Nighttime arrived, and Liohime Kitagami remained around the middle section of the Paradisus Legion Tower, laying down on the smooth stone floor while propping his head against a huge slab of debris.
He gazed upwards, staring at the starry sky from the large gaping hole in the ceiling, and the cold air gently brushed against his face as he basked in the moonlight.
What a day, he thought, and smiled weakly.
He had experienced the highest levels of stress that he had not experienced before.
His physicality, teamwork and trust in his Magical Beast Girl had all come under test, and he had just barely made it out alive thanks to Shihon who had gone ahead of him in an attempt to take out all of the watchtower guards with a clean sweep.
He had no idea what the following day would bring, but he had a good feeling that there would be even more dangerous scenarios that would appear, and just the thought of this caused anxiety within his heart.
Even so, he had to remember Shihon's words to him before he had taken off to the Paradisus Legion:
((
You're only human after all, Master, so you will still feel hopeless from time to time. Still, try your best to simply throw away your fears just this once. Take some rest."
))
Just for tonight, I must try to throw away my fears, just this once, he assured himself, and he slowly closed his eyes after inhaling and exhaling deeply.
Using his senses to fully appreciate the silence and the peaceful scenery that he was currently in, he said, "This is nice."
"Yeah, yeah it is."
"BWOAHHHH!?"
And he immediately sat up with a fearful expression as he heard a voice whisper in his ears, but the familiarity of that voice quickly calmed him down as he turned his head to face the smug face of the green- haired, dark-skinned beauty.
"I…forgot that I summoned you out of my mindspace so that you could sleep next to me. You're too damn quiet."
"Well, can you blame me, Master? I was simply enjoying the atmosphere like you."
"R-Right, that makes sense. My bad."
"Also, I was waiting until you fell asleep silently so that I could quietly gaze at your cute, slumbering face until sunrise."
".....I'm sorry, did you just say something?" Liohime genuinely asked, as his mind simply could not comprehend what he had just heard.
"It's nothing, don't worry about it!" Shihon cheerfully replied, before she gently placed her head on his beating chest.
A moment of silence crept in for a few seconds, and then Shihon spoke up once again.
"Master."
"Hm?"
"There's something really important that I must ask."
"O-Oh? Sure, go ahead…"
They exchanged glances, while Liohime furrowed his brows, expecting something serious.
"This would be such an underrated spot for a quickie, don't you think?"
Liohime's eyes twitched, and then he palmed his face.
"And here I thought that it was actually a serious question."
"It is a serious question!"
"Geez, you and your sex jokes…you never change in some aspects do you? Then again, I'm kind glad that you don't," he mentioned while chuckling.
Shihon paused as her eyes widened, and then she pursed her lips before speaking up in a more serious tone.
"I'm truly sorry Master, for what I did today. I shouldn't have left you on your own like that without heeding instructions first."
"Like I told you, I forgive you. That's all water under the bridge. Just ensure that it does not happen again, alright? I really can't have peace of mind when you're out there taking huge risks, especially with you also showing off your human form just because it's more comfortable and enjoyable for you to fight in."
"A-Alright."
Although Liohime reminded her that he had forgiven her, he still had to correct her with stern counsel. Their relationship was never at a point where he babied her.
"I was extremely worried for you back there, you know," he continued. "If I had been only a few minutes late, I probably could have lost you. Your heart was not beating, and I had taken a risk to jumpstart your heart with electrocution, not knowing if it would even work. Honestly, I would have had no clue if I could have kept going on this mission if I had lost you right then and there. You're really important to me, and not just as part of my arsenal, but as someone that I truly care about."
Shihon's tears began to form, but she blinked rapidly while keeping her head upwards so that they would not trickle down.
She gazed at the starry night sky.
My Master truly cares about me and trusted me….and I let him down, causing him a lot of stress.
No matter what, she had to ensure that she did not let him down any more.
"Okay then, Master," she replied enthusiastically. "I'll follow your lead, so please guide me."
"Yeah, sure thing."
Liohime smiled and stroked her soft hair as she closed her eyes and grinned, enjoying the petting that she was now given. Then, as she opened her eyes once more, she stared at the glamorous moon that remained in the middle of the sky, and basked in the luminous moonlight that descended from the gaping hole in the ceiling.
"The moon looks really, really beautiful tonight, Master."
"It always looks better than usual when you watch it with someone that you love."
"...Hey, since when were you able to make such smooth lines like that? That made my heart flutter a little bit."
"Wait, you actually liked that? I was being sincere, though…"
"Well, sincere or not…no, actually, I'd rather it be sincere obviously, but anyway…I loved it."
She flipped her body around and kept her body on top of Liohime while gently embracing him.
"I love you, Master."
"Yeah, I know."
"Hey, you're supposed to say-"
"I was going to say it, but you didn't let me finish!"
Shihon pouted as she raised her head, impatiently waiting for a response, and that response soon came from the lips of the reddened young man's face.
"I…I love you too."
"Hehe, I love it when you're shy."
"Ugh, at least let me sleep my embarrassment away."
"Okay, okay. Goodnight."
"....Goodnight."
The first complete day in the Paradisus Legion mission had now pretty much come to a close, but it only marked the beginning of Liohime and Shihon's misadventures.
