For a split second, Jolene Aurora was delighted, but then she suddenly realized the situation that she was in.
Liohime Kitagami had arrived, yes, but he had no clue on who was the 'real' Jolene, and she had to make him believe that she was that person.
Immediately, her first thought was to attack the imposter, and she swung at her quickly with a closed fist, aiming to cause damage in order to reveal the glitching sensations that the fake was currently having.
However, with a swift reaction time, her clone had avoided the attack and motioned to her while showing off an anxious expression to Liohime while proclaiming:
"Shrimpdick! You gotta kill that thing, now! You can clearly see that it's trying to kill me off quickly!"
"Tch!"
Liohime clicked his tongue and aimed at Jolene, the real one, causing her heart to skip a beat as she froze in complete fear.
However, as he noticed her expression, he hesitated, resulting in her chance to speak.
"L-Lio, this….thing is trying to trick you with using your nickname! Don't believe a fucking word that it says and kill it immediately!!"
"B-But..!"
Liohime switched the aim, but his uncertainty remained as the same unsettling, troubled expression flashed towards the other identical woman's face.
Fuck!!
He was not prepared to encounter this horrifying scenario. With one wrong choice, he was only moments away from killing the real Jolene, and allowing the fake one to live.
How the hell would he be able to know which was which?
I can't fuck this up! Come on, Lio! Think of something!!
He began to ponder hard within milliseconds, trying to come up with an idea as he did his best to inspect the appearance, personality and behaviors of both.
Then, he came to a quick conclusion.
"One of you is my co-worker, and the other is a damn fake," he began, as his aim wavered from one to the other. "Alright then, you fucking imposter. Let's play a quick game. What specific events do you remember about our time together since we first met? State some fun memories that we had together, real quick."
Jolene paused as she was hit with that sudden question, but she began to think, and as soon as she had remembered one-
"Our first joint mission together, where we made a stupid ass plan to steal the rare artifact from that mansion and kill the family in one swift move by stealthily reworking the heating system in their house," was the reply from….
Not her. Not the real Jolene, but from the imposter.
That was when she remembered that her memories had also been accessed by the Magical Beast.
"Also, that time where we went to the cinema to watch Starship Ocean 2," the young woman continued excitedly. "I vividly remember you saying that it was pretty ass after we watched it together, but it was so bad that it was fun, right?"
"T-That's true!"
"Wait!!!"
Liohime pointed his gun at Jolene's head as he drew closer, with his finger hovering over the trigger, and her sudden natural response was her eyes suddenly beginning to water, which caught Liohime's eyes.
"Jolene hardly ever cries. There's been worse situations where she would get up without sobbing at a time like this," he spoke courageously. "I know, because she always hides her pain and sadness with a war cry and her sly smile. You're not her."
"No!! Wait, Lio!!!"
"You haven't managed to say anything that makes me convinced that you're innocent."
Her breaths quickened, and she bit her lip as she couldn't stop the tears from flowing.
Why can't I act like how she normally would? she thought. Why can't I be the person that he thinks that I am now?
Why? Why? Why?
Why!?!?
Liohime held his index finger on the trigger. All he needed to do was pull that finger back, but even so, his hesitation held him back from finishing the job.
"Shrimpdick, anytime now!!" yelled Jolene's clone, and Liohime replied, "Give me a fucking second, will ya! I'm still thinking!!"
"What the fuck is there to think about!!? I told you about-"
"Just! Hold! On!"
Liohime, with one of the biggest decisions of his life, had reverted back to his usual behavior of pondering deeply on the act of murder.
As usual, his feelings had been put to the test as his mind was completely mixed up with-
Jolene's body froze in place, and her eyes widened.
That's it.
That had to be the only option, right?
Then, her lips trembled with fright, jumbled with excitement, and the words that were caught in her throat were spat out just before Liohime had finally decided to commit to the act.
"Liohime Kitagami."
"-hk."
Hearing his full name, Liohime paused only for a split second, but that pause was enough time for her to say what she had to say in order to save her own life.
"I'm sorry about what I did…after the theatre that day."
"...What?"
"I rejected your feelings….which was fine….but," she continued, trying her best not to break down completely, "I made it so awkward between us afterwards. We were supposed to be friends at the very least…and I…I…"
Liohime swallowed hard. "What…are you saying?"
"Everything that I caused after that day destroyed our initial relationship. My mistakes caused us to drift apart from each other. I rejected you, just to later seduce you in order to….use your body to temporarily take the stress away! Ever since I met you, I just wanted someone to run to, something to enjoy, something to escape from my problems…..I…"
She wiped her tears that profusely leaked, and she shivered before the gun that was aimed at her.
"I hated myself for it, and I hated you for easily discarding my mistakes, saying that everything was fine!!!"
She screamed that out, and Liohime took a step back, while the other Jolene twitched with confusion.
"W-What the hell is this? S-Shrimpdick, just kill her already-"
"I'm sorry, Lio!!!" Jolened interjected, gripping her chest tightly while she screamed at him intensely, almost hyperventilating at the same time. "I'm sorry for everything! There, I said it!!! I said the fucking words that you hated to hear!! Are you mad at me now!!! What do you want to say to me!!? Tell me-"
"Just shut the fuck up already."
"-hk."
POW!
Liohime Kitagami had cut her off, before shooting-
--Straight at the head of Jolene's impostor, who stood closer to him, sending her body flying back from the recoil of the headshot.
"Don't fucking apologize for something that I told you not to bring up ever again," he continued with a piercing glare.
