Chapter 123: Witches and Warlocks

"There are four witches and two warlocks in this world. All of them serve the God of Lust. Getting that title means you're precious, chosen. But their power… it comes in ways most people would call unpleasant."

"Any of them could wipe StoneHaven off the map in minutes without even breaking a sweat. And the one we're dealing with? The fourth witch, Hex, is a seventy-six-year-old hag."

Halo gulped bile.

He knew about the Witches, but he'd never thought they were this strong. If they were, what was stopping Hex from ending it all?

"Hex isn't focused on killing people. Her priority is her creations, the Chaos Eaters, and making them perfect."

Their eyes locked. Leto's words came easily, carelessly even, like none of it touched him. The confidence radiated off him.

"Why StoneHaven, though? Why not Sinners instead? That would've been so much easier."

Leto relaxed.

"No one knows why she went for StoneHaven… but the thing to remember is, Chaos Eaters used to be Sinners, and now they have stretched into looking human."

Leto abruptly snapped his fingers.

"I know what you're thinking. Why are these people so important to the God of Lust? Simply put… everything."

"Witches and warlocks… a nightmare of a kind you can't imagine. They could make people tear their own flesh for pleasure. Some can do worse, just a whisper, and someone could use anything nearby… swords, humans, Sinners."

His eyes narrowed, and his voice dropped deep.

"There was a witch who entered a safe zone, population nearly as large as StoneHaven.

In under thirty seconds, she had the men in her thrall.

She watched, amused, her laughter twisting in the air, as they indulged themselves with whatever was at hand—men, women, rocks, metals… anything."

Halo's skin ran pale as goosebumps coursed through it.

"That's exactly what pleases the God of Lust.

I have a feeling Hex plans to use the Chaos Eaters the same way. If she succeeds… there could be Sinners as dangerous as the witches and warlocks themselves."

Leto stared into Halo's deadpan eyes and flashed him a big grin.

"We are damned!"

The words came out eager, excited, like a kid who just got exactly what they wanted.

But the main problem remained. Hex was a catastrophe waiting to happen, powerful enough to end everything by speaking. How did they stop someone like that?

He was dead certain about one thing, he wanted no part of fucking with that.

"What must we do?"

That cocky smile on Leto's lips said a lot, he was sick in the head.

"I don't know… but I know I can kill all of them if I wanted to."

Halo gave him a darkened look and sneered.

"We can't move against them yet… not without a sign. But if you want, learning about the witches might give you an edge."

Leto stood and smoothed down his green vest before heading upstairs.

Halo leaned back in his seat and clutched his wounded chest. He'd gotten lucky, one wrong move, and Fuji would've torn his heart out.

A shadow without a heart, very practical.

While he rested, Light took form and began stretching his body.

He stared at the clone, puzzled. Something had changed, but he couldn't quite grasp what. Felt like a parent sensing something wrong with their kid.

"Hey, buddy? Have you increased in rank or something?"

Light spun toward him, eyes glowing, and struck a pose he probably thought was comedic. He looked like a twisted piece of driftwood.

One look at Halo's face was pure disgust, and he shrugged, heading for the door.

Strange, but he was used to it.

He clutched his wound once again.

More guards waited. The way he'd struggled against Fuji, that brute from days ago, the one who'd carved this reminder into his chest, told him everything. He wasn't strong enough.

Fuji's attack power tripled based on the force he put into each blow. This didn't seem like a True Ability he'd face again anytime soon, but he needed to prepare. Learning more than Hex and figuring out how not to fall for her tricks would be a good start.

Soon enough, Leto returned holding a brownish booklet.

At a distance, he tossed it to Halo.

"This was written by a warlock. It contains everything there is to know about witches."

He said and began heading outside.

Halo examined the booklet carefully. It didn't hold much information, but he knew he couldn't rely on the Warlock to teach him how to kill a Witch.

The Witches and Warlocks were no different from them all. Their desires shaped into their True Abilities, and their Flaws and connection with the God of Lust determined their Titles.

Not all of them wielded seductive words, but some had bodies cunning enough to make anyone, male or female, go mad from looking at them alone. However, each of them was equally powerful.

Moreover, they never lost their youth. This went for all servants of Lust who'd shown enough devotion to earn the undying love of their god.

However, the Witches and Warlocks, being the favorites among all, became more beautiful the older they got.

Halo sighed and shook his head, clearing his thoughts.

He prayed Hex wasn't what he imagined. Whenever he pictured her, he saw only flesh. The Witches were probably all carved with exaggerated features. And the Warlocks? Those who reclined half-naked on couches with flowers between their teeth.

His body shivered. Too cringe.

Despite everything, the booklet revealed nothing useful, only how powerful they were and how everyone they seduced ended up dead in pools of blood.

Most victims died from the unspeakable things done to them or from what they were forced to do to themselves.

This made Halo worry for Iris briefly. It would be dangerous if she fell into Hex's hands. But he pushed the thought aside, these weren't people he wanted to get close to. Their relationship would be over once their Purpose was complete.

He just needed to prepare himself to do his best.
