THE KING OF STARS

Chapter 31: WHEN THE STARS TREMBLED AGAIN

The night didn't feel like night anymore. The sky wasn't just dark; it felt thin, like a sheet someone stretched too much and now threads were showing through. Yun kept staring upward, even when his neck started hurting, because something in him wouldn't let him stop. Something tugged at his blood again, slow at first, then faster like it was trying to leap out of his veins.

He swallowed hard. "It's happening again… but worse."

Shen Yu looked at him with that worried-but-trying-to-hide-it look he always wore now. "Sit down, Yun. Your energy's unstable. You're shaking like someone plugged you into a thundercloud."

"I'm fine," Yun lied, even though his hands were trembling bad enough that he had to clench them to stop. "It's just… calling."

"Nothing should be calling you," Shen Yu muttered, but even he looked back at the sky with a deep frown. "Unless…"

Yun didn't hear the rest, because suddenly the air cracked—not loud, not like thunder, but like a tear being ripped in silk far, far above. For an instant, Yun swore he saw something huge pushing against the sky from the other side. A silhouette shaped like claws and light, fighting something equally massive.

His breath caught. His heart pounded too fast.

"H-hey," he whispered shakily, pointing upward, "Shen Yu… do you see that?"

"I do," Shen Yu answered quietly. "And I really wish I didn't."

The sky flickered, showing flashes like pieces of a broken window:

a colossal being shrouded in gold fire swinging a blade made of galaxies

another creature, all shadow and fangs, ripping through chunks of starlight

explosions that looked like entire constellations collapsing

swirling storms of nebula-colors twisting like angry dragons

It all lasted only a few breaths, but Yun saw enough. Enough to know this wasn't a dream or illusion.

This was war. A cosmic war.

And for some reason… he felt connected to it.

His chest burned. Hard. Like something inside him was waking up too fast. His vision blurred with silver. His breath came short. He gasped, gripping his shirt. "It's too hot—why is it so hot—Shen Yu!"

Shen Yu grabbed him by the shoulders. "You're resonating with the cosmic rift! Focus on me, Yun—don't let it pull you!"

"I—I can't—something's dragging me—"

Yun stumbled, collapsing to his knees. The ground shook under him, dust rising around his legs. His blood felt like it was boiling and freezing at the same time.

Then suddenly...A Voice. Not heard with ears, but inside him.

"Child of Starlight… you finally stir."

Yun jerked. "Who—who are you? Stop talking in my head!"

But the voice kept going, deeper, older, like it came from the beginning of everything.

"Awaken more… there is no more time to hide…"

"No!" Yun shouted out loud, pressing his hands to his ears even though that wasn't where the voice was. "Stop! I'm not ready for anything, I don't even know what's happening!"

Shen Yu knelt next to him, trying to steady him while the ground vibrated. "Fight it! Don't let the link form!"

But Yun couldn't. Or maybe he didn't want to. Because even though it was terrifying, a part of him wanted, needed—cc ddddto know.

"Just… let me hear," Yun whispered, trembling. "Just a little."

Shen Yu's eyes widened. "Yun...NO!"

But Yun was already somewhere else.

Or seeing somewhere else.

In the far reaches of the universe, amidst black holes swirling like hungry storms, Yun saw two figures—his parents—fighting side by side against a monstrous titan made of darkness.

His father's voice echoed, raw and furious:

"Keep him safe! Whatever it takes!"

His mother's eyes burned with tears and starlight:

"We can't hold forever, Lianxing! The breach is widening"

The giant creature roared, its voice shaking galaxies apart.

Yun saw his mother struck by a wave of corrosive shadow, her arm turning to cosmic dust before she forced it to regrow with pure will. He saw his father cut through an entire planet to block a blow aimed at her.

They weren't untouchable gods.

They were fighting for their lives.

Bleeding. Breaking. Protecting him.

Yun's chest clenched so hard he thought his heart might explode.

"Mother… Father…"

The words left him before he realized he said them.

Both parents suddenly turned—as if hearing him from across the stars.

His mother whispered, voice trembling, "Yun…?"

His father looked horrified. "No—don't respond! He's not ready—"

The vision shattered violently, like a hammer smashing glass.

Back in the Village

Yun fell flat on the dirt, gasping hard, sweat dripping down his forehead like rain.

His whole body glowed silver for a moment—then dimmed again.

Shen Yu shook him gently. "Yun! Yun! Can you hear me?"

Yun blinked slowly, breathing rough. "Th-they're real…"

"Who?"

"My… parents." His voice cracked. "And… they need help."

Shen Yu froze. Completely froze. He didn't even blink for a second.

Then very softly, very seriously, he said:

"Yun… whatever you saw… it means the universe just got a lot more complicated."

Yun swallowed.

And for the first time…

He wasn't afraid.

He was angry. He was determined. He was awake.

"I'm going to get stronger," Yun said, pushing himself upright even though his body shook. "No matter what. I'm done waiting around."

He looked at the sky again, fists tight.

"Just wait, Mother. Father. I'll come to you."
