Morning arrived faster than Nox would've liked, especially considering the events of the previous day.
He woke up early thanks to a knock on their room's door, the long hair sticking on his face.
Maybe he really should cut it.
He groaned, dragging a hand down his face as he sat up. The knock came again.
Whoever it was clearly didn't care that it was barely sunrise.
"Yo, somebody get that," Devon's voice came from the other bed, muffled under a pillow.
"You're closest," Cass muttered from across the room, flipping a page in his book without even lifting his head.
How he was already awake and reading, especially since he was supposed to be the lazy one, was a mystery Nox didn't have the energy to solve.
"Fine," Nox muttered, swinging his legs off the bed.
The floor was cold under his bare feet as he trudged toward the door, his hair falling in messy strands across his face.
He made a mental note to actually do something about it later... without Devon's help of course.
He opened the door and blinked in surprise.
Standing outside was a courier drone hovering beside a familiar lady in green uniform.
It was the secretary at the administration building, Luna.
"Nox," a mechanical voice came from the deone,"You are requested at the Headmistress's office within the next twenty minutes."
Nox blinked again, his eyes were still heavy. "The headmistress?"
"Yes," Luna confirmed with a polite smile. "She said it's... urgent."
He was confused for a short while before he suddenly remembered, the headmistress did say someone wanted to meet him and Ayla, but he didn't expect it to be this early.
"Give me five minutes," Nox said and Luna just nodded with a small smile on her face.
He then walked back into the room and directly into the bathroom.
"Who was it?" Devon asked, seemingly fully awake now.
Nox paused for a second, running a hand through his messy hair as he glanced over his shoulder.
"Luna," he said, "from the administration building. She said the headmistress wants me there in twenty."
"Aight," Devon nodded, "good luck then."
With that, he turned around and pulled up his covers, guess he wasn't actually ready to wake up yet.
Cass was still completely buried in his books, not even noticing when Nox stepped out.
Nox was a bit surprised to see that Luna was still waiting at the door, "let's go?"
He asked, not pointing out the fact thatt she had been waiting for him all this while, even if it was for less than five minutes.
"Hmm," Luna nodded, as they continued walking down the dorm's hallway.
The elf eared girl took a glance at Nox before saying, "you've grown taller."
He paused at her words, before turning to her and he immediately realized that he was a bit taller than her now, unlike when he just arrived.
"…Huh," Nox muttered, a bit caught off guard. "Guess I did."
There was a small smile on his face as he realized that his growth spurt had finally kicked in.
Or maybe it was due to the fact that he was now eating three healthy meals a day. Right now, if one wasn't told, you'd hardly be able to tell he was from the slums.
After that, they walked towards the elevator in silence.
They soon reached it, and with a ding, the elevator doors opened and the two walked it. Luna tapped on an unassuming button, one which Nox guessed would lead them directly to the headmistress's floor.
Just as Astra had said.
"So," he said casually, breaking the quiet, "do you know who we're meeting?"
Luna thought about it for a while before she leaned back against the wall and loosely crossed her arms. "I wasn't told much. Just that someone important asked to see you."
"How important?" Nox pressed.
"Important enough that the headmistress cleared her schedule," Luna replied. "That's all I know."
That didn't help. If anything, it made things worse.
Nox frowned slightly. "Sounds ominous."
"Depends how you look at it," Luna said. "Could be a good thing. Could be a headache."
He let out a sigh, "with my luck? it's probably a headache."
Luna just chuckled as the elevator continued ascending. The silence returned between the two and Nox's eyes couldn't help but drift to her ears.
He stared for a, trying to be as discreet as possible but he guessed he wasn't that great at hiding his stare because she soon turned to him and asked,
"Is something wrong?"
Nox hesitated for a while before he finally let out a sigh and asked, "you're a descendant of someone that underwent the SE harnessing experiment, right?"
Luna seemed a bit caught off guard by the question but she soon narrowed her eyes at him and said, "that's rude."
"Sorry," Nox immediately apologized.
"It's fine," Luna said with a chuckle, "just don't go around asking that."
Nox nodded before also leaning on the elevator's wall, not expecting an answer to his question so he was a bit surprised when she spoke next.
"Yes," Luna nodded, "my great grandpa was part of the experiment before he and my great grandma had my grandpa."
"I see," Nox nodded, hesitated for a while before asking again, "Professor Sirius said the mutations came with some advantages."
It came out a lot more awkwardly than he would've liked since he wasn't sure if he was supposed to ask that.
"Yeah," Luna nodded, "quite a few."
"Like," Nox asked.
"For starters," she said, tapping one of her ears lightly, "heightened SE sensitivity. I can feel fluctuations in Solar Energy long before most people even notice something's wrong."
She paused and looked down at the elevator floor, "and SE control apparently comes easy for my family, but I guess that part of the genes didn't reach me."
Nox awkwardly stood there, it seems he had picked up a knack for making the people he spoke to these two days.
Fortunately for him, the elevator door let out a ding and the doors slid open allowing them to walk out.
"We're here," Luna said, her expression had quickly reverted to what it previously was.
They stood at the door which led to to the headmistress's office and before they could knock, a voice called out from within.
"Come in."
The moment they walked in, Nox froze.
The headmistress and Ayla were already there, but the reason for his surprise was the third person that was sitting with them.
Long black hair and grey eyes which he immediately recognized.
"Seraphine?"
