Chapter 286: X-Ace Clash (Part 4)

As I focused on my Regeneration, the hole in my stomach rapidly closing up, I chanted to draw Desecrator back towards me, before zipping across the air as Jaden fired out several telekinetic blasts at me from his mouth, evading them before I shot towards him at full speed.

I manifested and expanded the jaws of Drain in front of myself, consuming his attacks, which were now weaker than before, before he unleashed a barrage of shockwaves as I closed in on him.

I strained my wings, flapping them with all the force I could muster as Drain absorbed most of the force shooting towards me from his shockwaves, before I unleashed pressurized jets of Negative Energy from the soles of my feet to propel myself forward, closing in on him and driving my blade towards the middle of his chest.

He quickly twisted his body across, grimacing as the edge of my blade grazed the front of his chest, inflicting a shallow cut across his skin and drawing out trickles of blood, before I spun around as I shot past him, a rapid telekinetic blast shooting towards me as he fired out of his mouth.

I narrowly swallowed up the blast with Drain, before I extended several Negative Energy tendrils from my left hand and sent them zipping out towards him.

He flew back before unleashing a shockwave, pushing my tendrils back before backing away through the air and getting some distance, letting out a slow exhale.

He shakily raised his right hand, opening and closing his fist a couple of times, the deep gash I'd inflicted across his bicep almost fully healed now.

Hm, I'm running out of time...it has been more than six minutes since I activated my power boosts.

Enrage aside, I can't afford to fully use up Descent in this fight, and he is likely able to keep fighting for a while longer.

Therefore...

"<Emerge, Apostle of Envy: Invidia>," I chanted, Jaden's eyes widening as a burst of energy erupted before me, Invidia appearing with his head bowed.

"Right, I forgot about that...heh, it's about time! Come on, bring out your other summons too, attack me with everything you've got!" Exclaimed Jaden excitedly, an intense, violent shimmer surrounding his entire body.

"I have no need to do that, as you'll soon come to realize," I responded, before adding as I glanced at Invidia, "You know what to do."

"<Yes, Boss...now, <Pilfer>>!" Exclaimed Invidia, Jaden's eyes widening as the shimmer of his telekinesis abruptly disappeared.

"What just...?"

"Good work. Now, <Withdraw, Apostle of Envy: Invidia>," I chanted, before I shot towards Jaden at full speed as Invidia dispersed and flowed back into me.

He began to raise his right hand towards me, before springing back as I closed in on him, grimacing as a deep gash appeared across the middle of his torso, as I slashed at him with my blade.

He grabbed my left wrist as I drove my hand towards his head, before I broke free of his grasp as I unleashed a Negative Energy burst around my wrist, flinging my blade at him with a sharp flick of my right wrist as he sprang back.

He raised his right arm up defensively, a stifled hiss of pain ringing out as the blade plunged into the middle of forearm, getting lodged in before he gasped sharply as I used Return to forcibly yank the blade back out, blood pouring out of the deep stab wound.

As I lunged at him, I ducked as he whipped the back of his head across at my head, his fist brushing my hair, before I unfurled a rapid upward slash of my blade, slicing into the left side of his stomach before dragging up and across towards his right shoulder.

A violent spray of blood burst out as I inflicted a deep, diagonal gash across his torso, before flicking my wrist to spin Desecrator across, striking his chin with the back of the blade and dazing him.

He stumbled back shakily before collapsing onto his knees, as I stepped forward and grabbed the top of his head with my left hand as I deactivated Descent, my Demonic features fading as I chanted...

"<Mana Pulse>."

He vanished the instant I unleashed the attack, reappearing outside of the barrier, shakily getting back onto his feet, before stumbling back as his legs wobbled unsteadily.

I have three minutes and two seconds left with Descent that I can use today, and just under three minutes before Enrage reaches the end of its time limit as well.

"Oh, man, that was exhilarating! I had an absolute blast, that was so much fun!" He grinned, as he hopped back onto the arena as the barrier faded, before adding as he approached me, "But, uh...what's going on with my Magic? It's not, like...gone for good, is it?"

"No, it will return within five minutes," I informed him, as I sheathed my blade.

"Okay, good, that's certainly a relief. I do have something else to say though, about those summons of yours," He frowned in response.

Is he going to say that me summoning Invidia was unfair?

"I-...," I began.

"Why did you only summon one of them?! I wanted to fight you at your full power, and since your summons are a part of your power, you should've summoned all of them during the match!" He exclaimed indignantly.

Had I summoned Invidia and had him use Pilfer earlier, this fight would have ended much sooner.

However...

"I wanted to see how well I was capable of holding my own against you by myself, I only summoned him at all because I wanted to conserve one of my power boosts for my later matches, so I needed to end the battle quickly," I explained, before glancing at the time limit for Enrage...less than a minute left before I revert back.

"Oh...yeah, I guess that's fair. And, looking back, you probably would've won anyway, that Mana Pulse attack really messed me up, not to mention losing the use of my arms.

All the while, whatever damage I managed to inflict on you healed up right away.

And once that summon of yours took away my Magic, I was completely helpless, and that would've been the case even if I was at a hundred percent physically," He sighed wistfully.

Impressive, he is capable of assessing himself quite objectively, and rather accurately as well.

However, my victory was not entirely assured before I brought Invidia into play, he very nearly defeated me when he drove his arm through my torso, and it seemed like he was about to use that attack again before Invidia used Pilfer on him.

I only barely reacted to the speed he generated with that attack, it was at least partially a fluke.

"If there is a next time, I shall win more comprehensively," I remarked, before heading for the edge of the arena as my time limit with Enrage ticked down below ten seconds.

"Heh, challenge accepted...but I'll be the one to win next time, I'll keep honing and refining my Magic until I can use even more effectively than I can now! Count on it, I won't lose again," He declared with a grin.

"We'll see about that."
