"It wasn't a baby the wife gave birth to. It was a monster!" Elina said, her voice echoing heavy with pressure as she turned a sharp gaze at Nich.
After her last statement, no one spoke; no one asked another question. They just stood there, staring at each other, until Elina began moving toward where they had parked the car.
…
Outside the barracks wall, countless people holding their bags walked, hurling insults at the soldiers keeping watch and checking those wanting to enter the city.
No matter how much the soldiers tried comforting them to stop, the insults went on and on to the extent of insulting the government of Westeros at large.
At the junction leading to the alley, countless people stood there, shouting and raising their arms at the soldiers trying to bring peace.
Under the late afternoon sun, Gray looked at the crowded people, his face tightening as he spotted a few of the men holding black suitcases walking at the back of the crowd. He watched them pushing the kids among the crowd forward but wasn't ready to disgrace himself by touching any child.
Kai, who stood at the side of the truck staring at both the soldiers and the citizens, became unmovable as he saw the smile on the men holding black suitcases.
Though he was a kid himself, he somehow knew that wasn't a peaceful smile. It was as if he were a target the men wanted, but weren't ready to act rashly.
That night, as they managed to calm the citizens, Kai walked back to his room after being dropped by Gray.
He stood at the window staring at the sky like he often did, enjoying the night sky view. He enjoyed every movement of the air, the people walking by, and the harmonious sound of the birds at the canopy of the tree just behind the window.
'How I wish I'm old enough to enjoy the life others are,' he thought, watching how two people—a young man and a lady—walked, hugged themselves, and kissed before departing into two different buildings.
The moment he saw the lady close the door behind her, he noticed the guy to whom he, Kai, thought had entered the building holding and kissing another girl just at the edge of the door.
"Ahh! Isn't that the same guy who just kissed a lady not long ago?" Kai said, feeling bad for the first lady.
Though he loved standing at the window, the view he saw made him move from the window and onto his bed.
Even at the side of his bed, his mind couldn't detach itself from the kissing scene he saw.
Meanwhile, outside his door, countless young men and ladies stood at the corners of the hallway, some hugging, some smooching, and the rest kissing each other madly as if there was a love feast ongoing.
…
At the far distance from the building Kai was in and to the abandoned building at the gate of the barracks, figures moved hastily at the top floor, slamming their limbs on the walls.
Crashing sounds echoed whenever the limbs came in contact with the walls, letting heavy spiderwebbed lines dress the area at which the fist touched.
Among the five figures standing in the building, one was restless while the remaining four moved, trying to console him.
"Who the fuck does he think he is?!" he said, pushing them back as if they were the soldier that slapped him.
Yet one of the four didn't move. He simply pushed the one behaving hastily forward to the tinted window and pointed toward the soldiers standing lazily at the gate.
"Don't waste your energy cursing him, he's as weak as those standing there. Their life is numbered, so you need not worry," he said in a voice that sent the angry one smiling.
After three minutes of staring at the soldiers, they moved back, opening their suitcases and arranging the broken metals in it into a long shimmering sword that glowed in the room as the moon's rays passing through the broken part of the window spun on them.
…
At the hallway leading to the door with Gray's name inscribed on it, two men walked, slamming their boots on the ground with great pressure that made their steps echo in a hammering sound.
"What really caused the protest?" Gray asked, his chest heaving as he slowed his steps and turned toward the man calmly following him.
"Don't really know," Wang said, placing a hand on Gray's shoulder as he neared him.
They walked close to each other, stopped when they reached Gray's door, then entered.
For five minutes the room kept its quietness, but on the sixth minute Wang stood up, walked to the window, and placed his hand on the stool, then sighed.
"Has the boy regained his memories?" he said, turning from the view outside and staring deep in Gray's direction.
Gray, who had his head placed on the table, raised it and stared at Wang, then inhaled heavily.
"Yes… but he still doesn't remember any of the things he did during all his four years here."
A few seconds after Gray spoke, the sky rumbled heavily, so heavy that all the buildings at the barracks shook.
From the sky, drops of rain started falling, landing on the ground and on the leaves, wetting them completely.
Wang inhaled the cold air now flowing in the room, closed his eyes, and brushed his hands across his face, then grinned.
"We need to force him to remember!" he said, opening his eyes through the slight space between his fingers and staring at Gray.
At that moment, the thunderous sound increased, followed by lightning that tore the night sky into two and gave it a slight daylight view.
Behind Kai's window, water dripping sounds echoed, followed by freezing cold wind that moved the white curtains up and down and wet them slightly.
Kai, who was deep in his sleep, shook his head as if something was pulling him from his sleep. And in his dream, he saw himself standing at a vast land filled with dried human bones.
Above the vast land were countless black birds crying and floating in circles. And at the middle of the land, Kai saw the black bird that had been leading him in his recent dreams opening its wings.
From the vast distance he felt as if the bird was staring at him. Though he wasn't seeing the bird's eyes, he felt the bird's gaze crushing him and pulling him forward.
Every step he took, his boots crunched the broken bones, turning them into powder. A few moments after closing in on the bird, countless visions surged in his eyes.
And in the vision, he saw himself, Gray, Wang, Jinx, Oin, Jane, Ryo, and three ladies he knew nothing of fighting hastily against a group of monsters and a group of men in black uniforms merged as one.
And among the group coming after them, Kai saw a man with blue glowing eyes and wings soaring high in the sky and coming to him at great speed.
Chills ran down his spine, both in the dream and in his real body. His two dual eyes started glowing shortly after the clash he was seeing in the vision began.
At that moment, everything moving around him in real life stopped, pausing and remaining still as if he was now in control of time.
