Seeran rushed Hope to the clinic. He could feel her growing weaker. Those around him moved out of his way, letting him get his mate into the clinic to be helped. His own face was pale as he tried not to panic.
Entering the clinic, the medic looked up, seeing the blood on Hope, and rushed over. "Set her on the table," he ordered.
Seeran did as he was told as the medic quickly scanned her and started working on treating her to keep her alive. She was weak before; now she was even weaker. He had to hurry to save her life.
Not far away, he could hear the sound of static as it crackled, then stopped, allowing the one holding it to speak. "Sir, they brought in the girl who was outside the dome. She was shot. So was Dan. They don't think that either will survive, sir," the voice stated, informing whoever was on the other end of the handheld radio.
Seeran looked at the medic. "Try to save her. I hear the spy," he whispered, then bolted out the door.
The static came again, and Travis's voice came on the line. "Make sure they don't," he growled. "My best friend is a traitor, and my sister is mated to one of them. They don't deserve to live."
Seeran ran faster, looking for the location of the sound of Travis and his spy as they conversed on the handheld radio; when he turned the corner, he saw him.
"Yes, sir," the man said, not yet seeing Seeran.
The man put his handheld radio back in his inside jacket pocket and started heading for the clinic to make sure the two in question didn't survive, as he had been ordered; Seeran followed. His eyes were fixed on the spy, who didn't know he was being followed. Two guards came around the corner; Seeran put his finger to his lips for them to remain silent. Flanking Seeran, the two guards and Seeran followed the spy.
The spy snuck around homes and hid in bushes as he made his way to the clinic.
Only a few feet away from the clinic, the spy took out a blaster. One of the guards behind him, seeing the man getting ready to shoot someone, shot the spy, causing the blaster to fall to the ground from the man's hand.
Seeran and the two guards rushed up to the spy. One guard pulled out bindings, binding the man's ankles and wrists. Their movements were fast and efficient, taking only seconds. When they were done, they dragged him into the clinic. Once at their destination, they began cutting off his clothes. As they did, they found weapons of various designs tucked away in folds and hidden pockets.
Taking out the handheld radio, they set it aside for Council Leader Vorik to deal with. The medic put the man in a karate-type Gi and bound him to a medical holding cage designed to hold prisoners needing medical attention.
They separated his ankles, attaching them to a bar so that he couldn't move them. After his ankles were secure, they attached each hand to the side of the cage so that he couldn't put his hands together. They secured him in a way that none of his limbs could touch each other.
The medic scanned his mouth, finding a fake tooth filled with a powerful poison. Most likely used in case caught, he could bite down on it and kill himself, so he wouldn't be able to give them any information. It was lucky for them that he had either forgotten about it or was hesitant to kill himself, not wanting to die.
Seeran looked at the guards. "He isn't the only spy for the militia. Keep an eye out for others trying to come into this clinic. Their goal is to kill my mate and her friend, Dan. He is like a brother to her, so protect them both. I need a guard or two at this clinic. I'm sure more will be coming to try to kill them," Seeran informed them. "Be vigilant, they will not hesitate to kill anyone to get to their targets."
The guards nodded and stood at the entrance of the med clinic, just inside. They needed a way to use the door frame as a shield if one of the spies shot at them.
"Council Leader Vorik," Seeran stated through the comm link. "We caught one of the spies. He was attempting to kill Hope and Dan at Travis's order, Sir. He was communicating with a handheld radio. We took possession of it."
"Stay with your mate; I'll send someone else to the North Gate," Council Leader Vorik responded. The comm link went silent.
Seeran ran back into the clinic, heading for Hope. The medic had her cleaned up. The bullet went through her side, missing all her internal organs. It was lucky that they missed anything important. She was losing too much blood when he brought her in. The medic cauterized the wound with a medical laser and patched her up. He successfully stopped the bleeding. He had her sedated and filled with painkillers to keep her from feeling any of the pain from her wound.
Seeran looked over at the medic. "How is Dan Wilson, the man brought in on the gurney just before her?" he asked.
"He's in the back room," the medic stated, pointing to the door in the back. He was still monitoring Hope; he couldn't leave her side.
Seeran got up and headed that way. When he stepped into the room, the medic looked up. He was digging out a bullet that was deep in Dan's flesh. "Is he going to make it?" Seeran asked the medic who was dealing with Dan. If Dan died, Hope would be devastated. He wasn't sure she could come back from that. After everything that had happened, he knew that his mate was close to Dan.
The medic pulled a scanner and quickly scanned Dan. "The weapon's cartridge traveled through his shoulder and then went into his lung. I was able to get it out and repair the damage. Because of the strange path it took, it made it difficult. If we were using human medical devices, he would not survive. He is breathing without too much difficulty. There is a second weapon cartridge in his leg. I am having to repair the artery as I take it out. If I don't, he will bleed to death. He was also hit on his side, but the carriage went through. I already repaired the damage."
Seeran nodded. "Those weapons cartridges are called bullets," he told the medic.
The medic nodded. "Much easier to say," he smiled, then turned back to his patient.
Seeran walked back out to his mate. The spy in the corner 'holding cage' sat limply on one side of the cage. The bandage on his side was slightly pink from the blood from his wound, which he had received from the blaster fire he had taken.
Council Leader Vorik rushed into the clinic, a cursory glance at the spy. He looked at Seeran. "Is that him?"
"Yes, sir," Seeran stated. "He was ordered to make sure that Hope and Dan did not survive. He pulled a blaster before he tried to enter. One of the guards who was with me saw the threat and fired a shot."
"How did he receive the order?" Vorik asked Seeran.
Seeran walked over to the handheld. "When I came in here with Hope, I heard the static of his radio, then the spy speaking through it. I followed the sound. I heard Travis on the other end giving him the order."
Vorik walked over to the first medic, who was busy treating Hope. "Will she survive?" he asked.
The medic nodded. "She will be fine. She was weak, to begin with, not yet recovered from before, but she should be fine, sir," the medic stated.
Seeran, knowing what Vorik was going to ask next, cut in before he could ask. "Dan is in the back room. I'll show you," he stated.
Vorik nodded and followed Seeran to where they found Dan being treated by a second medic.
The medic was patching one of the holes made by the bullets with a cauterizing device to close the wound and to stop the bleeding.
"Is Dan going to survive?" Vorik asked the medic.
"It appears so, sir," the medic responded, not looking away from his patient.
Council Leader Vorik nodded, then looked at Seeran. "We still have an emergency situation at the gates. I won't force it, but if you are willing, I need someone at the East gate while I go to the north gate," Vorik stated. His voice was tense. Stress radiates from every pore.
Seeran nodded. "If we can't defuse the situation, none of us are safe, sir. I will go to the East gate."
Relief flooded Vorik's features, and they both rushed to their respective gates.
