Solar Ascension

Chapter 133: Nox Vs Calewin [3]: BOOM!

Calewin has been known as a prodigy for as long as he could remember.

Even at the orphanage he grew up, there were barely any kids more talented than him when it came to anything that he tried.

Whether that be the games they played, studies, or even the small acts of mischief that required cunning and creativity, Calewin always seemed to excel.

Teachers, staff, and even visiting benefactors often paused to watch him in action, shaking their heads in disbelief at how effortlessly he outperformed everyone around him.

The only problem with this genius was the fact that he was the definition of laziness.

Rather than using his talents to get the visiting nobles to adopt him, he'd rather spend his entire day sleeping.

No, it wasn't accurate to call him lazy either, it was more so that he quickly got bored.

When he turned fourteen, he decided to try the Academy's entrance test out of boredom and he ended up being one of the youngest students to make it in.

At first, it was fun for him as he got to use different solar techs and stood against proclaimed geniuses.

But it slowly became boring when he realized how easy solar tech was making his use of the SE in his core.

Hence the reason he completely got rid of them, preferring to use his body instead to control it.

Then came spars, at first, as a first year, it was pretty exciting as he could have fun during his fights against seniors.

Well, all that changed when he started absorbing SE from other cores and rapidly ranking up.

The spars became a lot easier until he finally remained undefeatable, which in turn made everything boring.

Even when he's challenged, he'd rather end the fight in a single move and return to sleeping.

His only other entertainment was accepting academy missions and raiding rifts, alone.

Well....until he witnessed a spar between a first and second year while he was roaming the academy in camouflage.

He watched as the first year quickly dismantled his opponent in a single move and that reminded him of himself.

Maybe this first year would make fighting a bit less boring again and he was right.

Although they were both hold back quite a bit, he couldn't deny that he was having fun. For the first time in a long while, there was sweat going down his forehead head as he grinned.

"Let's kick this up a notch, shall we?" Calewin said, his face maintaining his grin.

The ground cracked beneath him as he launched himself forward, the crowd, the nobles, the instructors and everything else had faded as all he could see was his opponent.

Nox readied himself as he let more SE flow through him, he didn't know how much he was using nor did he care.

He didn't know why, but he was very much enjoying this.

Maybe training with Astra is slowly turning him into a battle maniac.

BOOM!

An explosion went off, as they collided in the center, creating a crater on the floor as dust covered them.

Before the cloud of dust could recede, another explosion happened in another part of the platform.

The crowd couldn't see the duo move, the only indication that they were moving were the clouds of dust and the explosions.

"N-Nox is a first year right?" One of the third year students asked.

"H-he's supposed to be." Another replied.

They all basically had the same reaction. It seemed as if two monsters were in the ring and although the fight hadn't gone on as long as the others, it had destroyed the platform the most.

The cloud of dust being enough proof of that.

Inside it, two figures clashed.

Nox felt his bones vibrate with every collision, each strike from Calewin carrying that perfectly timed SE release.

He answered in kind as he also reinforced himself and Morpho with SE.

His fist met Calewin's palm, and the results,

BOOM.

Nox twisted mid impact, teleporting just enough to slide past Calewin's counter, his knee driving upward only to be intercepted by an elbow that detonated SE straight into his leg.

He laughed.

Calewin heard it and his grin widened.

He stepped in, faster than before.

Nox barely had time to react as Calewin's hand snapped out, fingers open, SE compressing so tightly it felt like space itself folded inward.

Nox crossed his arms and braced himself, the impact launched him.

He tore through the dust cloud and slammed into the far side of the platform, tumbling as his back slammed into the barrier.

It glared violently as the impact caused more cracks to appear on its surface, making it look as the next impact would completely shatter it.

Before the crowd could even gasp, Calewin was already upon his opponent again.

Nox's instincts screamed, and he immediately vanished.

Reappearing above Calewin, he drove both fists down, he poured so much SE into them that the glow on them had intensified.

The resulting explosion blew the dust away entirely.

The two figures were revealed in the open, locked together at the center of a widening crater.

Calewin's arms were crossed as he blocked, the attack caused his feet to dig deep into the platform's stone.

But he quickly caused his SE to erupt outward in a controlled blast that sent Nox flipping back through the air.

Nox twisted mid flight, landed on one knee as he caught himself.

Both of them were breathing heavily now.

Sweat ran down Calewin's temple, dripping from his chin as he straightened.

"Yeah," he said, exhaling slowly. "This is it."

Nox looked at his hands, he was feeling quite the strain, and it seems that seal had decided to start acting up, as he could feel his SE flow being restrained again.

He knew he had only a few minutes before he ran out of SE.... Well, rather than run out, it would be more accurate to say that the rest would refuse to come out.

With a sigh, Nox looked at his opponent before powering himself with more SE, before he launched forward, leaving behind a loud sonic boom.

Calewin grinned as he understood what Nox planned, so he responded in kind.

One last move to end this battle.

And the collision?

BOOM!
