Chapter 323: The Sinners Guild (Part 11)

"<Heh, way too slow. Come on, that the best you've got>?" Smirked Invidia tauntingly.

"Damn it...," Muttered Wrest, before lunging forward and whipping his spear across at Invidia's stomach.

Invidia formed a blade of Negative Energy in his left hand, blocking the slash before swiftly driving his foot out towards Wrest.

Wrest narrowly blocked the kick with the handle of his spear, his feet skidding back across the floor of the arena upon impact, a frustrated look on his face as Invidia stared him down condescendingly.

We'd just returned to the Guild to see how the others were doing, checking up on many of them who were using the training rooms, before heading for the arena, where Invidia was training Wrest.

"Hm? Oh, hey, Kai-...I mean, Guildmaster," Lector greeted me, as I stepped forward to get a closer look at the fight, Aria and Brid trailing behind me.

"You can call me by name if you want, I really don't mind either way," I replied with a wry smile.

"Nah, that doesn't feel right, you don't want people to get the impression that your authority is being disregarded, after all," He pointed out.

"Fair enough. By the way, how's Invidia been doing as a trainer?" I asked him.

"He's actually pretty good at it, though he isn't exactly nice about it."

"<Hah, that was pitiful! You aren't going to hit me with such a wide, telegraphed swing, and you've left yourself wide open, dumbass>!" Sneered Invidia, as he evaded a slash of Wrest's spear before blasting his chest with a burst of Negative Energy, sending him hurtling back.

"See what I mean? He's giving good advice and all, he's just kind of a major dick about it," Remarked Lector with a bemused shake of his head.

"Hm, I think that's fine. Demons love to trash-talk, so this could actually serve as good training to keep your composure while being taunted," Reasoned Aria objectively.

"Huh...yeah, can't deny that. Guess there's no need to tell him to cut it out, then," I replied, as Invidia reached out and grabbed Wrest's handle, as he lunged forward and drove his spear forward with an exerted thrust.

"<What, are you stupid or something? I'm stronger and faster than you, dumbass! In other words, no matter how much force you try to generate, it isn't going to be enough to slip through my defenses!

Try actually using your head, because there's no way in hell you can brute force your way through this>!" Snapped Invidia, before tightening his grip on the handle of the spear and lifting Wrest up and off his feet, whipping his arm across and hurling him away with a sharp flick of his wrist.

Okay, yeah, he really is giving some decent advice, he's just doing it in a way that's, uh...true to himself, I suppose.

"How about Luxuria? How's she been doing as a trainer?" I inquired curiously.

Luxuria's chilling at home today, I decided to alternate having her and Invidia train the others, to avoid overwhelming either of them.

I mean, yeah, they're fully refreshed when I re-summon them, but they can still get mentally worn out.

I haven't gotten any detailed reports on how she's been doing as a trainer yet, though there haven't been any complaints or anything, so I'm guessing she must be doing a decent job.

"Well, she's not as mean-spirited as Invidia, but she likes to play dirty...at least, when she's sparring against guys. She distracts them by saying seductive things and acting suggestive, and then strikes. She doesn't do that against women, though, she trains them in a more standard manner," He informed me.

"Not sure seduction is something you're going to encounter all that much in a Dungeon. Demons are the only Monsters that both communicate intelligently and could be perceived as attractive by humans, but Luxuria's the only one who's tried to use seduction as a battle tactic," Chimed in Aria.

"Yeah, but I think it's fine...maybe seduction itself won't be something you're likely to face, but getting practice ignoring or not falling for distractions should be valuable experience nonetheless," I reasoned, right as Wrest got teleported out of the arena, collapsing onto his knees with a weary sigh.

"<Hm? Oh, hey, Boss! Didn't see you there>," Called out Invidia, hopping off the arena as the barrier faded.

"I got here a few minutes ago. Good work, keep it up," I greeted him with a nod.

"<Got it, just leave it to me, Bossman>!" He grinned with a thumbs up, before calling out as he looked around the space, "<Alright, who's next?! Step up>!"

"Want me to resummon you, if you've taken any damage or anything?" I suggested, as one of the other Hunters stepped up to volunteer.

"<Thanks, but there's no need, Boss. Haven't so much as been scratched yet>," He responded smugly.

"I mean, that's not necessarily a good thing...it could mean that your trainees aren't improving," I pointed out wryly.

"<Huh, yeah, I guess so>," He nodded thoughtfully.

"Well, you've only just started, so it's too early to tell. For now, just keep it up and make sure to keep in mind that your primary task is to help them improve their combat skills and technique.

How you go about achieving that is upto you," I remarked, before adding, "Alright, I'll let you get back to it, I'm gonna go check on some of the others."

"<Sure, Boss, I'll give it my best>!"

"I'm gonna hang back here and fight him next," Stated Brid, with a gleam in his eyes.

"That's fine, but don't use that Limit Breaker Spell, that's off-limits indoors," I reminded him, as I began heading out with Aria.

"Yeah, I know. Don't worry, I'll keep that in mind."

"Think we've only got a couple more Guild members to check on, right? Are we going home after that?" Aria asked me, as we made our way through the building.

"Let's stick around for another half-hour or so, at least. And yeah, we've checked up on almost everyone. Let's see, Iqra's doing some solo training in Training Room 08...I'm curious to see her original Spells, so let's save her for last," I suggested, as I swiped through my I-Watch display, scrolling through the live feeds from the security cameras in the building.

"Yeah, I'm pretty curious about that too," She nodded in agreement, as we strolled through a corridor, heading for the training rooms...
