The Magical Beast Girl Won't Leave Me Alone!

Chapter 56: Details of Paradisus

Only a few minutes had passed while announcements were ongoing, but everyone (bar Bica) were fully tuned in to everything that came out of Matsuo Yamamoto's mouth.

Now with the discussion concluding, he decided to end it off with a rather special statement.

"Alright everyone," he started, "I want you all to know that a special mission involving a few of our very own members will be initiated soon, in about one month."

Liohime paused and his eyes widened. He could tell where this was going, and so could Jolene, who had also been informed beforehand.

However, now was the time that they would learn about the specific details.

"In one month, our very own Shadow Thief and Silent Assassin will be headed to the Paradisus Legion to engage in a very special mission. However, I need you all to be informed of this just in case we need to request for your inclusion in the case of an emergency."

Harvey Hallvack scoffed in surprise and monitored the faces of the two figures that had been sitting next to him. Noticing that a huge change in emotion was not shown, he quickly concluded that there was a chance that they had been told before this meeting.

Still, for them to accept going there is…

Before he could finish his own thoughts, Ophiel, the dark-skinned Smuggling-For-Hire workmate, voiced them out loud out of his own troubled concern.

"Sir!"

"Yes?"

"T-That's….that's a very dangerous place! For them to accept going there is practically suicide!"

With a grimaced face, he glanced over at both Liohime and Jolene and continued, "The Paradisus Legion is a place where even the Magical Beast Raiders who go out to hunt and capture Magical Beast eggs fear going to! With all due respect, sir, how can you-"

"Calm down, will you?" Liohime interjected harshly, making Ophiel do a double take as they exchanged glares. "I know what I'm getting myself into-"

"Like hell! Why would you willingly want to go to a place where the survival rate of humans is fifty percent?"

"-hk."

"Terrifying rogue Magical Beasts roam the area, and we can't forget the rumors of powerful bands of the only surviving humans there who seek to kill any who enter that region. Do you also really wanna risk your life by heading into a place like the dungeon district, where it is reported that Beasts and humans alive turn insane and kill each other?"

The young man had been hit with statements that shook him to his core.

He had read about the Paradisus Legion before his books, and always feared its existence.

It was a place of almost no return, with three layers of immense depth into the earth, and every fact or fiction that had been derived from that place relayed fear and death.

Magical Beasts eggs formed from the mana in the atmosphere eventually hatched by themselves within six months once no contract with humans were formed, and they entered a habitat with hardly any human interaction, thus being conditioned to live a life where they would soon be hostile to any being that weren't them in order to survive.

With that information in mind, he was unsure of why he had even decided to agree to heading over to that hellish region at one point.

Ophiel faced Matuso once more.

"Why the hell are both of them going to that fucking place anyway?"

"Well, it's a mission requested by people who chose to register as anonymous. I've met them before though. They want us to capture and return with a special Magical Beast egg from the heart of the dungeon district."

Ophiel blinked as he froze, and Bica awoke from her sleep with a "eh?", astounded.

Harvey also stood and shook his head in disbelief, while Leah held a hand to her mouth in shock as she also decided to speak up.

"Oh my. That is quite a mission."

"It's a mission of straight bullshit and bloodshed, that's what it is!" Ophiel angrily snapped. "Trying to capture ONE egg from the deepest, scariest, most haunting part of that place!? Do they think that Lio and Jol are superhuman!? Don't make me fucking laugh."

Liohime swallowed the built-up saliva and his gaze faced downwards.

Why…? was the only question in his mind right now. Why would they want us to do this? For what purpose?

Unfortunately, when it came to completing missions for clients, the reason why it had to be done was never a necessity. If Jolene had to kill someone and she accepted, she did it without learning why. It could have been a truly detestable person or the nicest saint on earth, but it would not matter once she accepted.

Finally, Jolene, who had been silent for a while, raised her hand, and Matsuo motioned for her to speak.

"How do they even know that the so-called 'special egg' is there?"

"Good question. Do you know the tale of the two legendary Magical Beasts that guard the Paradisus Legion from within?"

"What, the Tale of the Terrifying Two? Don't tell me that these fucking guys are asking us to search for something based on a bedtime story!?"

Matsuo nervously chuckled and scratched his head, but he knew that the request was certainly outrageous.

"It's definitely skeptical, but there has been scientific evidence that the behavioral patterns of some of the rogue Magical Beasts in the Paradisus Legion seem to follow commands and occasionally travel to the deepest part of the region. It's not concrete evidence, but…."

His voice trailed off and he gazed upwards while he continued, "Anyway, although there is not much financial compensation in the case of not finding the egg, which I think is fucking insane, there is a one billion reward pot that will be distributed towards everyone if they do capture the egg and return safely. And of course, Shinigami Soldiers from various surrounding regions will be taking part to help in this mission.

Everyone who listened gasped and mumbled amongst themselves.

One billion, with loads of aid from distant workmates, all united for one goal.

It was fucking crazy, to say the least, but-

"Fuck it. That money is ours, right, Lio!?"

Jolene grinned from ear to ear, poised for the grueling mission that she remained ready for.

She remained firm in her stance to do her best, and Liohime clenched his fist as he courageously nodded affirmatively.

"Yeah. Let's do it."

And instantly, everyone else beside them also volunteered to help in the Paradisus Legion mission, much to the surprise of their chief.

"Well, I really don't want a reality where I lose all of you guys…but alright."

--In just one month, the Shinigami Soldiers of Polar Town would undergo the biggest mission of their lives.
