Trash Prince and Ice Queen 10th Re - Life

Chapter 88: Farewell Friend

After releasing three thousand years of longing, Eledar and Alwyn left the room, leaving Elidyr, Ard, Eva, and Pyria to speak in private. Pyria felt like she didn't belong in such legendary company, but Elidyr insisted she stay and hear everything. He began to recount all that had happened during the three millennia he spent observing the world. He told them how, after Ashton became Azroth and Esmeralda died, he spent two thousand years tracking Azroth's path of destruction as he leveled any kingdom that had sided with those responsible for Esmeralda's death.

When Evelina was born a thousand years ago, Elidyr visited her and unlocked her memories, hoping she could pull Azroth back to his true self as Ashton so they could lead the world together toward a better future. The plan worked—Azroth returned to being Ashton once he reunited with Evelina. But their time was short.

Between the interference of the Demon God Malekh—whose soul fragments were embedded in both Ashton and Evelina—and the Goddess Ophelia, who incited humanity to kill them, they failed to rebuild the world. In a final, desperate move, Ashton broke Malekh's seal so the Demon God could merge back with Ophelia into a single entity named Ordione: a deity with dual personalities, both feminine and masculine.

Elidyr then asked Azroth to place Evelina inside a crystal to imprison Malekh. This was to ensure that the reincarnation magic used to bring them back in the future would remain undisturbed, and to make sure their twin swords wouldn't be lost but would reincarnate with them. It was also Elidyr who placed Azroth into a crystal after he was killed while attempting to open the seal to the gates of hell, which hadn't fully opened yet.

This was why Elidyr and Velvet wrote the prophecies for Fredonia and Orthus; they were certain that Azroth and Evelina would return to finish what they started: uniting the world and killing Ordione. However, the plans made by Azroth and Evelina, supported by Elidyr and Velvet, were discovered. For a thousand years, Elidyr had to watch helplessly as several reincarnations of Azroth and Evelina were murdered as infants in both Fredonia and Orthus.

They were killed by their own families, who refused to let their grip on power be challenged. Finally, after all that time, Elidyr found Ard and Eva—the versions of Azroth and Evelina who actually managed to survive and fight back.

"The reason we elves watch over Fredonia, and why Velvet's vampire descendants watch over Orthus, is that we have been watching over the both of you," Elidyr explained.

"So that was it. My reason for breaking the seal was to force those two gods back into one body named Ordione," Ard murmured.

"I'm sorry, Elidyr. Ard and I don't remember something that important," Eva said.

"It's alright. You've been through so many lives; it's only natural that you wouldn't remember," Elidyr replied.

"But why did Ordione split into two entities in the first place?" Ard asked.

"Ashton and Esmeralda knew the answer to that. It all happened because of a war between the ancient dragons over the title of Dragon God," Elidyr answered.

Elidyr explained that long ago, five ancient dragons who ruled over lava, the sea, the air, the forest, and life itself fought one another for the title of Dragon God. They wanted to rule the world and defy the Goddess Ordione. These five were Zorax, Lucathan, Qoaldriog, Githiess, and Bedryt, the protector of life.

Feeling threatened, Ordione tried to imprison them. But instead of fighting each other, the five dragons launched a surprise attack on Ordione, literally tearing the deity's body in two. Ordione didn't die; the severed halves became two new entities: Ophelia, representing light and the feminine, and the Demon God Malekh, representing darkness and the masculine.

The two new gods created their own factions—humans for one, demons for the other. They used these armies to attack the five dragons, who were exhausted from their own war. Zorax was severely wounded, Lucathan was killed, Qoaldriog went feral, and Githiess vanished. The winner and new Dragon God, Bedryt, immediately struck back at Ophelia and Malekh. He took control of all their creations—both humans and demons—so they would no longer serve the two split gods.

That is why, for thousands of years, both Ophelia and Malekh have used their teachings to try and reclaim control. This power struggle caused non-stop war for millennia, until Ashton and Esmeralda were born. They eventually managed to seal Malekh at the gates of hell, but they soon realized their mistake a thousand years ago when they were Azroth and Evelina. With Malekh sealed away, the world's balance was destroyed. Ophelia's influence made humans even more cruel than the demons because of her teachings.

As Ard and Eva listened, it was as if their memories from three thousand years ago finally clicked into place. They knew what they had to do: force Ophelia and Malekh to merge, then defeat them with the help of the Dragon God Bedryt—who could clearly overpower them even as the combined Goddess Ordione. The two of them immediately gripped each other's hands tightly.

"It seems you finally remember the goal of our journey from three thousand years ago," Elidyr said.

"Yeah. The only reason Eva and I went on that journey was for revenge, because our village was destroyed by demons and our families were killed," Ard replied.

"I... I remember everything. We realized our mistake a thousand years ago. That's why I came to Fredonia... with the goal of reuniting with Azroth and bringing the two great kingdoms together, to break the Demon God's seal and fight Goddess Ordione once they were one again," Eva added.

"Exactly. When a dying Azroth came to the elven village a thousand years ago, he realized the mistakes of that journey too. That's why he asked me and Velvet—who hadn't yet entered her eternal sleep—to trigger your reincarnation and store your bodies in special crystals. We had to make sure Ophelia couldn't take control of your forms until the time was right, because you are the representations of Malekh and Ophelia," Elidyr said with a smile.

"So that's how it is," Pyria murmured.

"You should know the truth about yourself as well, Pyria," Elidyr said, turning his gaze toward her.

"Huh... what do you mean, Elder?" Pyria asked, looking confused.

"Do you still feel guilty because your mother died giving birth to you?" Elidyr asked.

Pyria went silent and looked down, her hands balled into fists on her knees. Elidyr reached out and gently took her hand. Pyria, her expression dark with sadness, looked up at Elidyr as he smiled at her.

"Eighteen years ago, your mother passed away while you were still in her womb. Velvet happened to be in the village at the time, and she immediately transferred you into her own womb. However, because vampire and elven bodies are different, it took her three years to give birth to you. That is why you are only fifteen years old today," Elidyr explained.

"What... really?" Ard asked, stunned.

"So Pyria was born from Velvet's womb?" Eva asked, equally shocked.

Pyria sat in stunned silence, unable to find words. Her mouth hung open and her eyes were wide as her brain tried to process what she had just heard.

"Is... is that true, Elder? So who is my real mother?" Pyria asked.

"You have two mothers. Fayeth, your elven mother and Eledar's wife, and Velvet. Your face is a perfect blend of both of them," Elidyr answered.

"Wait, Count Dimitri knew you too. You were the one who told me that, right?" Ard said.

"Yes... that's right," Pyria replied, still dazed.

"But isn't Velvet in a deep long sleep now?" Eva asked.

"Yes. Her energy was completely spent after giving birth to Pyria fifteen years ago. But she had no regrets; she was smiling. She fell into her sleep right after holding Pyria in her arms," Elidyr answered.

Hearing Elidyr's words, Pyria's face turned deathly pale. A wave of profound sadness washed over her as tears immediately began to flow. Her mouth hung open and her lips trembled, though no sound came out.

"I... I'm sorry," Pyria choked out.

She suddenly stood up and bolted out of the room, tears streaming down her face. Ard and Eva stood up to follow her, but Elidyr stopped them with a shake of his head. Eva turned to Elidyr, her face flushed with anger.

"Elidyr, you really haven't learned how to hold back, have you? You've always been like this, ruining the mood. Poor Pyria—don't you have any empathy for her feelings?" Eva asked sharply.

"Forgive me, Esmeralda, but I had to say it. If I didn't, I would have lived to regret it," Elidyr replied.

"What do you mean, you'd regret it?" Eva countered.

"Elidyr... don't tell me," Ard said, his voice trailing off.

"Yes, I have reached the end of my life. I am just relieved that I could finally see you both one last time before I close my eyes forever," Elidyr answered.

Hearing Elidyr's words, Ard and Eva immediately looked at each other. They knelt in front of Elidyr and took both of his hands. Elidyr looked at them with a peaceful smile.

"I entrust Pyria to you, Ashton, and please watch over her, Esmeralda. She is the daughter of my child, Fayeth, and our friend Velvet. Thank you for visiting me in my final moments. I am at peace now, and I leave this world in your hands. I believe that this time, you will take the right path. Thank you, Ashton, Esmeralda. I will always support you, no matter what. Farewell my friends," Elidyr said.

Elidyr closed his eyes, and his body began to glow with a brilliant light. He dissolved into shimmering particles, like fireflies drifting up into the sky. Ard and Eva shed tears as they watched their old comrade leave them forever, after being separated for three thousand years.
