Morning came, and Drake and his cohort gulped down their breakfast before packing up and storing the cabin in his 'storage' book.
They were all ready to complete the quest. They had arrived at their destination and only needed to figure out how to retrieve the pendant.
They stood as a group, watching 'The River of Peace.' The water rushed across the land, and the roaring water's movement sounded like white noise. It was a deafening sound.
Staring at the bridge, they weren't sure what to do next.
"I have a feeling that if we step too close to the bridge, the toll will stop us. Do either of you know anything about troll lore?" Drake asked his friends. "He already knew; he just wanted to know if his friends knew anything about it."
"You're the gamer, you tell us," Mike drawled. "I know football, not magical creatures."
Drake turned his gaze to Chad, who just shrugged. "I don't know either."
"Trolls protect bridges. At least they do in most of my games. You are required to pay a toll to get across the bridge safely. We're not trying to get across, but we need to get something from the middle of the bridge. That means we have to pay the toll to get access to the bridge," Drake explained.
"What do you think the troll wants?" Mike asked. His gaze did not waver from the bridge.
Chad was back, a few more steps behind Mike and Drake. He was trying to stay away from the river. His face was already pale. Cold sweat gleamed in the twin sun's light, reflecting on his brow.
"I know what to give the troll. I found it last night. We just have to get him or her… not sure if the troll under the bridge is male or female, to come out from under the bridge."
"So we just step closer to the bridge, right?" Mike asked his friend.
"Yep. That's all we need to do. Don't attack. Just remain calm and let me handle this one. If it attacks, then we have no choice but to defend ourselves. I'm pretty sure when the troll finds out what I have to pay to cross the bridge, they will be more than happy with it." Drake said calmly.
Without saying anything else, Drake stepped closer to the bridge. He moved with a slow, purposeful movement, giving the troll time to react.
As he got closer to the bridge, there was a movement in the shadows under the bridge. The bridge began to sway, and then it shook.
The shadow moved closer, then golden hands reached up and pulled the large body attached to them onto the front of the bridge, blocking the way, preventing Drake from moving closer.
The troll shimmered with golden skin. It's clothes made of leather and fur. Rope wrapped around the thick swaths of fur that covered its feet and lower legs. She wore a large vest, covering large breasts that barely fit in the stiff leather garment.
Her glowing purple eyes, showing she was a level 5 beast, narrowed in anger at being disturbed from her slumber. She did not attack. The large golden troll only stood, blocking their path onto the bridge with narrowed, angry eyes.
Drake bowed to the golden troll in respect. "We apologize for disturbing you. I am here for two reasons. One of those reasons is to return to you an item that is rightfully yours. I acquired it in a fight and found that it belonged to you. The other reason is that we need to obtain the pendant. We wish to know what you wish to be paid for us to obtain it."
Mike and Chad watched as Drake spoke to the golden troll. Her angry eyes glared at Drake.
Drake didn't show any signs of being intimidated. He pulled out the storage book, which contained the Golden Troll Egg. Finding the page, he carefully pulled out the egg, then stretched his hands forward, offering her the egg.
"We fought the one who took it. It was part of what we had earned after our fight. I found out that it belongs to you, so I am returning it to you," Drake told her calmly.
The large golden troll stared at Drake in shock, her enormous eyes moving to the egg. A single tear ran down her cheek.
Drake stepped forward, still holding the egg out for her to take.
The troll swallowed hard, emotions washing like waves over her face. She still didn't move; her eyes fixed on the egg in his hands. It was heavy; it was getting harder for him to hold every second that passed. The egg was over a foot in diameter, and it weighed roughly eight pounds. It wasn't much at first, but if he stood there for much longer, he was in danger of dropping it. He didn't want to do that.
Getting tired of waiting, Drake slowly walked up to the troll and placed the egg carefully on the ground in front of her before stepping back a few feet, giving the troll room to do what she wished with the egg.
Patiently waiting, he watched the troll. Her eyes remained on the egg.
{Quest Complete: Return the Golden Troll Egg to its owner}
Drake smiled, seeing that the quest was complete. He waited to hear what the reward was, but it didn't come. Remembering some of the previous quests, he knew that the reward could come from the troll he had returned the egg to. The reward would eventually come. It didn't matter. He could see the joy in the troll's features as she stared at the egg. That alone was enough of a reward.
His friends stayed back watching, not wanting to get involved. They didn't know what was going on, so all they did was watch.
Drake stayed in his position, watching the large golden troll. She hadn't moved to pick up the egg. It looked like she was debating whether what she was seeing was real or an illusion. It was like she was afraid to touch it to find out that it wasn't real.
