99: Draco Town
As the light vanished, Dake looked around him. His father stood near him, and so did his cohort. Chad and Mike stood behind, while Renn and Ruby flanked them.
Drake had been happy that he had succeeded when he teleported everyone back to the town.
Drake Sr. looked at Drake. "How did you know?"
Drake shrugged. "How did I know it was only a test? Well, I knew because of the note that was left in the tavern for us to find. It had been bugging me for a while. The note said, 'If you are worthy heirs, save them all.' It bothered me because of the wording used. It felt like it was a test. They were trying to see if we were worthy of continuing the quest. My gut tells me that the goblins would die themselves during that test to prevent whatever happened in the past from happening again."
"If that was so, then shouldn't they have tested me when I was an heir?" Drake Sr asked his son.
Shaking his head, Drake began walking into the town. He wanted to check on the people. Nelly and Tod specifically. He also needed to give Nelly the note from Bren. "Maybe they didn't think to test you." He paused for a second before he continued. "Or maybe because of what I've heard, that I'm the last Dimension Master. If that's true, maybe they don't want to get stuck with someone acting like a tyrant."
Drake looked around him. The people remained in the town square where he had teleported them. He took out the note and looked around the crowd for Nana.
She stood near the tavern with Mayor Ivan. Tod and Nelly stood beside her. Everyone else in the town looked around, not sure what had gotten them back to town.
Drake walked up to Nana and handed her the note she had received from Bren. "Bren gave this to me to give to you," he told her.
Nana took the note from Drake's hand and hugged him. He didn't expect her to do that. It wasn't something she normally did when he encountered her. It felt nice, so he didn't complain.
"Thank you," she told him quietly. "For helping me talk to my brother, and for coming after us to save us. Thank you."
Drake looked down at Tod. "Tod helped. He left a note that told us who took all of you," Drake said, patting the top of Tod's head.
Nana's eyes swelled with pride. "He's a good boy."
Nelly ran up to Drake and wrapped her arms around his leg. "Drake… Drake… Drake!"
He picked her up quickly and smiled. "Hello, Nelly. Are you hurt?" he asked, trying to keep his voice low.
She shook her head. "No, you saved us!" she cheered.
Drake sighed. "I had help with that. Even my father and his friends helped. I came with my beasts and my own friends too."
Drake handed Nelly to Mayor Ivan. "I need to talk to Ivan," he told her, before rushing off to find the mayor.
When he found him, he was talking to his soldiers. They stood in front of the tavern, not going in. He was glad because he didn't want to start his next quest yet. After everything that had happened, he knew that if he went into the tavern and then left, the third quest would begin the moment they left the tavern. None of them wanted that.
Mayor Ivan saw him approach.
When Drake arrived, he stopped, then looked at the men around Ivan. "How did the goblins get all of you to the island?"
"They teleported us," Ivan told him. "We suddenly vanished, then found ourselves in the center of the goblin's base where you found us."
Drake nodded. "They won't do that again. They were testing me to see if I was worthy of completing the quests. I suppose they deemed me worthy because they requested to become allies. I told them to leave innocent lives out of it, but I agreed."
Behind him, Drake Sr. headed toward him with his cohort close behind. Mike and Chad were with Drake's familiars as they talked to Nana, Tod, and Nelly.
Drake turned to his father and waited for him to arrive. When he did, Drake hugged his father. "Thank you for trusting me."
The Dimension Master nodded. "We could only help because the dimension allowed it. We wouldn't have been able to otherwise. The only thing that we could do that you couldn't was teleport you to the island. You had never been there before, so it was the only thing that you couldn't do yourself."
Drake shook his head. "No, that wasn't all. We both had to look at the clues. It didn't show me anything until you added your own power to see it."
His father nodded in agreement. "Sure, you have me there; you're right. You needed me for the added power and the teleportation ability. We had to work together, or you would be trying to find the island right now. I concede."
As Drake spoke to his father, Mayor Ivan checked his roster to make sure that no one was missing. He let them leave as he got to their names. When he was done, he headed for the tavern with his soldiers. It was his normal spot unless he wanted to go to the tavern to eat some of Mary's cooking.
"We're heading back. We can't help you with your quest," Drake Sr. explained. "Come to see us after you finish. I'll have more supplies delivered for you to store in your book."
"Thanks, Dad," Drake said before he hugged his father. His father stepped back, and then his group came closer to him. Once they were close enough, he slammed his staff into the ground. A bright flash of green light lit the area. When it faded, his father and his two best friends were gone.
Drake turned away from where his father once stood and headed for the tavern door. His friends walked behind him. Renn and Ruby transformed into their smaller forms and jumped onto Drake's shoulder as he walked up the steps and entered the tavern.
