"T-minus 5 minutes till self-destruction." the facility system announced.
"Take a left. a right, go straight down the corridor and we will get on the elevator on our left!" Eliza directed me while I gave her a piggyback ride.
I ran past all the other lab rooms, test rooms and offices on the sub level, trying to get out of the facility as fast as possible and outrunning the energy surge which crept up behind slowly. It accelerated, moving faster than before. Its sudden expedited expansion caught me off guard and I picked up the pace.
Eliza on the other hand was holding on for dear life, however I was running fast enough so that she doesn't fly off of my back as I carried her. I took each corner hastily. We arrived before the elevator.
Eliza stumbled to take out her employee keycard after I let her off my back. After scanning her keycard we got into the elevator and she pressed the ground floor button.
"Donny, status report?" I asked him.
"We are still holding out. Just, unable to get rid of these guys!"
"How many are they?"
"About six or seven. Couldn't get a good count on them!" Marie said.
"Are they demons?" I asked.
"Yeah and they are giving us a run for our money! They are really relentless!" Donny said.
"This is the second time we go through this you know Donny!" Marie reminded him.
"SECOND TIME?!" Laura shouted in shock.
I stopped listening and looked back at Eliza, scared, worried and tensed up. I took a deep breath and said, "We are gonna through this." She got out of her thoughts and stared at me. The words finally registered and pressed her lips together and nodded slowly. She was distraught and gave her a little hope.
I know what you're thinking about the whole elevator situation, I don't know the answer to that but the author knows.
"Don't act surprised. You are the one writing my story." I muttered.
"Did you say something Captain?" Eliza asked.
"No, nothing at all." I told her.
Taking a deep breath and asking Eliza to stay in the elevator and to come out when I said it was clear for her to do so. I laid my hands by my side, closing them into fists and my pistols materializing in my hands making wrap around the guns instead. I clenched my guns tightly relieving any form of stress I had.
I took sometime to sense the demons above and to the right of the elevator up above. Their numbers were similar to Marie's estimation and that was all the information I needed. I looked up at the elevator display to see how far we were from the ground floor. I took a deep breath and clenched my teeth.
One step back I had taken and the doors opened up. I ran out and dove forward, turned my body to face the right, looked at the demons, pulled the triggers firing one bullet for each one of the demons before landing hard on the floor with a thud.
I watched as their disappeared. It seemed they went back to hell. I remembered that demons killed out of hell would only lead to the destruction of their physical forms and not their soul -it just get reborn in hell with a new form and with all their memories unless a special spell is cast on them to erase their memories, of which can be done by me-, however it only works outside hell itself.
I got up of the floor and looked back at my team. Marie, Donny and Tarius were all right, Laura wasn't in bad shape but she was in a bad mood keeping her shotgun aimed toward me and Veronica was still unconscious. Though Tarius still had few wounds from protecting both Laura and Veronica.
Tarius lowered her shotgun and stared her down, giving her the 'don't you dare look.' She resisted at first and faulterred and complied to his unspoken instruction.
The building began shaking as the explosions went off. 'Wait, I thought we had a bit more time before the explosions were to go off?' I thought to myself. While in my thoughts to sound of snapping cables pulled me out of my thoughts. We all had bad footing and I called out to Eliza to get out of the elevator. She couldn't get out nonetheless get up.
I rushed to help her out while trying to maintain my balance. Just as the cable holding the elevator snapped, I caught it by the entrance supporting up and she crawled out of the elevator, I let it go and she rushed out of the buildings destroyed entrance.
We rushed out of the entrance, though before Tarius and I could make it the lab facility fell backward causing him to slip as well as I and let go of Veronica. She slid across the floor, while Tarius managed to get up and leave the facility. I went after Veronica to save her, she fell into the elevator shaft and I dove head first after her.
I placed my arms and legs close to my body to reduce my body's surface area resulting in me falling down faster. I caught to her falling unconscious body, held her close to my body and spread out my wings. They moved my scapula out of the way and forced their way out through my skin and I clenched my jaw in pain.
As we were about to reach the bottom I slowed us and flapped my wings with enough force to flew up faster than we were falling. Dodging falling debris as I soar upward. As the building kept falling it rotated to a horizontal position, I was forced to flew along according to its position. Spotting the open doorway, I had to prepare for a maneuvre that needed me to change my direction in an instant and fly upward. I zoned in and focused on the precise timing.
At that instant I made my wings flap in the upward direction with a lot more force allowing us to fly through the narrow opening and up out of the falling building up to the edge of entrance.
I didn't give myself time to do a proper landing, so as soon as I made up above the edge, I fell towards the ground and rolled along the ground with my wings covering Veronica. I didn't want her harmed.
When I stopped rolling, I was on my back and I lay my wings on the ground before they went back into my back under my skin and my scapula moving back to their original positions.
I moved Veronica off of me, and got up on my feet. I dusted myself off and found my team right before me. Everyone but Tarius and Eliza perplexed beyond shock.
"What the fuck was that?" Laura said whilst her shotgun was in hand but she remembered Tarius' stern warning and kept the barrel facing the ground. I ignored the question and breathed out slowly.
"Eliza do you have a place nearby for us to rest up for a bit before we head on out to the other dimensional gate at the old stadium?" I asked her.
"Y-yeah, I do. It's a couple blocks away from here. W-wait, Captain you have wings?"
"That's not for us to discuss out here. Look I want to look back at something, so you guys go on ahead without me. Tarius, take Veronica with and keep a close eye on her. What are you waiting for? Go!"
Tarius lifted Veronica up off the ground and carried. They all left and I had time to relax. By the ledge I looked down to the building, then it exploded. I held up my hand to shield my eye until the explosion leaving behind useless rubble.
My attention was suddenly caught by a figure across the deep crater that was left. It looked very familiar and while I stared at it, it looked in my direction noticing it was being. Without hesitation it walked away, then a flash of lightning struck them and they vanished.
'Melisa?' I thought to myself.
I turned away from the crater and ran after the others.
