A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 201: When Feelings Come Naturally

"Dirk Carter?"

Charlotte Ramey immediately noticed Dirk Carter standing in the living room.

Dirk Carter instantly stopped in his tracks, turned around to look at Charlotte Ramey, and asked, "Deputy Mayor Ramey hasn't gone to bed yet?"

"Oh, I was a bit thirsty, came out to get something to drink, and you? What are you doing?"

Charlotte Ramey asked.

Dirk Carter quickly said, "Oh, I was too, I also came out to find something to drink."

"Isn't the refrigerator that way?"

Charlotte Ramey pointed in the opposite direction of Dirk Carter and said.

Dirk Carter chuckled and said, "Then I must be confused, went the wrong way."

Charlotte Ramey didn't show any signs of suspicion.

She walked to the refrigerator, took out two bottles of water, handed one to Dirk Carter, and said, "Get some rest early."

"Okay, goodnight, Deputy Mayor Ramey."

Dirk Carter took the water back to his room, closed the door, and only then calmed down.

He thought to himself that was too close.

If the scene of him holding Christina Ramey back to the room had been two minutes later, Charlotte Ramey would have caught them red-handed.

Early the next morning.

When Dirk Carter got up, it was already around eight o'clock.

He washed up and opened the door.

He saw Charlotte Ramey and Christina Ramey already sitting at the dining table.

When Charlotte Ramey saw Dirk Carter, she immediately waved and said, "Dirk Carter, come have breakfast."

Dirk Carter had no choice but to sit down at the dining table.

Charlotte Ramey pushed a prepared breakfast in front of him.

Feeling guilty like a thief.

Dirk Carter ate quietly with his head down.

Charlotte Ramey suddenly asked, "Did you two hear any strange sounds last night?"

"Strange sounds? What sounds?"

Christina Ramey asked.

Charlotte Ramey shook her head and said, "I don't know; it sounded like someone playing poker, but it didn't quite sound right. I was woken up by it."

As soon as she said this.

The two of their faces immediately flushed.

Especially Christina Ramey, who instantly became nervous.

She hesitated and stammered, "Mom, you must have imagined it, there wasn't any poker playing sound."

"Then I must have heard wrong."

Charlotte Ramey said.

After breakfast.

Charlotte Ramey asked, "Dirk Carter, do you have time this morning?"

"Uh, I have time."

Dirk Carter responded.

Charlotte Ramey said, "Alright, I'll come to your room later, and we'll continue the treatment."

"Treatment, Mom, treatment for what?"

Christina Ramey suddenly became interested and asked.

Charlotte Ramey said, "Mom's health has some issues. Dirk Carter's family has practiced traditional Chinese medicine for generations, which is why I invited him over for treatment."

"Mom, can I watch?"

Christina Ramey asked.

Charlotte Ramey rolled her eyes and said, "What's there to see in a treatment?"

"But I just want to see, can I?"

Christina Ramey held Charlotte Ramey's arm and said coyly.

Charlotte Ramey had no choice either and said, "Fine, just watch. Mom will go change clothes first."

After saying that, she turned and went into the bedroom.

The door closed with a click.

Christina Ramey quickly put a hand on her chest and said, "That scared me to death. Luckily, we were quiet last night. If we had been louder, Mom would have heard for sure."

Dirk Carter smiled slightly.

He said, "Your mother already knows."

"What?"

Christina Ramey was stunned and looked at Dirk Carter in disbelief.

Dirk Carter nodded and said, "Your mom is very smart. She actually realized something was off. From last night when she asked you to sleep with her, she already knew something, she just didn't say it explicitly."

"Ah? What should I do? It's over, really over. If my mom finds out about you and me... Oh no, what should I do?"

Christina Ramey said frantically.

Dirk Carter patted her on the shoulder.

He said, "Since the leader didn't kick me out and didn't expose us, it means it's fine. Don't worry."

"Is it really okay?"

Christina Ramey asked.

Dirk Carter confidently nodded and said, "Don't worry, it's alright."

Though he said it was fine, Dirk Carter still felt uneasy in his heart, after all, who would allow their daughter to be taken advantage of? He couldn't quite decipher what Charlotte Ramey was really thinking.

While they spoke.

Charlotte Ramey had changed into the same nightgown as before.

She walked straight into Dirk Carter's room and took off the nightgown.

She lay down directly on Dirk Carter's bed and said, "Let's start."

Christina Ramey saw this scene.

Her jaw almost dropped in shock.

She looked at Dirk Carter, her eyes full of confusion.

Dirk Carter smiled and said, "Don't worry, there's nothing between your mom and me, I'm just helping her with treatment."

With that.

He walked into the bedroom.

Following was a long session of massage and acupuncture lasting over an hour.

Don't underestimate Charlotte Ramey, who's already forty.

The softness and elasticity of her skin and her graceful figure may slightly pale in comparison to Christina Ramey but not by much.

For a forty-year-old woman to maintain such a state is already top-notch.

Throughout the treatment.

Christina Ramey sat quietly on the side watching.

Dirk Carter's hands almost brushed over every inch of Charlotte Ramey's skin, every sensitive spot.

But just as Dirk Carter said.

They only had a patient-doctor relationship, and nothing improper occurred beyond that.

After the treatment.

Charlotte Ramey put on her clothes.

Dirk Carter asked, "Deputy Mayor Ramey, has there been any change in your body this past week?"

Charlotte Ramey thought for a moment and said, "There should be. I used to have cold hands and feet all the time, but after the treatment, I clearly feel the energy and blood circulation have become vigorous, and my hands and feet aren't cold when I sleep at night."

Dirk Carter nodded.

He said, "That means there is a positive effect. If we continue for a few more sessions, there should be more noticeable results."

"Thank you."

Charlotte Ramey said.

Dirk Carter scratched his head and said, "You're welcome."

Charlotte Ramey looked at Christina Ramey and said, "Christina, I'll be heading back to Ardmore City in a while. Dirk Carter is our tenant, so if you're at home, take good care of him, don't bully him, got it?"

"Mom, how could I possibly bully him?"

Christina Ramey said.

Charlotte Ramey nodded.

She said, "Alright then, you've grown up. There are many things I don't need to nag you about; you understand how to arrange your own life and find your happiness."

Leaving behind these puzzling words.

Charlotte Ramey went into the bedroom.

Not long after.

She came out dressed in formal wear.

Just as she reached the door, she seemed to remember something.

She said to Dirk Carter, "Dirk Carter, can you help carry my bag downstairs?"

Charlotte Ramey's bag was actually very small and not heavy at all.

Upon hearing this.

Christina Ramey quickly said, "Mom, let me help you carry it."

Charlotte Ramey waved her hand and said, "You went to bed late last night, rest a bit more, Dirk Carter can help me."

There was clearly more to her words than met the eye.

Dirk Carter's heart skipped a beat.

He picked up Charlotte Ramey's bag and followed her downstairs.

A car with a Municipal Government license plate was already waiting at the entrance of the residential area.

Charlotte Ramey tossed the bag into the car, turned to Dirk Carter, and said, "Dirk Carter, you're a smart person; some things don't need to be spelled out. Whatever happens between you and Christina, I don't care, but you shouldn't fall in love with her, alright? Or rather, don't let her fall for you, can you do that?"

This statement—

Dirk Carter froze.

Before he could reply, Charlotte Ramey interrupted him.

She said, "I don't need you to explain anything to me. Whoever Christina likes, it's alright, but that person can't be you or anyone in the political circles. I've told you about my past; I used to be just like Christina, in love with someone I could never be with. Even though you're unmarried, I know Christina isn't your ultimate match either."

"Deputy Mayor Ramey..."

At that moment, Dirk Carter seemed to have a vague understanding.

Charlotte Ramey patted him on the shoulder and said, "Young people, feelings are understandable. Christina may be lively, but deep down she's very innocent. As long as she doesn't fall in love with you, whatever else is fine. You understand, right?"

Dirk Carter took a deep breath.

He nodded and said, "Deputy Mayor Ramey, since you've put it this way, I guarantee the same outcome won't happen to Christina, is that acceptable?"
