It had been two days since Council Leader Vorik warned the fleet and prepared the domes for an invasion. Every day, he went in his shuttle to scout, looking to see if he could locate more scout ships. There was still only one. At least only one that he could find.
He had his soldiers set up a training ground, sending everyone to learn self-defense. He even had one of his commanding squad leaders train the pregnant females. They had to be careful, but they still needed to learn to defend themselves. Everyone was told to carry a blaster with them. Even when they were within their homes, they needed to keep one close by in case of an attack by the Kreq.
There had been no indication that the Kreq knew that the Ramesians knew that they were there. This was a good thing. They could continue to train and prepare themselves. The longer they had time to prepare, the better. It also gave them time to devise a plan when going up against them when they finally attack.
Traps were placed around all three domes, as well as those domes under construction. If a scouting party showed up and managed to pass the trap, they would be trapped inside a plasma dome, unable to get out or touch the sides. It was the same trap they used on Travis Nicols.
They hoped to deal with the situation before those trapped figured out that they could tunnel underneath like Jada Nelson had done to help her group escape Travis.
Council Leader Vorik walked across the quad, heading toward his shuttle. "I need a search team at my shuttle, now!" he ordered through his comm link.
"Yes, Sir," came the reply.
When he reached his shuttle, Merrick and Rask had the shuttle mid-way through the flight sequence. The team he had called for had already arrived and was waiting for orders.
"I need your team to split into two groups. Each group is in a separate shuttle. Follow my lead. We're going to see about that scout," Vorik ordered. He wanted to get this over with. He didn't know how long the scout ship was planning on staying before the commander would send more. He needed to deal with them quickly and discreetly.
The squad leader immediately divided his group, sending each one to a different shuttle. The squad leader followed Council Leader Vorik into his shuttle.
As the dome opened, all three shuttles lifted off and flew slowly, scanning the area. They scanned around all the domes, including the one that was still under construction. They only started the construction a couple of days ago. Finding the scout ship and the need to prepare for battle put a halt to its construction.
After scanning the area, they determined that there was still only a single shuttle.
"Jam their communication," Vorik ordered as they made another pass over the shuttle.
Rask flipped several switches before pressing the flat red button to his left. The ship sent a low-frequency ion array across the cloaked shuttle. The cloak immediately fell, revealing the small scout shuttle. It sat nestled inside the ravine, protected by areas of dirt, similar to small cliffs that hid the shuttle on at least two sides.
Rask looked at a small screen in front of him. "The cloaking shield is down, and so is their defensive shield and communications," he reported.
Council Leader Vorik got up and pulled multiple disks out of a large bag he was carrying. Handing a small disk to each of them, he kept one for himself, affixing it to his left palm. "It goes on the opposite hand you use your blaster with," he explained, then moved back from the team, putting his hand palm out. The disk shot a plasma shield out that protected the body from blasts from the blasters. There was a cutout on one side where they could shoot their own blasters without hitting their own body shield. "The Engineer came up with these. They have been tested and programmed into the replicators. The replicated versions have also been tested. They work to keep you safe. This is not a kill mission. This is a capture mission," Council Leader Vorik stated, eyeing the team. "I need all of you to make sure you can activate the blast shield before we go out. If they shoot at us and you can't activate it, it will be too late."
The entire team tried out their personal blast shield and then prepared themselves to capture the scout team. Each man in Vorik's team had multiple sets of plasma cuffs ready to bind the scout team inside the scout ship. They knew there would be at least six scouts inside, but it could be as many as twelve.
Before they headed out, Vorik scanned his men. "Capturing the scout team is going to start the Kreq invasion. The fleet is already prepared. They found three disks cloaked behind the moon. They have their orders when the disks attack. In capturing the Kreq scout team, their leader will most likely attack. The Domes are to go into lockdown with the blast domes at full capacity to protect the people inside. We have to do this quickly, or we won't have time to enter the domes ourselves. Does everyone understand?" he asked.
The squad team leader nodded, "Yes, sir. If we take our time, we are as good as dead. We have to retrieve quickly and get back to the dome before we are locked out," he responded, repeating his orders to confirm that he understood them.
Vorik nodded, acknowledging the team leader before turning to the flight teams. "All pilots and copilots stay in the shuttles and keep them ready to return to the dome."
Merrick and Rask nodded in agreement, and so did the other two flight teams.
Vorik sighed, then nodded, "Then let's go catch some Kreq scouts," he ordered. His tone was similar to Niki and Aleigha's.
Council Leader Vorik and his team headed toward the small scout shuttle. As soon as they were close enough, they activated their personal blast shields, blasters held high, ready to fight. They knew the Kreq scouts would fire their own weapons the moment they were seen.
The door to the shuttle remained closed. It was clear the team knew they were surrounded. There was going to be a fight. Of course, Vorik knew that when he decided to get this over with, taking the prep time away from the Kreq leader.
The squad leader shot his blaster at the small numeric pad on the side of the door. The door of the shuttle flew open, and shots were fired from inside the shuttle.
The blasts from the scout team's blasters hit the shield, not affecting it. The power remained at full strength. The squad leader smiled, seeing that the Kreq's blasters weren't draining the power of the blast shields. Holding his shield in front of him, he buffaloed his way forward and onto the ship. His team followed behind him, doing the same.
Seeing that the Ramesians were protected, their blasters doing nothing to the plasma shields they used, they abandoned them and tried to fight hand-to-hand. Vorik shot his blaster, one by one, taking the scout team down as the squad leader and his team fought. Vorik had thought ahead and had set his blaster to immobilize. All the ones he had hit were out cold, unconscious.
Because of the possibility of hidden communication units or tracking systems, the entire scout team was stripped of their clothing and dragged naked into the shuttle as the pilot and copilots of the shuttle prepared to lift off and head back to the dome. They weren't going to take chances. They didn't want anything taken into the dome that could help the Kreq leader.
During the short flight, Vorik had called the cells to prepare for the eight Kreq to have a cell.
Clothing was prepared for them, as well as a shiny new set of shackles. They would have to be taken to the cells naked. It was something that couldn't be helped.
A team of medics waited at the landing platform, ready to scan the Kreq before the squad leader and his team took them all to the cells.
Council Leader Vorik got on his comm unit. "Lock down all domes. Prepare for battle," he ordered. "Lock down all the domes and prepare for battle!" he repeated.
A loud buzzing was heard, echoing through the domes as the dome's protective shield added a new layer. One that could withstand any blasts that they knew of. Lights flared in warning all along the perimeter of the domes, warning not to touch or go near the plasma shield. Alarms blared, warning those in their homes to prepare themselves.
Everyone adorned themselves with battle armor. The hidden tunnel city closed, locking anyone out who wanted to get in, as well as those inside who wanted out.
All three domes were ready. All they had to do was wait.
