He knew this creatures, though they looked more different than when he first saw them at the wastelands earlier, they were still the same creatures.
Iron jaw scavengers!
"Yeah," he said. "Back in the wastelands. They're ambush predators. Usually stay near water sources, but they'll venture out if they smell blood. Their jaws can bite through steel. I can bet they'll be able to tear apart vehicles."
Tatehan spoke like he was some animal expert that knew a lot of information about this animals when in reality it was just informations he learnt while fighting the creatures that his brain seemed to analyze what they could do and where they would stay beside.
Tatehan paused, his eyes scanning the feeds again, cataloging the different creatures he recognized.
More shadow goblins. More iron-jaw scavengers. And there, in the corner of one feed, something even bigger. A hulking, four-legged creature with thick, armored hide and a spiked tail that lashed back and forth as it charged through a barricade.
Tatehan's jaw tightened.
He didn't know this creature, he had never seen one or fought one before but looking at how the commander and Riven looked at him, hoping to hear information, he decided to scan them with the help of his system.
Words appeared across his retina:
*Name:* *Boulder-Back Behemoth*
*Type:* Beast-Class Mutant
*Rank:* A-tier Threat
*Size:* Extra-Large (4.3m tall, 9m long)
*Affiliation:* Wild / Uncontrolled Zone
*Description:*
A massive quadruped with an armored hide resembling cracked stone. Its back is reinforced with dense, boulder-like plates, making it highly resistant to ballistic attacks. The creature's primary weapon is its *barbed, muscular tail*, capable of crushing concrete and impaling light vehicles.
*Abilities:*
- *Armored Carapace:* Extreme defense against physical and heat-based attacks.
- *Momentum Charge:* Gains speed rapidly, using its weight to break through fortifications.
- *Tail Lash:* Delivers high-impact strikes with wide range and armor-piercing force.
*Behavior:*
Aggressive when provoked. Otherwise slow-moving and territorial. Displays tunnel-focused aggression during a charge.
*Weakness:*
Lower belly is less protected; vulnerable when flipped or destabilized. Susceptible to coordinated aerial strikes.
"Boulder-back behemoth," he muttered. "Tough as hell. Takes a lot to bring one down."
The commander and Lyra looked at him in unison, expecting more information.
"Oh, and um…," Tatehan said, scratching his head. "It is big, slow, and built like a walking fortress. That hide? Thick as hell, like some stone. You won't pierce it with bullets, not unless you've got something military-grade."
He took a sharp breath, then continued, feeling the momentum:
"Watch the tail too. Thing's barbed and strong enough to crush a truck. And when it charges, get out of the way, nothing stands once it picks up speed. But it's not invincible. Its underbelly's softer and less armored. Problem is flipping it without getting flattened to nothingness haha."
No one laughed at that last line joke though Lyra smiled to let him know it was kinda funny.
"Air strikes or coordinated attacks work best though. But Alone? You're probably screwed."
The commander crossed her arms, her expression growing darker with each identification.
"So they are from the wastelands," she said.
Tatehan nodded. He wasn't sure this was from the wastelands because he hadn't seen one before but then, went on to conclude that it was.
There were a lot of other creatures he hadn't even discovered yet in the wastelands since it is a pretty large place — a large seemingly empty expanse of land.
"Yeah," he said. "But here's the thing, these creatures don't just wander into cities randomly. They might be irregularities but it's definitely not on this scale. They stay in the wastelands because that's their territory. They don't leave unless something forces them out."
He turned to face the commander fully, his tone serious.
"Or unless something brings them here."
The commander's eyes narrowed.
"You think the Obscuron transported them?"
"Has to be," Tatehan said. "There's no other explanation. He somehow captured these things, or controlled them, and then released them into the city. Probably as retaliation for the fortress."
Lyra's expression hardened.
"He's punishing the city for what we did," she said quietly.
The commander exhaled sharply, her hands clenching into fists.
"Bastard," she muttered.
She turned back to the screen, her eyes scanning the chaos unfolding across Waython Hollow.
"Our forces are stretched thin," she said. "We have soldiers deployed across the city trying to contain the situation, but it's not enough. These creatures are too fast and too aggressive. We're losing ground."
"Crazy how we didn't see them when we were in city, we're just coming back," Tatehan said smiling slightly at that.
"The monsters were noticed and reported just ten minutes ago, twenty seconds after you guys arrived," the commander replied. "
'Oh…'
"I need you both out there," she said. "Coordinate with the squads on the ground. Take down as many of these things as you can. And figure out if there's a central point, somewhere they're coming from, so we can cut off the source."
Tatehan nodded immediately.
"Understood."
Lyra straightened, her expression focused.
"We'll leave now."
The commander nodded, then hesitated, her gaze lingering on Tatehan.
"Be careful," she said, her voice softer now. "You just survived a fall from the sky. Don't push yourself too hard."
Tatehan gave her a faint smile.
"I'll be fine," he said.
The commander didn't look convinced, but she nodded anyway.
"Go," she said. "And good luck."
Tatehan and Lyra turned and headed for the door.
But just before they left, Tatehan paused and looked back at the screen one more time.
His eyes scanned the feeds, taking in the chaos and the fear, the destruction.
He saw the way people ran, screaming and shouting and it only made him angry, his hatred towards the obscuron starting to intensify.
It was nothing that personal before, he just wanted to stop the bad guys, play his part and all that.
But now it was starting to feel a lot more personal.
'If only I can get my hands on the obscuron, I would rip his eyes out and cut his dick off!'
