"Argh, that stupid pain!" Dante shouted loudly and stored the chaos book into his ring before rubbing his eyes.
Three days passed quickly. After suffering while reading that book, he finally learned and modified the third chaos spell to be used with Sorcerer's Gift.
He still hated how the book was affecting him the more he read. If even enhancing his eyes wasn't enough to reduce the effect, then what was he supposed to do?
"Tsk, it's truly annoying." Dante said in a low voice before walking up the stairs, heading toward the surface.
Of course, speaking his thoughts aloud was intentional.
"That bastard can mimic my thoughts, but he can't control my mouth! Anything that comes out of my mouth isn't being manipulated by him."
That was the best he could do. Eventually, he'd fall into a situation where he wouldn't be able to raise his voice like now. But what could he possibly do? For someone who couldn't even trust his own thoughts now, that was the only thing he could think of.
In fact, he wasn't even sure whether it was truly his idea or not! The possibility that the Sin of Greed had whispered that idea to him had a high chance of being true.
"I hate my life…"
After a moment, Dante finally reached the surface. He scanned the area and quickly found a nearby rock.
"Looks good enough."
Taking a few steps forward, Dante stood before the big rock and placed his hand on it.
The next moment, a chaotic energy, flickering between white and black, moved toward the rock.
Chaos Magic — Chaotic Transmutations!
The rock suddenly began to change. Dante felt that the rock softened, and the next second, his hand went further into the rock, as though the rock had turned into a sponge.
"Well, I think it truly turned into a sponge." Dante narrowed his eyes as he calmly analyzed.
The atomic structure itself changed, turning the rock into a material that was no different from a sponge.
Chaos Magic — Chaotic Transmutations!
Dante used the spell again, his chaotic energy changing the rock again.
The next moment, the soft rock hardened and turned into a glass-like material. Seeing this, Dante's eyes sparkled: "Can it be turned into gold?"
The moment these words left Dante's mouth, deep cracks started to spread across the rock.
Sensing danger, Dante enhanced his body and was about to turn his relic into a shield, but he was late.
BAM!
"Argh!"
The rock shattered, sending tens of shards flying everywhere. Dante barely covered his face before the shards flew at him.
Although his body was too strong to be affected by some glass shards, they still scratched his cheek and forehead, but nothing was serious.
"I should have known something bad would happen…" Sighing helplessly, Dante wiped the blood and thought about his new spell.
"Just like Chaotic Mutations, it causes changes on the things I touch. But unlike Chaotic Mutations, the changes from Chaotic Transmutations are leaning into the nonbiological matter."
Dante continued explaining aloud, looking like an insane person talking to himself in the middle of the forest.
"If Chaotic Mutations can give a monkey some tentacles and claws, then Chaotic Transmutations can turn some soil into burning lava or turn the wood of a tree into something as hard as steel!"
It was truly a pity that he couldn't control those changes. If he did, would they still be called Chaos Energy?
Unfortunately, he couldn't alter the nature of the chaos itself, as doing so would mean turning it back into pure mana.
Everything was left for luck—
"Wait…" All of a sudden, Dante's eyes sparkled as a moment of enlightenment struck him.
"The scientist woman didn't say that no aspects can affect the chaos energy, she only said that she didn't know any…" Just then, a memory resurfaced in his mind: "No. Actually, she herself was able to use her aspect on the chaos energy due to her class, which meant it isn't impossible!"
For the first time, Dante felt that he could finally make good use of something that was almost useless for a long time.
"The effects of the chaos magic depend on luck, sometimes they are harmful, other times they are useful. Doesn't that mean it can cause either fortune or misfortune?"
The idea in Dante's mind was simple.
Luck was basically the concept of uncertainty as far as Dante understood. That uncertainty could also be either bad or good.
Chaos magic had uncertain results, also could be either bad or good!
"Can I affect the chaos attacks using misfortune to make them always give bad results? When I use them on a beast, that beast should always face an uncertain bad effect!"
As that idea formed completely in his mind, he didn't hesitate to move away to search for any living beings.
After a moment, he detected a bunch of fluffy birds with weak spirits.
'Let's see.' Dante thought inwardly this time, afraid that his voice would alert them.
He turned his mana into chaos energy before anything. Once his body contained enough chaos energy to cast the desired spell. Then, he started focusing on his spiritual energy.
"...!"
Just then, his lips curled upward as he successfully moved his spiritual energy by adding misfortune into it.
The misfortune energy moved smoothly through his body. As it touched the chaos energy, it seemed to merge perfectly with it.
'It succeeded! Chaos Energy and the Misfortune Aspect were made for each other!'
Smiling, Dante stared at the birds and cast rapidly:
Misfortune-Chaos Magic — Chaotic Intrusive Thoughts!
Misfortune-Chaos Magic — Chaotic Intrusive Thoughts!
Misfortune-Chaos Magic — Chaotic Intrusive Thoughts!
As the attacks struck the birds' minds, everything turned into real chaos.
Some birds attacked each other with various intents. Some attacked with physical harm, some attacked in sexual ways, and some attacked themselves.
Some birds fell off the tree. They tried to fly, but they just swung their wings randomly, as though their thoughts about flying were always interrupted.
Other birds just decided not to do anything. They felt overwhelming depression and sadness all of a sudden and lost their motivation.
Dante watched all that in awe and happiness. None of these birds had a single positive or normal thought. They all were dangerous and harmful.
He succeeded.
Chaos and Misfortune were truly meant for each other.
