Immediately, Drake stood up. He looked at his father. "Do we need to go to Draco Town first, or can we go to Storm Town to find out what's going on?" He wasn't sure what the rules were for the dimension master's heirs when they were going through their ascension quests. He worried the dimension did not allow them to go anywhere else when they first arrived at the dimension to start their quest.
Drake Sr. shook his head. "No, you can go straight there. The tavern is your quest starting point. You can go there when you finish dealing with whatever issue is in Storm Town. There's no rush to finish, although it's best to get through them as quickly as you can; you don't need to rush completing them."
Mike and Chand moved next to Drake. The two familiars were still on his shoulder as he pulled his staff out of the storage cuff, then slammed it onto the floor.
The brilliant green light flashed, then faded. When it was gone, they were standing in the center of Storm Town.
There were crowds of people running around in fear as they saw the heirs arrive in the center of town. Drake grabbed one man by the arm as he attempted to run past him. "What's going on?"
The man shook his head, then tore his arm from Drake's grip and continued to run. His face was pale. His eyes were wide with panic as he rushed away.
Drake knew their arrival had only made the people's fear grow. He could tell by the looks they were giving them as they ran. He guessed it was because of the last time they had come to the town. They caught the traders and ended up removing the three men's hands before they put them in the castle's dungeon.
"System, lead us to the mayor, please," he instructed the system.
Seconds later, a green line appeared. "Let's find the mayor and find out what's going on here," Drake mumbled, then followed the glowing thread. Mike and Chad flanked him, looking at the surroundings and the people running in panic. They needed to figure out what was going on so they could deal with it and start on their quest.
It didn't take them very far. The line led them to an older man in gray clothing, who stood only a few feet away from them. The man looked up, seeing that they had arrived. His face paled.
"Don't move," Drake shot out. His eyes narrowed at the mayor, hoping the man wouldn't run.
When they reached the mayor, Mike stepped forward, passing Drake. It was his town, after all. "What happened?" he asked the mayor, not even bothering to find out the man's name.
The man stepped back in and didn't answer. He stared at Mike in fear.
Mike sighed and then glared at the man. "I asked… what happened!?"
With his anger at not being told, an electric current pulsed through his body. It had never happened before. He knew he was stronger after what had happened during the last quest. It was the same as what happened with his sword, only it was his entire body. He grabbed the man by the collar; The electrical current crackled louder with each movement he made. "Something happened here. What was it!?" Mike demanded.
The man yelped as the current touched his skin.
Drake didn't intervene. This was Strom Town, not Draco Town. It was Mike's town. He would let Mike take the lead unless there was something he needed to do.
The man in Mike's grip gulped louder; his eyes went to one side, looking at something. Mike looked in the area where the man was looking.
It was a gargoyle standing several feet away, watching them. It had a massive grin on its ugly face. Its large fangs gleamed in the morning light of the twin suns.
Drake tossed the mayor at Drake. "Hold him."
Drake caught the man and gripped him in a vice grip, stronger than he had remembered being able to do. The man yelped in pain. Drake figured his newfound strength came from his last quest. It had to be ever since he had received his grandfather's power.
Mike stalked over to the lone gargoyle. "Why are you here?" he demanded. He didn't attack. The rules stated he couldn't kill the creature unless it attacked him first.
The gargoyle smiled. "We wait for you," it said.
Mike waited for it to speak more, but it didn't. It only stared at Mike. The smug grin was still on its ugly face.
"System, analyze and explain what's going on here. We received a warning. I want to know what it was for." Drake silently told the system. His grip remained on the mayor. He had loosened it enough for it to no longer hurt the man.
{Storm Town analyzed}
{Gargoyles invaded the town.}
{A magic barrier is in place}
{The town is a trap designed to trap the heirs.}
{New Quest received: Kill gargoyles to open the trap 0/50}
Drake smiled. After activating the lie detection, he looked at the mayor. "Did you agree to trap us, or is it just the gargoyles?"
The man paled further. "Th..th..they just came…O..o..our tt..town ii..isn't involved," he stumbled out.
The system gave no response. The man was telling the truth. "You're telling the truth," he said, then, releasing the man, he headed toward Mike. Chad stayed silent and quickly followed. The man stumbled backward, nearly falling onto the stone walkway.
After letting his whip uncoil, it fell to the ground. He slashed at the gargoyle, immediately cutting off its head.
The head fell to the ground with a thud, then rolled to the side, before bursting into light particles.
{Gargoyles killed 1/50}
"What the fuck?" Mike complained.
Drake only smiled. "We are in Storm Town. This entire town is a trap. We received a quest to kill all 50 gargoyles to open the trap. All of them are fair game."
Hearing Drake's words, Mike and Chad grinned at once, overjoyed because they didn't have to worry if the gargoyles attacked first or not. They could kill them all, regardless. "Let's kill some gargoyles!" Mike cheered.
