
And her Creeps… they were beyond reason now, and she couldn't blame them.
They saw their crystal being destroyed, saw their comrades dying, and all they could think about was stopping the threat. They pressed forward in waves, each group smaller than the last as lightning consumed them.
"Stop! Stop! Stop!" Quaneesha's scream echoed across the desert.
And finally… Finally.
The remaining creeps seemed to wake from their bloodlust. And when they did… Oh, did they wake up.
They looked around at the carnage, at the piles of ash that had once been their comrades, at the blood-soaked sand beneath their feet.
"What... what happened to the woman I was talking to?" one of them whispered, staring at a pile of smoking remains.
"Where's Sarah? She was right behind me… I… I forgot to ask for her number."
"Jesus Christ, what is that thing?"
The fear in their voices was infectious. One by one, they began backing away from Adam, their arms lowering as the reality slowly crept into them.
"That's right," Quaneesha breathed. "Please, stay back. Just... just stay back."
It was finally time for Quaneesha to strengthen her abilities. Veins started etching out across her arms… but Adam didn't stop. The Crystal was so close to breaking now—spider web cracks covered its entire surface, and the pillar of light above it flickered like a dying flame.
Quaneesha gritted her teeth and poured everything she had into her lightning. The electricity around her afro exploded outward, forming a massive serpentine dragon that coiled through the air before striking Adam directly in the back.
And finally… Finally.
It was strong enough to make Adam's grip falter. His weapon slipped from his fingers, clattering to the sand as his body convulsed violently.
But even with this, Adam slowly turned to face her, his eyes… looked like they were about to explode from their sockets. Blood leaked from every pore, but slowly…
…he began walking toward her.
"Ain't no way this is happenin'…"
Quaneesha increased the power, pushing her abilities past their normal limits. The air around her crackled with so much electricity that her own hair began to smoke. The lightning dragon grew larger, its jaws clamping down on Adam's entire torso.
But he kept walking.
"What manner of devil..." And once again, Quaneesha found herself stepping away from Adam.
Her power was at its absolute maximum now. Any normal person would have been reduced to ash. Even most Heroes would have been incapacitated. But Adam just kept coming, his empty eyes fixed on her face.
"S-shit. What am—Hm?" Quaneesha's foot hit something in the sand—a dagger, dropped by one of the dissolved creeps.
"Die!" And without thinking, she grabbed it and lunged forward, driving the blade deep into Adam's chest.
Adam stopped. He looked down at the dagger protruding from his heart, then back up at Quaneesha.
She put all her strength behind the blade, twisting it, driving it deeper while putting all the strength of her electricity through it.
"Stay down," she snarled. "Just... just stay down."
Adam's eyes fluttered. His knees buckled… and then his arms finally went limp.
"O-oh…" Quaneesha stuttered, sighing in relief as she felt Adam's weight on the dagger. "I—"
And then his arms wrapped around her in an embrace.
"Wh—" Before she could react to this, Adam suddenly stood on his toes and bit her right on the jugular.
The bite was strong enough that Adam's teeth dislodged from his skull. He tore through his own flesh and muscle, but also through Quaneesha, severing arteries and crushing her windpipe.
Quaneesha tried to scream, but all it turned out to be was a wet gurgle as blood poured from the wound.
She tried to push him away, tried to increase the lightning, but her strength was fading fast. And soon, the world grew dim around her.
And when she went limp, Adam immediately let go of her. He didn't even watch as her body was taken by the Administrators.
Adam stood there motionless at first, as chunks of Quaneesha's flesh slipped from between his broken teeth, sliding down his armor before clumsily dropping to the sand.
He didn't spit. Didn't wipe his mouth at all and just stood there.
The remaining Blue creeps watched in paralyzed horror as pieces of their Hero continued to fall from his lips—muscle, skin, fragments of cartilage. Each drop seemed to echo in the sudden silence.
Adam turned back toward the Crystal, retrieving the Shion with blood-slicked fingers.
The cracks had spread further during the fight.
"W-what the fuck?!"
"Did… did he just kill a fucking Hero?!"
"R-run! Run! That's not a Creep!"
The remaining Blue creeps watched in absolute terror as their Hero faded away into the light. Of course, their only course now was to run away.
They pushed themselves, some rolling and tumbling across the sand as they decided to make their way to the other lanes. But as soon as they did gain distance…
…their bodies began to ignite.
Perhaps, perhaps. The Administrators considered their retreat to be invalid—after all, Adam wasn't a Hero. Their Crystal was still intact. Adam was alone. There were so many variables.
But the most important variable was that… the Administrators were assholes.
Their screams almost woke Adam up from his… trance. And perhaps it did. He let out a small gasp as he turned in the direction of their screams. For the first time since the Emperor's defeat, an emotion flickered across his face.
He watched the fleeing creeps writhe in agony as they died… and tears of blood began to trail from his eyes.
He closed them, and then turned back to the Crystal anyway. He picked up the Shion with trembling hands, and traces of Quaneesha's electricity still trickled across his veins.
And then, he resumed his assault. But each strike now was accompanied by a sob that he tried to suppress.
Adam didn't stop, couldn't stop. Won't stop. He swung and he hammered, until finally…
…the Crystal shattered on the 124th blow.
The pillar of light surrounding it burst, rippling across the dome as the voice of the Administrator boomed across his ears.
[Wow, wow, wow. Wow. Wow! The enemy's Middle Inner Crystal has been destroyed! Keep it up, you are near the finish line now!]
[You are already at the Max Level! Status points will be converted to contribution points! Keep it up!]
[The Administrator, Mikhail, is fighting with Zyhael.]
Adam tilted his head at all the voices whispering at him. He looked at the words floating in front of him and waved them off before wiping the blood on his face.
He then looked at all the corpses surrounding him, his eyes once again empty.
Perhaps even emptier now.
Not yet.
Not yet. This wasn't the time to falter. Not yet, he thought.
And so, he gripped his weapon tightly… and just started making his way to the enemy's Spawn Crystal.
It was close, so close now.
And soon, it was within view.
There was, however, a tiny problem waiting for him there.
"The fuck. I knew it was you creating all these fucking problems, you fucking motherfucking midget. How are you even fucking alive, you fucking puto?"
Carmen, the Berserk Fairy, was already waiting for Adam there.
