Louise turned towards the stairway's direction, unable to look me in the eye.
"Pfftt…" Louise's face darkened as he heard Zhenny and Alya's chuckles.
When did those two get that close? I was pretty sure they both wanted to kill each other just minutes ago.
Louise continued to walk as if he didn't hear it. A red-haired woman with cat ears and cat-like paws, but also no tail, glared at Zhenny and Alya, then followed after Louise without a word.
With everything about Pazuzu, Zhenny's reaction, it was clear that I was important to them.
That's probably the only reason I could get away with talking shit to Louise. When I was threatening him, he seemed plenty capable of killing me before I could even think of using the echo summoning, mostly because I got stupidly close to him.
But in the end, it worked in our favor. Now I know how far I can push them.
Kobi's eyes moved from us to Alphas to us again and again, fanatically. He didn't seem sure what to add after everything happened so fast.
"Um… Lucien?"
I turned sharply towards Kobi. Don't tell me he has something to say, too? I didn't want to threaten him too, but he might not leave me a choice. If he took Louise's side and other Alphas joined in, then it could start another, much bigger argument.
He lowered his head. "Thank you for everything you're doing for us, even after how we've been treating you. If we work together, I am certain we will get out alive."
His eyes softened. "I am sure you miss the world outside just as much as Ren. Let me thank you properly over some drinks?" Now I feel guilty...
He continued with a chuckle, "You are the first person capable of silencing him like that."
I scratched my chin at the unexpected praise. "Uh, it's nothing much. I am up for the drinks as long as they are on you." I chuckled too.
"Of course they're on the old man! He might not seem like it, but he's probably the richest person in the room," Zhenny said smugly through a laugh.
Alya was smiling too, but her forehead had some lines forming. Something was on her mind, and I knew what it was.
"Shouldn't you lead us, Kobi? Zhenny, I see a lot of tomfoolery for someone who was tryna boss us around like that. What happened to your big talk?"
Kobi and Zhenny's faces immediately paled at Louise's cold, uncaring voice. They both bowed apologetically to us and ran up to him, describing all the routes and guard spots they had scouted.
"Alya…" I walked closer to my beautiful vampire wife.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
Louise, Zhenny, and Kobi led the way as the other Alphas settled into a formation right behind them. Alya and I were also following silently after, a few meters away, stealing glances at each other.
We were passing through the hallway where Alya had killed that guard, walking right in front of other guards spread all across the pathway, all unable to see, feel, or hear us, even as the Alphas talked right in front of them.
We never hid that guard's headless body and barely cleaned the blood off our clothes, so the intense security was expected. But Grant's illusion rendered them completely useless.
"What's your favorite food, Alya?" I tried to kill the incredibly awkward silence.
"Cheesecake. With ice cream. Vanilla, or maybe strawberry." Alya mumbled with a finger on her chin. So cute! I noted every item seriously.
This world surprisingly had modern food items. Well, maybe not; I had no idea how old cheesecake was.
"Then I know where we will go on our first date," I said through a seductive smile (at least seductive in my book).
She covered her mouth while stealing a few glances at me. "You're pushing it now, hm." She said without looking. I knew she was blushing.
I pinched my nose as the smell of rotting corpses filled our nostrils. It wasn't much of a bother as we moved past the guards cleaning the bodies of some other dead Mari Swan goons someone, probably another escapee, had killed.
"Oh? So, I should cancel our date in a human cafe?" I feigned a depressed face. "Sad, I was planning it the first thing we got out."
"Huh?!" She shouted, then buried her face in her hands as every Alpha, Zhenny, and Kobi stared at her. "I never said no," she whispered in a barely audible voice.
"So… That means yes. I take that as you want to go on a date with me?" I wrapped my arm around her shoulder. "Let's go!" I made a victory pose like I had just done a squad wipe while my teammates were dead.
"Ow!"
"Stop teasing me!" She pouted, pinching my waist.
We soon reached the stairway, blocked by two guards standing on both sides of the entrance. They were holding long spears crossed together. I wasn't sure they would ignore their spears moving by themselves if we tried to pass in this magical world with weird abilities.
Louise also realized that. His white robe flowed freely with the wind as he closed in on them.
As he raised his muscular arm, my eyes automatically clenched shut.
Thwackk! Splat!
With a single, rather gentle slap, basically tapping the two men's helmeted cheeks, his hand blasted through the heads of both guards, the strong smell of blood overwhelming my senses. I… wanted to lick the ground. Even though I was quite full, blood started to appear delicious again.
Alya noticed me drooling at the almost blended faces of the two men, pulling me by the hand forcefully.
"If it gets bad, just ask me." She shook her head with a blush. "That won't fill you."
"Aren't you hungry, Alya?" I asked as we began rushing through the stairs. "You can suck mine, too!" I felt as if I was getting awkward stares from the group ahead. What? We can't even eat now?
"I am fine. And, with that ability of yours, I will be full too." She nodded.
But I want you to suck mine! Oh well. I will save that for after our date.
"If I can't control it, I will tell you," I agreed.
A few minutes passed, and we finally entered the dungeon part of the organization. It instinctively made my back cover with sweat, remembering how many people were tortured so brutally here, including Alya.
She had a deep frown on her face.
With a deep sigh, I said, "I only realized I had that after I killed Sue." It was the truth. I felt there was a need to say it since it might seem like I was part of the cause of all the suffering she went through here.
