Devil Equinox

Chapter 3: Chapter Two (Part B)

Let's get back to the story, okay? As we were about to slide off another fricking edge, Donny was exceptionally dubious of the plan, "Is it even going to work at all?" he said as he feared for his life, "It will if you stop being a bitch about it!" Dante exclaimed, and with no moment to waste, we slid over the edge, and then turned over to face the building one more time, grappling hooks went flying and got themselves snagged by something.

Admittedly, this was far from ever happening and we would have been red puddles of red goo, but we did not luckily, but Dante on the other hand well (remember he has no armor), I had to grab him in order to keep him alive, really, we had climbed down as we were twenty meters away from the ground, but our lines could only go ten meters down towards the ground, so we jumped off from there.

Flabbergasted that we survived the fall, we were still on a mission and it was six in the afternoon and had to move on because the city does not have time to wait. It was very odd that these demons were in sight, maybe we weren't much of a threat or something, probably even planning an attack on my team and me, but who knows, either way they weren't around.

Then there was a very wide road ahead of us and it clearly lead to the center of the city, so we walked, weapons out, scouting out the area for potential dangers as we moved on ahead, but there was nothing around, too good to be true I know but that was all to it.

The ground trembled beneath us, "Earthquake?" Donny asked but there was no clear indication of an earthquake, "That wasn't an earthquake," I said cautiously, then the road started breaking from behind us.

We then ran but it was too late for us, as the road broke within 10 meters from where we are and fell 30 meters deep underground into an hidden underground river, however we still not safe for the reason of falling debris from the road above and had to dive deep into the freezing cold river water, but luckily our armor had built in oxygen tanks for use when we are not in open air.

The falling debris stopped as there were no longer any more that could fall and we had swum to the nearest river bank to get on land again. We had setup a small camp for the night to rest. Fortunately there a tunnel that led from the bank to the city above.

"When was there ever a river beneath the city," asked Donny out of surprise.

"It's been here for a while," I said.

"I've never had of it though," he said.

"They must have forgotten about it, or someone wanted to keep it a secret," I finally said standing up.

I went ahead and took a leak away from the others because I was pressed. As I returned back to the three, Mary asked me, "After all of this, are we going to tell the others?" I looked back at her with a little bit of pity and made the choice to tell her, "We can't tell anyway when we are dead, can we?"

Mary and Donny both looked at me confused, "What do you mean?" as they knew nothing about what Mynde had in mind. I looked at them and sighed, "General Mynde arranged funerals for all of us and now we are ghosts," I told as they needed to face reality. "Now that everyone thinks we are dead, we do missions in secret to protect everyone else, even your families," I told them, then Dante looked at and said, "I don't have a family,"

"I know," I spoke without a second thought.

We were exhausted after all events that had transpired and noticeably we spent most of the time trying to swim out of a rapid river. Time, 2100 hours, we needed rest, especially Mary and Donny, for tomorrow. I slept on a rock for the night while the other three were in a tent.

Midnight, I heard footsteps walking past, "Leaving so soon, aren't you Dante?" I asked out, "You're still awake?" Dante questioned silently. Silence pierced the night leaving the sound of the flowing river, admittedly it was breathtaking but I still needed an answer, "Are you going after your sister" I asked.

"How do you… never mind. Before I leave, I asked someone by the name of Tarius," he said.

But I cut him off before he could finish, "Why my brother?" I asked in temper. Tarius and Darius are not the same person mind you. With a smirk he asked, "Didn't know you two were siblings?" I looked back at him seriously, "We are not. Well not by blood," I said.

"Really? Then how are you brothers?" he asked again.

"That is not a question you want an answer to," I said fiercely.

From his face the smirk disappeared into a worrisome look, pussy, I thought as he worried for no particular reason, "Okay, he should arrive any moment now," Dante said impatiently. As if his prayers were answered, Tarius arrived and Dante left soon after.

Looking towards him, he was slightly buffer than I remembered but his eyes were still emerald green, his chin chiseled and the biggest chest I have ever seen, not to sound gay but it is as is. Then I realized his hair was no longer blond, it was now black. "It has been so long since I have seen you brother," he said in gentle deep voice, "Well that make's the both of us but there's no time to catch up," I said. He looked happy to see me after what, 600 years, "Ah yes, Dante has told me all about your mission," he said, but I was in no mood to continue this conversation, "That's good" I said, "We will continue on tomorrow," I concluded and I then laid back and resumed my nap.
