"-Kanshido, of Creation. It is currently the Magical Beast that you possess right now, Liohime Kitagami."
The description of the Magical Beast made perfect sense.
Everything made so much sense.
Even so, Liohime could not hide the sheer shock that flashed across his face.
His lips trembled and he held onto his chest tightly, unable to utter a single word.
How could he, when he had been told that one of the two legendary Magical Beasts from the ever so dangerous Paradisus Legion was now residing with him?
"I was able to sense that Mother Kanshido was within you when you got near to me before the Piglet Squad introduced you," said Kaza, cutting off his thoughts. "Like I said, I have been heavily involved with its past life. You see, I have studied mana flow for many years while surviving with my group, and I am one of the only few people who know where Kanshido and Kinen are. From time to time, I would always cautiously watch over them when I visited the third layer for a period of time before I retreated to the second layer, due to how hellish that final layer is. Even so, as I slowly became acquainted with sensing mana flow in the air around me, I began to notice that the concentration of mana flow going into these two Magical Beasts sped up incredibly faster than all other beasts."
"T-That's why…"
"Yeah, as soon as you stepped into the base, most of the mana in the air sped away from our proximity and headed straight to you. I was able to sense it in full detail."
With that explanation, Liohime held his head and averted his eyes downward.
A mild headache was developing.
Shihon was Kanshido, a legendary-like Magical Beast who had pretty much spent most of her life unheated in this place.
"Even so," continued Kaza, "Kanshido's mana concentration seemed much thinner than usual, pretty much half as much as it had when she was still unhatched."
"Huh?"
"It's as if it's half of its true self, but that makes no sense at all. All Magical Beasts are Magical Beasts, right? But when I sense her, it's as if….I don't know, she's-"
"Half beast."
Finishing her sentence, Liohime stared at her with a perplexed look.
"Yeah, I guess."
Kanshido was taken from the third layer of the Paradisus Legion as the egg of a Full-Magical Beast.
Then, many years later, Liohime had accidentally taken Kanshido, also known as Shihon, while she was an egg of a Half-Magical Beast, or a Magical Beast Girl from the Magical Beast Cornerstone Corporation.
What the fuck?
Something was definitely wrong here.
How could Kanshido change from only a Magical Beast within an egg to Shihon as Magical Beast Girl within the egg years later?
Not to mention the fixated longing that Shihon has on him, as well as her speech about initially not knowing why she is so fixated on him.
Before Liohime could think more about this issue, though, Kaza had spoken up once again.
"W-Well, anyway, I'm glad that Mother Kanshido is still doing fine many years later. Oh, by the way, the reason I call her Mother is simply because it had lent its power to me in order to protect myself when a raging Magical Beast tried to attack me when I was checking up on it. I have no idea about its sexuality, after all. All Magical Beasts don't have one.
That statement reminded Liohime that he had to be more careful as to mentioning Shihon as a 'she'. So far, the people who heard him say this either knew about her true form or simply brushed it off as a made-up thing.
"So, I'm guessing that you're here to return Mother Kanshido, then? That's awesome, Liohime!"
".....Huh?"
Liohime stared at Kaza, and she cheerfully held her hand to her chest, sighing with relief.
"I don't tell anyone this," she continued, "but it's been so fucking hard trying to lead people, making them kill the Magical Beasts who were once held back by Mother Kanshido's power and their own instincts. After all, after Kanshido left, Kinen became more active while still being unhatched, influencing the beasts to become so hostile that many of our people died. Men, women, hell, even children born here perished, and it took a good while until we were able to come together and rise up to counterattack while still fearing for our lives. But now, with Kanshido back, then we could….we could…."
She wanted to finish her sentence, but was held back by silent sobs and hiccups, before she covered her mouth with her left hand while wiping her tears away with her right.
"I-I'm sorry, Liohime. It's just….it's just been really hard, fighting to survive here for nearly my entire life. I'm almost thirty now. Me and my people have remained here for so long that we don't even trust venturing to the surface to see the outside world, not when there's a chance that Kinen could also be taken away. I need to keep my people safe and ensure that I live a long life, and keeping both of these Magical Beasts here is the only…..hk."
She paused with an expressionless face, looking straight at Liohime as she inspected him with her eyes.
He wore an expression of fear.
His eyes wavered, and his bottom lip seemed a bit pulled in, while Kaza came to a horrifying hunch.
"Hey."
"Y-Yes….?"
"You're not….here to…do what I think….you might do…right?"
Goosebumps rose on Liohime's face and skin, and his voice slightly trembled when answering.
"If I told you 'no', would you believe me?"
Kaza's eyes twitched as her narrowed pupils pierced into Liohime's soul.
A devilish smile curled up from her lips.
"Yes. Yes, I guess so. Anyway, at least you have Mother Kanshido with you now. Anyway, you've probably been wondering how I thought you would return your Magical Beast to the third layer since you're contracted."
".....Wait-"
"Such a shame, isn't it? That this would be how it gets terminated."
As soon as she said that, Liohime could hear the faint sound of the floorboards creaking in the northeastern direction, and like a machine, Liohime slowly twisted his head to the entrance of the other room, shrouded in darkness.
--He could see a menacing figure in the dark, holding an axe raised with an intent to kill.
