Chapter 123: 123: Gelda & Daisy

After speaking with the mayor of Storm Town, Drake moved to the middle of the town square. Mike and Chad could see what he was about to do, so they moved with him, preparing to be teleported to Draco Town. It turned out Draco Town was not where Drake was taking them.

Once everyone was in position, Drake slammed his staff into the cobbled square. The familiar flash of bright green light consumed them. When it faded, they were standing only a few feet from the bridge where Gelda, the golden troll, lived. Mike and Chad smiled at seeing the bridge. They wanted to visit the baby troll. Her hatching was still fresh in their minds.

Drake immediately took out the fairly large golden doll and headed for the bridge, stopping only a foot away from it.

Gelda, feeling someone near her territory, pulled herself out from under the bridge. Her hands were visible first as she gripped the edge of the bridge and pulled up her enormous body. As she did, Drake could see that Daisy was in a leather sling across her chest, fast asleep.

When she saw who it was at her bridge, she smiled widely. Gelda liked the three boys who had returned her egg. She had become one of their allies because of their good hearts. She smiled down at the boys.

"Hello, Gelda," Drake greeted. "I promised Daisy a doll and wanted to bring it to her before we started our quest. I don't know how long the next quest is, and she shouldn't have to wait for it." Drake held up the shimmering doll to Gelda. "I would say hello to Daisy, but I don't want to wake her. I will visit when I can."

Gelda took the golden doll from Drake's hand. "Daisy, not asleep."

Drake frowned to himself. To him, the baby troll looked like she was sleeping comfortably in the large sling around Gelda's shoulder.

Carefully, Gelda unwrapped the leather sling that was on her shoulder, bringing out Daisy. Daisy giggled in response, happy to see her surroundings.

Drake stepped forward and kissed the young troll's forehead. "Hello, Daisy," he said gently. "I brought you a gift."

Gelda handed him the doll, which Drake gently placed next to the cheerful baby troll. The baby troll clutched it, smiling up at Drake, while she hugged the golden doll tightly, then continued to giggle some more.

Drake smiled at the small troll. "She's already growing," he observed. Daisy had already doubled in size since they left the bridge, making him glad he had gone to give her the doll immediately. After seeing how quickly she grew, he was afraid that if he had waited, she would have already grown up.

Renn and Ruby, on Drake's shoulder, leaned forward to see the baby. Both familiars made soft sounds, trying not to frighten the baby. They seemed to have grown attached to Daisy, too.

"Will you return soon?" Gelda asked.

"Only when I can. We have to go to Draco Town to start our quest. There are so many others trying to stop us, so we need to get them done before someone finally succeeds."

Mike and Chad stayed quiet. letting Drake and Gelda speak.

Gelda looked at the two boys. "Do you want to say hello?" she asked, pointing to the baby in her sling.

Without hesitation, Mike and Chad went to Daisy. Both boys smiled down at the golden troll. "She's beautiful," Chad smiled down at Daisy. Mike nodded in agreement. He was smiling as well.

One after the other, they kissed her forehead. "Hello, baby girl," Chad whispered.

"Hello, little one," Mike said, smiling softly.

Gelda watched, smiling at the two boys as they made Daisy giggle in delight at being spoken to.

After the two boys finished, they stepped back.

Gelda looked down at Drake. "You must be careful on your quest. Don't want you to get hurt," she said solemnly. "You good boys. Rare to find good boys like you."

"We will be careful," Drake assured her. "We need to go so we can get started."

Gelda smiled while she wrapped the sling back onto her shoulder, safely tucking Daisy into it. "I return to the bridge; be safe on your quest."

Drake watched Gelda climb back under the bridge and disappear out of sight. He smiled before turning to his two friends. "Are you ready to get back to Draco Town so we can start our quest?"

With agreements all around, Drake slammed his staff into the dirt. There was a bright flash of green light that consumed them before it faded. When it was gone, they were standing at the welcome sign, welcoming them to Draco Town.

Gelda watched as the boys disappeared in a bright green flash. She prayed to the dimensions to keep the boys safe. She already knew that there were forces at work trying to stop them from taking their positions. "You finish quests safely," she whispered at the spot where the boys had disappeared.

What the boys didn't know was that Daisy was more than magical. She was somewhat of a protective charm. It was one of the reasons the boys' grandfathers had stolen her. When the three boys had kissed Daisy's forehead, it gave them a measure of protection. The way they kissed her was part of a ritual of protection. They didn't know that, and she wasn't going to tell them what they did unknowingly. It was something she was hoping they would do. She was delighted that none of the boys hesitated in acting.

All golden trolls were magical. Even she was, but when there is a bond between the troll and the ones with whom they bond. Then the protective charm placed on them is far stronger. It was one of the reasons she wanted them to watch Daisy hatch. Being at the birth would automatically form a bond between all of them. The added benefit of becoming allies with the boys made the protective charm even greater. She smiled at the spot where they disappeared. "Be safe, young ones."
