Rune Matrix: Programming Magic After Transmigration

Chapter 116: Magic is not the only solution

Urinating presented too great a risk. Zephyr quickly pulled back his pants. He didn't want to annoy the ladies anymore.

He was wearing a large robe. It covered him entirely. No one would have seen anything from the back. And yet, the damned Elenor was ready to kill him. He needed to be careful.

Tightening the pants around his waist, he slowly turned around.

The stone wall was still behind him. He took a step around it to come out of its shade.

Immediately, he met the eyes of Elenor. She was giving him a menacing glare.

Aurelia, on the other hand, smiled, looking at him. She was trying her best to hold back laughter.

"Actually, Elenor here doesn't mean any harm. She was lacking in sleep." Aurelia tried her best to take on an unserious expression. "The sleepless night must have made her a little agitated. That's why she overreacted. She would never kill you." She explained.

Zephyr was not going to believe it.

The explanation was reasonable. But it was not satisfactory.

Zephyr was sure he had sensed murderous intent from the lady. Although he wasn't familiar with sensing murderous intent, he had the experience of coming face-to-face with a godspawn who wanted to kill him. The subtle mana Elenor released previously was reminding him of that incident.

'The godspawn certainly didn't want to give me a kiss or something. It was most likely trying to kill me…'

Thus, he concluded Elenor's reaction was murderous intent.

He took a deep breath to calm himself.

"Prolonged holding of urine could cause kidney stones." He said, trying to avoid the real topic.

Although Elenor had thought of killing him, she held no malicious intent. The misunderstanding was cleared, and he felt it was unnecessary to delve deeper into the topic.

"Next time you tell someone to stop, think about it." He added, walking to the place where he was sleeping.

There was a grass mat on the floor. He slowly walked to it.

"What is a kidney stone?" Aurelia walked to him and asked.

Elenor was following Aurelia closely.

Zephyr glanced sideways, his lower lip pushed out. Although he had forgiven the eccentric woman, a lingering sadness weighed on him. He turned away, deliberately avoiding her gaze, his expression sullen.

The trust they built up had loosened. Not by much, since there was not that much to begin with. Still, it weakened.

Now, he knew that Elenor could abandon him anytime. If she were given a choice between Aurelia and him, Elenor would absolutely choose Aurelia. It was to be expected since they had a master servant relationship.

'That's why I don't trust anyone.'

He mocked himself for having the idea that two ladies could be trusted.

'Well, Aurelia is not that bad.' He noted in his mind.

"Hey! What's a kidney stone?" Aurelia asked, this time a little louder.

Meanwhile, Elenor went back to her mat and decided to take a nap. The light shining from the horizon did not stop her.

"A kidney stone is a kidney stone. It is kind of self-explanatory, isn't it?" Zephyr picked up an earthen pot nearby and drank the water in it.

"Did you study medicine?" Aurelia asked. "How else could you know about kidneys?"

Zephyr twisted his head around to look at her.

"Doesn't everyone know about those things?"

Aurelia shook her head.

"Absolutely not."

She shook her head harder.

"Only someone like a necromancer or a healer would have that kind of knowledge." She said.

"HM! Is that so?"

Zephyr realised how tightly information is managed in this world.

'They must be deliberately holding back the knowledge from disseminating.'

He couldn't think of any other way.

'They share knowledge among the mages and the nobles, but will never let the poor and weak get to it.'

Sealing the knowledge was an effective way to control a nation. Only the knowledgeable and informed would rebel against a country. So, keeping it away from the lower class means they wouldn't rebel.

Meanwhile, the upperclass is treated differently. They are promised knowledge, power, and wealth. When they have all that, who would want to rebel?

'Azure kingdom should have been no different. They need control over the people. So, like everyone else, they must be limiting knowledge from being transmitted to the poor. Only the elites can learn.'

Zephyr sighed.

Although it was all just an assumption, he knew all too well that it had more chances of being true than false.

'It is certainly a fucked up world.'

Now, he couldn't even complain about how Moss had tried to curry favour from the ladies. If the entire world is working to stop you from growing, what other option did he have?

As he was immersed in his thoughts, Aurelia waved her hand in front of him.

"Did you study medicine?" She asked.

"No." Zephyr shook his head.

"Then. How do you know about the kidney and the kidney stone you spoke of?"

"I must have read it somewhere. It's nothing important. Kidney stones are just something that could clog the kidney and urinary bladder, causing immense pain." Zephyr decided not to give a proper answer. "Anyways, the real question should have been, why couldn't I know about it?" He added, looking at the princess.

"The kidney?"

"Yes. I am also a person. I, too, have a pair." Zephyr chuckled. "Why couldn't I know about it?"

"Well, it is rare for someone to delve into medicine without having an affinity for life magic."

Zephyr found it funny.

"Why are you so obsessed with the term 'healer'? Other people can save lives, too. And why must you constantly rely on magic to cure sickness? Magic isn't the solution to every problem."

His words made Aurelia pause. She had never thought of it before. It was the norm. To use magic to heal. Why would there be some other way? She couldn't grasp what Zephyr was meaning to say.

"Is there any other way?" She asked.
