I Became Part of the Dragon's Hoard

Chapter 55: A Budding M

Bery woke up with the shining sunlight and her dragon's breast as a pillow. She sat up and yawned, taking in the morning sun. The kitten stretched her arms and watched the dragoness blink her eyes open.

"Good morning, sunshine."

"Good morning, Val." Bery purred and allowed herself to be hugged by the dragoness.

The two of them stood up and got dressed for the day. Bery latched onto Valerie's hand, interlocking her fingers with the dragoness.

Valerie stored all of the kitten's materials inside of her space and held tightly onto Bery's hand. "What would you like to do today, kitten? Would you like to explore the town a bit more?"

Bery shook her head. "I got to see what I wanted, and I got to greet several people. I think that is enough for now. Despite everything, I never really knew them very well. I would not allow them to get close enough to me. The only exception to that was Emary."

The dragoness nodded. "I can understand how you felt. I've felt the same most of my life. You're the only one that I've let peer into me and peek behind the curtain."

Bery stood on the tips of her toes and kissed Valerie's cheek. "I love seeing all of you. It makes me feel unbelievably special. How many girls in this world can say that they are loved by the strongest dragoness?"

Valerie rubbed her nose against the kitten's. "You are the only one, unless my white friend has found a mate."

Bery tilted her head. "Was she also into girls? I thought something like that is rare."

Valerie shrugged. "Now that I think about it, I have no idea. I think out of the three primordial dragons still remaining, it is likely that I'm the only one who found a partner. The other two were even more reclusive than me, after all."

Bery grinned and held the dragoness's hand while they walked outside. In the early morning, the people had already started working. People tended to their gardens, and others sold fresh produce in the market. Many of them recognized Bery and Valerie right away, but they didn't try and interrupt the two of them.

Valerie sighed. "These people make me want to take back everything that I've ever thought about humans. I wasn't sure how to feel yesterday when they treated me like a celebrity, and today they look at us warmly."

"It just goes to show that you can't judge everyone based off of bad experiences alone. I was always to shy to reach out to most of the people, but many of them are good. In a place where people communicate to each other every day, they need to get along."

The dragoness nodded. She reached her hand behind Bery's legs and swooped her up in a princess carry. "I think it's time to show them who this princess belongs to."

Bery's face reddened as the dragon's wings expanded.

People watched the commotion, and they watched Valerie take to the air. The serpent held her captured princess and flapped her wings, and Bery instinctively wrapped her arms around Valerie's neck.

Valerie kissed her kitten's forehead. "Let's go see what those other two love birds are up to."

Love birds? Bery's eyes blinked several times before she finally understood. She remembered the two bickering clumsy people waiting for them. In the weeks since they got back to their castle, those two had not stopped butting heads. To Bery, they both seemed like an old married couple that argued nonstop. It made the kitten giggle.

With the speed of Valerie's flying, it didn't take them long to reach the castle. Both of them could already hear the sound of their voices in the hallway.

Valerie landed and opened the large door. She set the kitten down on the ground, and she narrowed her eyes to the two people, standing still as a statue.

Their faces went pale white. Even the vampire seemed to somehow become more ghostly. They stared at Valerie before looking at each other, and then they locked their arms around one another. They embraced in a desperate hug.

Valerie grinned slyly towards her kitten, and Bery nodded. The dragoness strolled forwards, looking between them and a vase on a nearby stand.

Truth be told, Bery didn't even remember seeing that vase, and it seemed the dragoness was the same.

Valerie's face looked confused for a second, and then she corrected it. Her voice became a melody in inquiry. "So, what is all of this commotion about?" She flashed her eyes towards the vase and narrowed them. "Did something happen while we were gone?"

Emary looked at the vampire, and the vampire looked at Emary.

Elanore cast her eyes down at the ground and released the elf. She trudged forwards and kept pressing her two fingers together nervously. The vampire smiled awkwardly and continued staring at the castle floor. "Um, it was all my fault, your excellency…"

Emary jumped in to save the vampiress. "No! That's not true… I also…"

Elanore cut her off with a glare. "No, I am the one that broke the vase. Emary came in to fix it."

Valerie took in their explanations and nodded. She walked over to the table and placed her finger along the smooth exterior. She looked at the red dragon design etched along its surface. It was in the appearance of a long red serpent, coiling around the vase as if hugging it.

The dragoness picked it up and inspected it closer. "Mhm, I see. This is some fine craftsmanship indeed. Though, it seems that it was haphazardly stitched together by nature magic afterwards."

Emary gulped.

However, the dragon stopped her from speaking by raising her palm. "But the truth of the matter is, I've never seen this vase before in my life."

"Huh?" Three voices asked at the same time.

Even Bery was a bit confused. The kitten didn't remember it, but that didn't necessarily mean it hadn't existed before. She simply thought she might have forgotten all about it. There were so many statues along the wall of a dragon that she paid little mind to when she walked the halls. Would she remember if one of them was out of place?

A robotic voice came from further down the hall. Yuri rounded a corner and started explaining. "I wanted to make something for My Lady while the two of you were gone. I thought it would be a good idea to take up pottery in order to train my magic power, so I created this."

Valerie looked between the vase and the golem and smiled gently. "You wanted to do something for me. What happened after that?"

"Well yes, these two were flirting with each other, and they knocked over my handiwork. The two of them argued about who would take the fall the whole time, but there was never any purpose of doing that either. However, I think this is something that humanoids call entertainment. I didn't want to stop them because their performance rattled my circuits." Yuri's voice laughed in monotone.

Emary and Elanore's faces both turned a bright shade of red.

Elanore looked towards the stone implement with indigence. "You, you watched all of that!?"

"Acknowledged."

Bery found herself not able to hold back her laugh. The thought of them fretting and being worried all about something that Valerie never even knew about threw her into a laughing fit. The kitten clutched her sides and held herself up against the wall.

Even the mostly stoic Valerie found herself laughing. She looked over the vase and nodded several times.

"I guess I can consider this a gift from all three of you. After all, I would have never gotten to see this if two clumsy lovers didn't knock it over."

"We're not…" Emary started, but she stopped herself.

Valerie shrugged. "You can call your relationship whatever you want. Ultimately, I will get enjoyment out of this either way."

Elanore pouted. "You are so evil. How can you use our embarrassment as a source of your enjoyment?"

Valerie chuckled. "That's right. I am an ancient and evil dragoness. Your squabbles exist to make me laugh, so please entertain me more as jesters."

Bery frowned and pulled the dragon's cheek. "Don't be too rude to them. There is a limit to teasing, you know?"

Valerie followed the kitten's eyes to the elf who'd started to tear up, and the dragoness sighed.

"I am sorry to the both of you. I should not ridicule either of you."

Emary shook her head. "There is no need for you to worry...I am just so happy…"

Elanore looked at her with a raise of her eyebrow. "You are?"

"Yes, it's been a while since I have had interactions like this. Thank all of you for this."

Valerie shrugged. "I won't question your tastes, but I guess it makes a lot more sense now that I think about it..."
