It had been two weeks since the death of Commander Grev and the end of the war with the Kreq people.
Those aboard the Kreq disks were working with Council Leader Vorik to get their people settled and for them to make plans for their futures.
Many of the people on the disks had moved to the surface to start a new life. They were given food replicators so they no longer had to eat the slop they were served in the dining hall on their disks.
There wasn't even one Kreq that was not happy about it. They were all happy about that. None of them wanted to eat slop in the first place.
When they had first received their replicators, they were surprised by all the choices being offered, trying everything they could. Some things they liked, others they didn't. Even the worst item they tasted was far better than the slop they were fed while Commander Grev was in leadership.
The Kreq people were much happier now, bonding fully with their families and meeting those on the other disks. Some even found their mates while meeting those on the different disks. Grev had made sure to separate many of the people to prevent them from finding their mates, not wanting the controlling serum to be dissipated.
As for Council Leader Vorik and those who stayed close to him, they were now sitting in the tavern, spending time with each other, trying to relieve some of the stress that Commander Grev had forced upon them. They were happy that the incident was over and hoped that they could find a bit of peace before anything else happened.
Jada sat on Orik's lap in the tavern. He ordered a strong beverage. When he went to order one for Jada, she stopped him. "Not for me. I want the bubbly drink," she told the server, smiling widely.
Jada loved the strong beverage, so it threw Orik off. Everyone was looking at her, suspiciously. There was only one reason she would not order the strong beverage because of how much she liked it.
Jada, seeing the looks they were giving her, rolled her eyes. "I can't drink that stuff right now," she told them, then turned to Orik. "I don't think it's good for our baby," she said, smiling brightly.
Orik's eyes shot up, then pulled her close. His dark eyes sparkled with complete joy. She was pregnant with his child. He didn't expect that it would ever happen. Their race took a while unless they were mated. He had always thought he had to wait. Then he found out that because of the zombie toxin, she hadn't been able to get pregnant. He had forgotten that the zombie toxin was the reason she hadn't gotten pregnant already. It was a happy surprise that she was carrying a child. He pulled her even closer, nuzzling her neck. She giggled in response.
Council Leader Vorik sat with Alice. The twins were beside her in carriers. Both babies were sleeping soundly, oblivious to the world around them. Alice wasn't drinking either; She was still breastfeeding her infant twins. Merrick and Rask were there with the sisters, Niki and Aleigha. They had finally given birth to their own babies. Both girls happily drank their strong beverage. Their babies were in carriers beside them, as well. The two infants were also asleep, dreaming peacefully.
Mia was sitting on Nevle's lap, and Krem was beside her. It made her feel more at ease. Even Renn and Renk were there. They had finally come to terms with their own predicament and were now happy about it. They were all drinking a strong beverage.
Mia was sucking the foam off the top of her cup. With foam still on her lips, she licked it off, then giggled. "This is just beer," she told them. "Isn't calling it beer easier than calling it a strong beverage? Easier to order, too," she told them, then continued to suck the foam from the top of her beverage.
Council Leader Vorik sighed, looking around at his friends. Some were Kreq, some human, and others Ramesian. He smiled. "Perhaps we can have some peace for a while before we have to deal with more chaos," he told them, drinking his own strong beverage.
Aleigha growled at him. "Don't jinx it!"
Mia looked up and scanned the group. "I doubt we'll get that. With all the zombies cured, there's going to be some that want revenge or something like that. I think we're going to be in for a fight," she said, then continued to suck the foam off of her drink, ignoring everyone again.
Mia would bring ominous information and then go back to the girl who ignored everything around her, trying to cope with what had happened to her. This was one of those times.
Niki downed her drink. "I sure hope not. I can't fight like I used to. Babies do that. They get in the way of fighting sometimes. You can't just leave them alone and run off to a fight. Someone always has to watch them." She was saying. "If there's an emergency, you have to go find a babysitter first before you can respond. That part kind of sucks."
Rask pulled her close. "Good, because I don't want to have to worry about you all the time," he told her, kissing her temple, making Niki giggle.
Aleigha laughed. "We can fight; we just have to choose our battles," she told her sister, downing her own glass. "You guys really should start serving pitchers of beer instead of just glasses." She set her empty glass down. "I agree with Mia. This is beer, and it's easier to call it what it is."
Mia giggled, looking up at Aleigha, then went back to sipping her beer. It was clear that even though it always looked like Mia ignored everyone, she was always listening. She seemed to miss nothing.
The server came up to see if they needed anything else. Vorik smiled. "A jug of strong beverage, please."
The server walked away, returning moments later with a pitcher. Aleigha looked at Vorik, her brow raised. "Why the fuck didn't you order this before. This is a pitcher of beer." She suddenly smiled, grabbing the pitcher and filling her glass before anyone else could take it first.
Vorik shook his head, smiling. "We call it different things. If I had known, I would have ordered it," he said, chuckling softly.
Niki smiled. "All we need now is pizza." She then looked at her sister. "Remember that vegan pizza we used to order at that one pizza place? It was the only place we could get vegan pizza. It was so good. I miss that place."
Alice smiled. "I had pizza programmed in the replicators. We can have it if we want it. It's mainly pepperoni and cheese, but since it's replicated, it's not actually meat and cheese. It's a replicated version."
"Oh, awesome!" Niki laughed, standing up and waving her hand widely to get the attention of the server.
Everyone at the table laughed at her. They were also curious about what would happen when she ordered a pizza. Not many of the Ramesians, or even Kreq, knew about pizza. It was one of the best foods you could get to go with your beer.
The server came over. Niki ordered a large pizza. The server looked at her funny, not knowing what she was ordering. She had never heard of it and didn't know what it was.
Alice spoke up. "It's in the replicator. It's pepperoni and cheese pizza," she told the server, smiling.
The server turned and walked away, looking perplexed. She had no idea what was going to come out of the replicator.
Several minutes later, the server brought the pizza. It was steaming hot, the smell of fresh pizza floating around in the tavern. Many of the others at the surrounding tables watched as the server passed them, looking at the pizza that she was carrying. After she delivered their pizza, the others in the tavern asked what they had ordered, then ordered the same, as it smelled so good. They wanted to try it too.
It wasn't long before everyone in the tavern had a pizza in front of them. The smell of pizza was thick in the air. Soft sounds of clanging glasses and muffled speech could be heard all around the small tavern. The pizza changed the entire atmosphere around them.
As they ate their pizza and drank their beer, the tavern's door slid open. Seeran rushed in. His face was nearly in a panic. He stopped at their table and looked directly at Council Leader Vorik.
"Sir," he told Vorik after giving the gesture of respect. "There's a group outside the dome. They're heavily armed and shooting at the shields.
"You jinxed it!" Aleigha complained.
"So much for a rest from chaos," Vorik grumbled, downing his drink, preparing to see what was going on at the gate.
