Bren stood at his counter, carving a wooden figurine. Because his toys were primitive compared to the high-tech toys on the market, customers rarely visited his store. Whenever the large bell on his door rang, he was pleased someone showed interest in his handmade toys. The toys he crafted were his pride and joy.
As he carved the tiny wooden toy, the bell on his door rang. He looked up to see who had entered. The three young dimensional heirs had returned. This made him smile.
He couldn't help but smile widely, seeing the boys come in. Each time, they brought him news of Draco Town. Their presence allowed him to write back and forth with his sister. If they hadn't come in for the toys before, he would never have been able to reconnect with his sister.
"Good afternoon, Bren," Drake, the young man with emerald green eyes, greeted. The boy was holding a large box with a smile on his face. He appeared happy, but there was sadness in the depths of his eyes. He wondered why, but chose not to ask. It wasn't any of his business.
"You're already done with your quest?" It hadn't been long since they had left his shop. He wondered if they hadn't left yet and were about to.
"Only up to the third one. We're about to start our fourth." Drake set the box on the counter, where there was enough space away from the toys in progress that were already on the counter. "I need to order a doll. It's for a newborn golden troll. Her name is Daisy, and I promised her a doll."
Bren's eyes went wide. "A baby golden troll?" Bren asked after hearing what Drake had said. It sounded unbelievable to get close to a baby toll without the mother pulverizing you. They were incredibly protective of the eggs and their newborns. If they got so close as to promise a doll to the child, there had to be a story involved.
"Yes, we found and then returned her stolen egg, and she let us watch it hatch." The young Drake pointed to the large box. "I brought this for you to go through while we're on the fourth quest. It's letters from a lot of the residents of Draco town." Drake's voice went low, sounding sad. "They didn't know you were still alive."
Bren sat on the stool behind him, shocked at what he had just heard. "I'm not supposed to be," he said. "He wanted to kill me, but couldn't because of the laws. I believe it was your grandfather, not your father, but at the time of the incident, it was the current dimension master." Bren breathed in a few times before he continued. "I saw something I shouldn't have, and instead of killing me, he sent me here, away from my family. The law prevented the dimension master from harming those in the dimension, so he sent me here. It would have killed him and his bloodline."
The young man studied Bren for a moment before he spoke. His emerald-green eyes sparkled in the dim light of the shop. "Our fathers dealt with him, as well as his cohort. The dimension stripped them of their power, and my father sent them to the dimensional prison. My father didn't even know you were here." Drake paused before he continued. "Our grandfathers attacked us on the road and stole our power. Our fathers had to get involved. In the end, we regained our power, and we are no longer bound to our grandfather's bloodline. It's more like they are no longer bound to ours. It's a little confusing. They are rotting in the dimensional prison. His belongings contained a golden egg. We returned it to the rightful owner. Now I need a doll for the baby golden troll."
Bren sighed. The story Drake told was unbelievable, but he knew the boys spoke the truth. "I already have a golden troll doll. I'll get it for you."
He remembered the incident when the dimension master had stolen the egg. It was the incident in question. He had overheard that they were going to use it to take complete control of the dimension. They knew of a spell that would destroy the dimension avatar and allow them to take its place. The dimension avatar was a personification of the dimension that appeared to be another resident, yet wasn't one. It was the dimension itself.
The young heirs waited at the front of the store as Bren retrieved the large doll. It even wore a fur dress, made to look like a troll in the dimensional realm. It was perfect. Bren looked over at the three boys who waited patiently, then his gaze moved to the box of letters. He smiled, happy that because of them, he could reconnect with those he cared about in Draco town.
Back at the counter, he handed the doll to the young Drake. "It's on me. I think the letters and the ability to write back and forth are enough. Thank you. Thank you for everything."
The young Drake paused for a moment, acting like he didn't want to accept the doll for free. It pleased Bren. It told him more about the boy's character. He finally nodded. "Thank you." He pushed the box toward Bren. "There are a lot of people who are waiting for you to respond to their letters. I'll be back again after the fourth quest. That will give you time to read through them. Do you have anything for me to take back with me?"
"Not this time. Just tell them thank you for all the letters, and I will write back to them when I can."
The boy nodded. "I'll let them know."
Bren watched the three boys as they waved goodbye and left his store. He looked down at the large box and opened it. There were almost a hundred letters. It makes him smile. His gaze moved up, watching the boys drive out of the small parking lot and out of sight. He smiled. "Someday," he whispered. "Someday."
