Infinite Body Prince

Chapter 62: out of time

He didn't summon a long table or majestic hall this time.

Intentionally, he let his panic and stress spread into the space. Instantly, the calm fog beneath him began moving.

Of course, he could not force a state of great distress, therefore, the fog didn't form a chaotic vortex like it had the first time he entered that space.

It's fine, he thought, all I needed was to stimulate it.

Now that he was here, however, he could not see what was happening to his vessels in the mystical artifact.

Of course, he still had Baruch, who he focused his perception on the pale skinned woman with voluminous black hair.

I imagine she must have used some sorcery that would alert her of any changes.

When she moved, he would too.

On the dais, the new Baron was giving a speech. His voice was deep and loud, addressing the mages.

In that secret chamber, the metal box would become faint, almost as if it was about to disappear, but would then consume the essence from the pile of essence fragments beneath it and its state would stabilize.

The consumed essence fragments would disappear into thin air.

As Baruch observed the dais, his eyes focused on the sorcerer lady's face, he smiled.

There was a change in her face that showed confusion, and she stood up without interrupting the new Baron's speech, walking off the dais.

Seeing this, Hadrian didn't immediately leave that space, he stimulated the spinning fog even more.

Through Baruch, he kept his eyes on the lady's figure until she disappeared into the fortress.

It was all he could do for now. It was a wide open field from where the assembly was to the fortress, therefore, he could not exactly follow her discretely.

Maybe, I should have hid in the castle.

Baruch let out a sigh.

Forget it. It can't be helped now.

The sorcerer lady walked in the fortress with a worried look on her face, her hair bobbing up and down, as she zigzagged through hallways and flights of stairs.

The host guards didn't stop her, and most didn't even turn an eye to her.

Walking down a dimly lit flight of stairs, her feet tapping the concrete steps and clothes shuffling were the only sounds being made.

The worried look on her face turned to one of deep concern.

Even where she was, she could already feel the disorientating effect of the metal box, but weak.

To leak this far….

Her steps became hurried.

The closer she got, the stronger it became, but she could still manage it.

She came to a stop in front of a thick heavy door, the air cold down here. On her skin, she could feel a slight pulsating force.

Her thin hand rose and slid open a small slide such that she could see inside.

Her eyes widened and jaw tightened. Directly in her view, as they had set it, was the metal box.

However, it was faint like a disappearing illusion, and the pile of essence fragments they had left the box on top of, was now only a handful of fragments.

Before this, the rank five mystical artifact of the space path had been able to seal all sorts of mages, magical beasts and even other higher ranked mystical artifacts for long stretches of time.

After her, Bagdona and Egoz, who was currently giving the speech, had killed the old Baron who'd planned to defy the will of the Princeps, she'd gotten word of a fight in a metal workshop involving strange magic and the magloire mob.

Since it involved Bagdona, who'd been placed in Gritjor to undermine the authority of the Baron when time came, it was easy for her, who'd placed great importance on the matter following her suspicions, to learn what she could.

Working with the old sorcerer, they set up the plan to capture "him"

When the time came, most of their preparations were not even necessary, and she realized that she had overestimated how powerful the authority wielder was at the moment.

At that point, she could not resist herself and decided to act, trapping him in the mystical box.

Everything was fine at first, and she would have left Gritjor until the mystical box started acting strange.

Lower ranked mystical artifacts could indeed be treated as just objects. However, she knew that the more powerful a mystical artifact was, the more it would start displaying basic levels of enacting its own will.

This involved self preservation. Through sorcery, the usual negative effects of the mystical box had been reduced such that she could wield it.

After long stretches of usage it needed to be kept alone in a calm and dark space for a few hours, otherwise, you would find yourself teleported to a random location, sealed inside it or experiencing disorientation that could last for days.

Though she thought she had overestimated the current strength of the authority wielder, she learned the length of time "he" would be sealed up inside would be far shorter than anything else she had ever sealed inside the box.

Hence, they put the box on top of a pile of all of the old Baron's essence fragments, and instead of her taking it, she sent out word for it to be came for.

Standing in front of the door, her head buzzed and she blinked multiple times, the space in front of her slightly distorting in her vision.

She pressed her eyelids tightly shut and let out a sigh.

Her lips parted and she began muttering a strange nonsensical language. The thick door groaned as the metal parts inside clanked open.

The box might not have been able to contain him, but she'd confirmed that his other vessels had been dealt with, and the ones in the box were evidently weaker than her.

Instead of letting the box teleport to a random location with them, for now, she might as well deal with him herself. This was the simplest solution that she had talked to Egoz about.

Sliding the door open, she took hurried steps to the not so far metal box. But in the next moment, she collided with the wall to her left instead.

She cursed, even though she had put a spell on herself, it still affected her like that.

Turning to the box once more, her heart tightened in her chest. The last of the essence fragments were being consumed.

With much haste, she took out a small blade, and after saying something to it she threw it at the box.

However, it passed through the now illusory box that was flickering, and in the next moment wind battered her entire body as it shrieked loudly past her. She found herself falling from the sky.
