Chapter 89: Unexpected Visit

Volume 2 Chapter 89: Unexpected Visit

"It was really nice meeting you, miss. You truly have a wonderful household, one I quite envy myself." Lucius and Su were about to leave, and Melissa came to see them off, along with Adrian.

"Likewise, my dear. Please feel free to stop by anytime."

"Wait, you really mean it?" Lucius said with excitement but paused right after, clearing his throat. "Ahem... What I meant to say was that I'll be sure to take you up on that offer, miss."

"Of course, my dear," Melissa chuckled, finding his reaction humorous. She had no idea that she'd get a fan of her own shortly after arriving at the capital.

A carriage suddenly came to a stop in front of the house.

"Young master." One of the guards alighted from the driver's seat before graciously holding the door open for Lucius.

"Come, Su, we best get going."

Lucius and Su got into the carriage. The guard then closed the door before getting back onto the driver's seat with his colleague.

Melissa and Adrian watched them until they disappeared from view.

---

Lucius fell back first onto his bed. They'd just returned home moments ago, yet he still couldn't quite get the memory of his visit out of his mind, especially those of Melissa. It seemed no matter what, a son would never forget his dear mother.

Regarding Snow and the others, he was curious to know how they were faring as well, but that was all there was to it: curiosity.

This new body of his had shortened his feelings, and since it was his current body, one could say that it was surprising the memories of his past life somewhat. Nevertheless, it didn't mean he'd forgotten about them, nor did it mean he didn't care about them either.

"I'll just have to force Leo to agree to my suggestion and have them all attend the academy with me."

"But even if I do manage to convince them... I'll still have to figure out a way to get them into the academy." Lucius pondered to himself while staring at his ceiling, several thoughts fleeting past his mind one by one.

"Perhaps that could work." His eyes flashed with opportunity momentarily when an idea came to mind.

---

The next day, Lucius woke up early. After attending the periodic morning breakfast with his family, he visited the library as usual but decided to spend only a few hours before departing.

He assembled two guards as usual, but this time, decided against taking Su with him. He believed that for this plan of his to work, he needed to convince a certain someone that he wasn't the type to leverage something of theirs to get what he wanted.

He hopped into a carriage, and the two guards drove him out of the estate and back into the capital.

"Stop here." Lucius was staring outside the window through the blinds of the carriage so as not to get lost. When he finally found what he was looking for, he spoke.

"Yes, young master," one of the guards replied politely before bringing the carriage to a steady halt.

The other got down and opened the door for him, allowing Lucius to alight from the carriage, now standing on the sidewalk of the street.

As before, he instructed the two guards to wait for him outside while he went in to deal with matters himself.

Ring... Ring...

The door's bell chimed rhythmically the moment he walked in.

"I'm sorry, but the shop isn't open today." Silvia was busy carrying item after item from the shop and placing it in the back.

"My apologies, but I didn't come for the shop."

Silvia, who had a crate of items in hand, paused and turned around.

"What are you doing back here..." she asked in an annoyed manner when she saw who it was that had intruded upon her shop.

"Let me guess, you chickened out and now you're here to try to get me to take back the grimoire," she said with a flat look on her face.

"Quite the opposite, actually. I loved the purchase I made the last time I came here." Lucius's fingers traced over the surface of a few items as he made his way to her.

"But I'm afraid I'm here for something else entirely."

"Oh?" Silvia looked intrigued. She set down the crate in her hands on a shelf.

"Then tell me, why are you here, then?"

"I'm here to see you."

"I'm afraid I don't follow," Silvia chuckled. Lucius turned around when he heard a clicking sound and saw that the door was now locked. Not only that, but drapes emerged over the windows, blocking out the view of the shop's interior from the outside world.

"I see I didn't mention it last time, but I really don't like jokes..." A chilling aura began to permeate from her body, an aura brimming with so much magical power that the smile on Lucius's face turned crooked.

"I appreciate you telling me that, but I'm afraid you misunderstand." Lucius reached for the amulet around his neck, raising it for her to see.

"I came here to ask if you could help me get a few items."

"What items?"

"Items capable of, let's say, masking one's race, making them appear entirely human without causing too much of a disturbance to be noticed," Lucius said in one breath.

"Quite the inquiry you have there. Is there a reason you need such a thing?"

"Unless you're worried whether I don't want my mother knowing I've fallen for a non-human... I think it's best if you didn't know why."

"You're getting cocky again. I thought I told you I wasn't a fan of jokes." Silvia made a claw-like gesture with her right arm, aiming it for Lucius's face.

"And like I said, I'm not joking about this." Her claws stopped inches from his face, yet the man didn't flinch even a bit, something which struck her as peculiar.

"Can you get me the items or not... I promise I'll be sure to pay you accordingly."

"Alright, but what level of concealment are we talking about?"

"Hmm..." Lucius began stroking his chin, his eyes roaming all over Silvia's body.
