Rise of the Invincible Upgrade System

Chapter 78: The Unforeseen Duel's Stakes

On the Martial God Hall high platform.

A smug expression appeared on the face of the city councilor, William, as he looked toward Bai Ming. "A disciple of Myriad Sword Pavilion, perhaps he was a bit too arrogant?"

Bai Ming's eye twitched. "So, according to Councilor William, your son is guaranteed to win?"

"Of course!" Councilor William declared loudly, making sure that everyone in attendance, including his son, could hear:

"Fighting a Martial Artist is not the same as fighting a Vicious Beast."

"Even if he has the skill for Nine Swords in a Line, he will never have the opportunity to use it in battle."

These words rang out in the colosseum. Little William could hear them clearly, and his eyes were narrowed at Qin Mu.

Nine Swords in Line? The Myriad Sword Pavilion's ultimate move?

Tsk. Well, too bad I know about it now.

You'll never get that chance. Your Cultivation rank is way below where you could ever hope to pierce my defense as a Ninth-Rank Commander!

Swish swish swish

Little William quickly threw out three shields to shield his entire front while providing just a slit for sight.

Seeing this, Councilor William proceeded with his "commentary" from the stage, obviously instructing his son directly.

"A Mentalist such as Qin Mu has talent, but he is still young. Combat is experience. In combat against beasts, you attack simply. However, against Martial Artists, you must remain calm. Circle him like a vulture. Locate his weakness. and finish him off!"

Bai Ming scowled.

That was not commentary; that was the analysis of Qin Mu's flaws and the provision of the strategy to his son. The Great Grandmaster does an act like this?

Shameless

Noticing the light glare, Councilor William pretended not to know. "Why so quiet, Bai Ming? You were quite optimistic about Qin Mu. If you have a differing opinion with my analysis, why keep quiet?"

He knew exactly what he was doing. Qin Mu had just instantly killed a man. If Bai Ming advised him now, it would seem like panic.

However, the eyes of Bai Ming flashed sharply with light. He smiled. "Councilor William is so confident… Dares to make a bet?"

"Good!" Councilor William did not bat an eyelid; he had just been angling for this. "If my Little William wins, then Myriad Sword Pavilion will need to cover all the medical recovery costs for the Freedom Group's martial artists for the season."

The Freedom Group had many fighters—more in York City than anyone else. Most of their people contributing this year were "useless"; they were injured and only took up resources. To cover their medical expenses would amount to a fortune.

"Agreed," answered Bai Ming promptly.

"However, if the winner is Qin Mu. The Freedom Group will give up its existing positions in Alliance Peak Class."

Hiss

The audience gasped in shock. "The Alliance Peak Class?"

That was the holy land for training future Grandmasters. Losing those places meant sacrificing the future of the Freedom Group's elite power. This could not be bought with money.

"Afraid? Well, then forget it," sneered Bai Ming

The Councilor William is a quick calculator. The Peak Class spots are valuable. but if I win, I get the Myriad Sword Pavilion spots. They have at least five. And the medical expenses in trillions!

"It's a deal!" declared Councilor William. "Alliance Leader, you are witness. I trust Councilor William won't back out."

The Alliance Leader, Wu Po Xing, nodded gravely, looking down at the two fighters. "You both heard that?"

"This battle now comes with heavy stakes. Go all out,"

"When two warriors clash, the braver one always wins!"

A Martial Artist must fight with the determination of death to attain life. "Carve Out your Future!"

What the f*ck?

Qin Mu was very eager to say something.

What does it have to do with me?!

Both of these Great Grandmasters had enormous stakes in his bout, but did they have any plan of dividing it with him?

However, Wu Po Xing had given him some advice previously. Did he think that I lacked experience? Was he trying to advise me that I should try and find a chance for a last-ditch final attack?

Just then, Little William roar, "Die!"

Twelve Flying Blades shot out from behind his shield at complicated angles. Many of those blades curved, evading Qin Mu's front shield and striking him in the back.

With this dangerous fighting style, it was no surprise that they had the audacity to believe they had a chance winning. Indeed, a Mentalist in the wild with only experience with the Vicious Beasts would never learn how to effectively counter these nefarious strategies.

Qin Mu's shields had already suffered considerable damage in the Dragon's Nest. Only a few remained intact; the rest were cracked or scorched.

Under the storm-like assault of the Flying Blades, he parried left and right; it all seemed very precarious.

"What's going on?"

"Why does Qin Mu's shield appear to have melted?"

"The gleam shows it to be an S-rank shield!"

"Hiss."

"To melt an S-rank shield in such a manner. A Peak Ninth-Tier Vicious Beast, correct?"

"Hmm. Wow, impressive! Fire Dragon, perhaps?"

"In order for a shield to incur such damage, one has to engage a Fire Dragon within the Dragon's Nest."

The Martial Artists at the tournament were all elite fighters at Dragon Star. No matter how skilled or unskilled in cultivation, they were incredibly knowledgeable. They were able to uncover the truth within a couple of breaths.

"Fighting a Fire Dragon of the Ninth Tier? And living through it? ''

"His skills… could he have gotten them by defeating a Fire Dragon?"

"Yes, definitely!"

"Tsk tsk. His power is really terrifying!"

"Just a moment ago, Councilor William said that Qin Mu is also familiar with the Nine Swords in a Line skill of ultimate mastery. It has deadly effects, even capable of defeating a Fire Dragon of the Ninth Tier."

"Hmph."

A doubting voice rose above the praise. "An ultimate technique is always good for fighting Vicious Beasts, of course. But what is the point of it all when I'm fighting a Martial Artist?"

"Haven't you heard? This Qin Mu has no experience with humans in battle. He's definitely a greenhorn. A competent Mentalist could finish him off!"

Bai Qingyan listens to whispers. She understands about this one high-stakes wager, and she realizes that this scoundrel named Qin Mu has no choice but to win this for her.

"Alliance Leader," she called out loudly. "Qin Mu's shield is not complete; he needs to finish repairing it!"

The counselor William, looked down at the arena, confident of victory. He was not going to let any circumstances creep in. "Ha? What a joke!"

"When you are fighting Vicious Beasts outside, do you ask the beasts for a chance to fix your shield?"

Huh

Bai Qingyan was truly infuriated by his audacity. 'This is an arena! And Qin Mu has obviously fought a Peak Ninth-Tier Fire Dragon, resulting in the damage.'

"That son of yours, Little William—he wouldn't even have the nerve to glance at a Fire Dragon, much less engage one!"

In an instant, Councilor William's face turned black as an abyss.

Wu Po-Xing's eyes flickered with amusement as he spoke calmly. "The arena has opened. If he isn't fully prepared, that is his own problem."

This...?

"How could this be?" Bai Qingyan was shocked, her body frozen on the spot.
