Fafnir, Dante, Ragnar, Mira, and Michael read the news in pure shock.
In the middle of the newspaper, there was a picture of a ruined land. It was filled with cracks and huge dark holes, as if a meteor shower had hit the place.
They'd have ignored all that if not for an arrow that aimed at one specific dark hole, which was the smallest of them all.
There were two words written in bold font above the arrow.
{SILVERWOOD TOWN}
That hole was supposed to be an entire town full of people, surrounded by defensive walls and experienced guards.
Now, nothing remained, and even the hole itself was just one of many.
Sensing that everyone has gone silent, Elizabeth asked in confusion: "What are you reading? I can't see!"
Mira patted Elizabeth's head gently and gulped nervously: "I think something dangerous is happening in Ashton Kingdom right now… you should be glad that you left that cursed place in time!"
Elizabeth's heart sank immediately, the image of Dante flashing through her mind: "Wha-what do you mean? Are they starting a war as well?"
"Worse!" Michael continued: "An entire town called Silverwood Town was erased! There are hints of a huge fight between high-ranked beings. Imagine relaxing in your home with no troubles and suddenly a missed attack destroys you and your town… that's terrifying!"
At his words, Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat. Dante had told her the name of the town that he was supposed to visit.
'Thankfully… Thankfully, he stopped because of a problem with the trade convoy. He's truly lucky he avoided that.'
As relief filled her trembling heart, she noticed something in Michael's words as she asked: "A… a missed attack is able to destroy a town? Is this even possible?"
Ragnar sighed: "The entire land surrounding the town is showing that it wasn't a one-time ultimate attack. There was indeed something big happening that made the destruction of a town look like one random attack."
"Wait, continue reading!" Michael said as his tired eyes widened even more.
After Ragnar and Mira finished reading the news entirely, Ragnar started explaining the entire situation.
"Apparently, a Lord monster of an unstated rank attacked the town. It was so strong that the duchess herself, Lady Morgana, had to ask for help from the former duke to take care of it. It was so strong that even the royal family of Ashthon Kingdom had to help!"
"They sent their deepest condolences to those who had families or friends living there, calling what happened to the town a loss that couldn't be avoided."
Hearing Ragnar, Elizabeth only felt pity toward that town. If even the royal family was involved to take care of that lord-class monster, then that loss was truly unavoidable.
After all, most monsters who were categorized as Lords had their own armies or were strong enough to face an army of the same rank. Those monsters weren't a joke!
"So, did they kill it?"
As fast as that question left her mouth, she heard Mira sighing, causing Elizabeth's heart to accelerate again.
Mira smiled bitterly and said: "The members of the royal family who had fought that creature and the duke are… severely injured."
"As for that monster… it escaped and can't be found."
Thump! Thump!
Once again, Dante's image flashed through her mind. She could only think about him in concern.
'He's nearby! What if that monster found him? What if it found out about his Crown of Existence and tried to force Dante to hand it over? What if it killed him?'
A lot of terrifying possibilities formed in her mind. But suddenly, Mira added: "Well, it's injured as well. It's only a matter of time before they find that monster, you don't have to worry about your friend there."
Mira understood immediately Elizabeth's feelings. She didn't hide the fact that her "pet" was a gift from someone who saved her in Ashton Kingdom.
"And there is interesting news here." Ragnar looked at the lower section of the newspaper with visible interest: "There are a few members of a trade convoy who have a strange story about that incident. They were heading to that town, but someone stopped them."
"Hmm?" Elizabeth frowned immediately. There were many trade convoys moving everywhere every day, it couldn't be Dante's convoy, right?
"According to them…" Ragnar reread the last part as he continued: "One of their members who seemed to be a disguised noble vampire turned out to be a regressor. He knew about that incident before it could happen, saying that he had seen everyone dying there before he regressed. He tried to warn them, but not everyone listened."
"But I can understand them. The regressors are so rare. I don't even know any living person who has regression ability. If someone suddenly said he was a regressor, I wouldn't believe him easily."
'Can it be him?' Elizabeth wondered, remembering Dante's appearance.
It wasn't a common knowledge, but a few people knew that the noble vampires liked to use strange artifacts to hide their eyes as a disguise. Skylar was one of them, and he gave that artifact to Dante.
As she thought about that, she subconsciously hugged Fafnir a bit tighter.
Understanding her feelings, Fafnir wrote a small sentence on her arm, knowing that her sharp senses—which included heightened skin sensitivity—would allow her to understand.
{My master isn't a vampire.}
Elizabeth patted his head in understanding, but she still had doubts. The coincidence was just hard to ignore.
"Did they know who that vampire is?" Elizabeth asked, thinking about Skylar himself: "It's rare to see noble vampires, you know."
Mira shook her head: "There is no other news about that regressor. He just warned the merchants and left them alone. There are rumours that the regressor is a member of the royal family and he tried to warn them before the fight starts, but nothing was confirmed."
Elizabeth nodded and decided to push the matter to the back of her mind for now. The only thing she had was a newspaper, which wasn't always accurate.
Afterwards, they continued reading the newspapers that Mira had just bought, but unfortunately, they weren't as interesting as the first one.
