"Mm, so crunchy! And it's so soft and tender on the inside, and this white sauce goes really well with it," I remarked, as I dipped a chicken strip in the white sauce and took a bite.
So good!
"Thanks, I've been experimenting with different batters and coatings, and this was the one I felt came out the best. I dipped the strips in a batter full of spices and then coated them in a mix of cornflake and cracker crumbs," She replied, before adding as I tried the white sauce again, "And that's garlic sauce, I think it originated in, uh...Middle-Eastern culture? I found the recipe online and it's probably my favorite sauce now."
"I can see why, it's really good. I don't think I've really tried Middle-Eastern food before, and evidently, I need to change that," I responded, before picking up a few fries and dipping them in the garlic sauce, my eyes widening a loud crunch rang out as I took a bite.
Woah, they're super crispy on the outside, but nice and soft on the inside. And the uneven, slightly bumpy shape, these aren't regular fries.
"I'm pretty proud of those, I basically made mashed potatoes, mixed in some herbs and spices and then used a piping bag to-...oh, um, sorry, I guess you wouldn't really care about hearing how I made all this, I'll shut up now-..."
"What are you talking about? I don't mind at all, it's pretty fascinating, actually...and I'm touched by how much work you put into this, so thank you, this really means a lot to me," I assured her, before adding, "Piping bags are those things that, like, bakers use to squeeze icing onto the cakes in fancy patterns, right?"
"Mhm, yeah! It took a while to get it right, though, the fries would fall apart if I made the batter too thin, and they'd be kinda pasty if it was too thick."
"I see, it must have taken a fair bit of trial and error to get it right, huh? By the way, did you make all of this yourself? That's amazing, it couldn't have been easy."
"I, um...yeah. I...I wanted this to be special, so I decided to make everything myself instead of buying out. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far," She smiled, as I tried the chicken skewers.
Woah, so juicy, it's practically bursting with flavor. It's just the right amount of savory, with a spicy kick to it that it's overwhelming.
Hm, the spicy sauce enhances that kick, but the garlic sauce mellows it out...it's good with both, I can't decide which one I prefer.
I then tried the lamb skewers, my eyes widening slightly as I took a bite, the meat practically melting in my mouth.
It was a mellow flavor enriched by some sort of herb blend, and it's unbelievably tender.
"You can slow down a bit, it isn't going to go anywhere," Giggled Aria, a cheerful smile on her face.
"I can't help it, it'sh sho good," I responded with a wry smile, before she picked up her napkin and leaned over.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it, but you've got sauce all around your mouth," She grinned, before gently dabbing the corner of my mouth.
"Heh, thanks. These are just really, really good, I couldn't help myself," I replied sheepishly.
"Yeah, I was really pleased with how the lamb turned out, I didn't expect it to come out so well. I marinaded it in yogurt mixed with a bunch of herbs, and went with a more spicy marinade for the chicken," She explained, as I wolfed down the skewers before picking up the glass of juice and raising it up to my lips.
"Mhm, they're both great, but I'd say the lamb is better, I-...mm, wow. This is so good," I remarked as I took a sip of the juice.
It's tangy but not sour, it's got a pleasant, subtle sweetness to it, and tastes really refreshing. It's pretty fizzy, and so light.
"Yay, I'm glad you like it! It's a recipe we always have at my family gatherings, my grandma and aunts make it, and my mom made it often before she passed away.
My grandma taught me how to make it a while ago. It's a mix of kiwi and passionfruit juice with sparkling water, and some crushed mint leaves and lime added in."
"Mm, this is bad...I feel like I could guzzle down a dangerous amount of this stuff in a very short time," I replied with a content sigh, before turning my attention to the main dish, the burger.
This might be the biggest burger I've ever seen. Not so much in terms of height, but in terms of width, most definitely. It looks she baked the buns herself, she really did make every single thing here herself.
There was a skewer in the middle of the bun, holding it together. I reached down and took hold of the bun on either side, before lifting it-...woah, that's heavy.
Looks like there's a nice, thick beef patty, a thick, melty layer of cheese and a layer a bacon, both above and below the patty. I think I see some caramelized onions too, mixed into the melted cheese. There was a thin slice of tomato and lettuce below, and garlic sauce above the patty and the spicy sauce below.
I gulped before opening my mouth and taking a bite, a delightful mix of flavor erupting across my tastebuds as I bit into it.
Wow!
The burger is juicy and tender, not too savory and just the right amount of spicy. The bacon is crunchy and perfectly greasy, the slight tang of the cheese complements the burger nicely, and the caramelized onions pack a nice, flavorful punch.
And the tomato and lettuce mellow and even out the strong flavors of the other ingredients, the tomato adding to the juiciness of the burger and the lettuce adding a nice crunch.
It's not as though I assumed she couldn't cook or anything, but I wouldn't have imagined she could cook this well.
This is legitimately and objectively one of the best meals I've ever had...and given the context of the circumstances, it's absolutely the best meal I've ever had.
