A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 219: Drunken Lust

Seeing Gwendolyn Lewis so excited.

Dirk Carter asked, "Do you know what the highest level of an open plot is?"

Gwendolyn Lewis was taken aback and shook her head.

Dirk Carter let out a long sigh and said, "That's when you kill with praise."

"Are you saying someone is killing you with praise?"

Gwendolyn Lewis asked.

Dirk Carter nodded slightly and said, "Yorke Payne's suicide brings joy to some and worry to others. The worried ones, naturally, are those who made a fortune relying on him; they're likely crying now. But there are many happy ones too. In politics, there's a place for each person. With Yorke Payne dead, it means a group of people will move up a step."

"After this position opened up, many people wanted to step up and fill it. It must have taken a lot of effort all around. Just at this time, the County Committee nominated me to be Deputy County Mayor, and I just happen to be the least qualified among these people."

Gwendolyn Lewis scratched her head and said, "It was you who uncovered this huge corruption case in the education system, so of course, you're the most qualified."

"That's precisely the problem. Up until now, this case has been kept secret. If I become deputy county mayor at this critical moment, how would people see me? Taking out my leader with my own hands to replace him? What do people in our country hate the most? Traitors. Betrayers. And what's the difference between my situation and those of traitors?"

"Within the system, I've offended a lot of people trying to climb up. Below, I can't stop the rumors. Being caught in the middle, rumors being terrifying, it wouldn't take long before I might have to say goodbye to Kenton County."

Hearing this.

Gwendolyn Lewis got nervous.

Dirk Carter continued, "The position of head of the vocational college preparation group is key. The entire preparation work requires the cooperation of multiple departments, and relying solely on our education bureau won't accomplish much. Since everyone is hostile to me, who will cooperate with my work? When such a large project progresses slowly, the higher-ups will naturally have a reason to hold me accountable, making it easy to transfer me out."

Gwendolyn Lewis took a sharp breath.

Murmured, "Wow, I really didn't see it. That person up top is quite ruthless."

Dirk Carter smiled and said, "But this also shows that the mastermind behind the scenes has acted again. This behavior matches his style. Since he's acted at this critical juncture, it means he intends to profit from the vocational college project."

After speaking.

Dirk Carter's gaze turned sinister.

Pausing, he said, "Since he wants to profit, it means he will certainly expose a flaw. That makes catching him not far off."

"You still want to catch him? He acts so cautiously, rarely showing up. If you catch him, what if both sides get destroyed?"

Gwendolyn Lewis asked worriedly.

Dirk Carter chuckled and said, "If an official doesn't work for the people, he might as well go home and sell sweet potatoes. No matter how ferocious this big tiger is, I will kill it on Suncrest Ridge."

After speaking.

Dirk Carter sighed, checked his watch, and said, "Alright, let's get off work."

Watching Dirk Carter's silhouette disappear down the corridor.

For some reason, Gwendolyn Lewis suddenly felt a bit reluctant.

Dirk Carter had two auras about him: one slightly rogue and another greatly heroic. Having such a mix in one person was truly unique.

Before six-thirty in the evening.

Dirk Carter knocked on Eliza Henderson's door.

A click, the door opened.

Eliza Henderson appeared at the doorway, all flustered. Seeing Dirk Carter, she was even more frantic, "Please, come in."

After Dirk Carter entered.

He noticed that the dining table in the not-too-large apartment had four or five dishes and a bottle of baijiu, looking quite aromatic and appetizing.

"Not bad, you really can cook?"

Dirk Carter asked somewhat pleasantly surprised.

Eliza Henderson blushed deeply.

Said, "Wash your hands, and we can eat."

Dirk Carter, not being polite, sat down, and Eliza Henderson asked, "Do you drink?"

"I drink, but I'm not great at holding my liquor."

Dirk Carter said.

When Eliza Henderson heard this, she looked pleased.

Said, "If you drink, let's have more."

Dirk Carter was taken aback, didn't she hear the latter part of my sentence?

Eliza Henderson poured two full glasses for herself and Dirk Carter.

They began eating heartily, feeding each other bite by bite.

However, Dirk Carter still felt something strange. Eliza Henderson didn't urge him to eat much but kept encouraging him to drink, finishing several ounces of liquor with only a few bites of food.

Without waiting for Dirk Carter to refuse,

She poured him another glass.

Back to clinking glasses again.

It wasn't even thirty minutes when the bottle of baijiu was nearly empty.

Dirk Carter wasn't drunk.

But Eliza Henderson's face was flushed, her gaze unfocused, hinting at intoxication.

"Did you... have too much to drink?"

Eliza Henderson asked, swaying her head.

Dirk Carter laughed, "I had enough. I shouldn't drink more, or I might get drunk."

"Then... we won't drink anymore. I... I'll go change clothes."

Eliza Henderson said, standing up shakily, and went into the bedroom.

Why would she change clothes while drinking?

Dirk Carter was puzzled.

When Eliza Henderson came out of the bedroom, Dirk Carter was stunned, eyes wide open.

In front of him, Eliza Henderson indeed changed into a set of clothes—one that was hard to resist.

A black tight-fitting short-sleeved shirt perfectly accentuated her chest, with a low cut, revealing two plump, white mounds.

Below was a black leather mini skirt, the hem so short it reached the top of her thighs.

Two black bands extended from the skirt, holding up two black knee-high stockings.

The most fatal part—she wore a hexagonal cap on her head.

It was clearly the allure of an American police uniform.

"You..."

Dirk Carter was so shocked he couldn't speak.

Eliza Henderson swayed her hips deliberately, walking towards Dirk Carter.

Then she spun around in front of him, blushing, "Do you like it?"

"Yes, I do."

Dirk Carter nodded.

Eliza Henderson shyly asked, "Do you have any thoughts about me?"

Dirk Carter swallowed, "Should I have thoughts?"

"You can have thoughts."

Eliza Henderson encouraged.

Dirk Carter shook his head, suddenly stood up, and turned towards the door.

Eliza Henderson thought the moment was just right, saw Dirk Carter's actions, and asked, "What are you doing?"

Dirk Carter chuckled, "Officer Eliza, uh... my cat gave birth early, I might need to head back."

"Stop right there!"

Eliza Henderson became anxious, shouting.

Dirk Carter paused.

Eliza Henderson forced a smile, trying her best to appear soft and charming, then reached out and unbuttoned the only button on her shirt.

The shirt parted.

Inside, she was void of anything else.

Two enticing white rabbits trembled slightly, seemingly waving at Dirk Carter.

"Don't you have any thoughts?"

Eliza Henderson asked.

Dirk Carter's heart pounded, "Officer Eliza, if you have something to say, just tell me. You don't need to do this."

Eliza Henderson was so angry her lungs were about to explode.

She clearly didn't know how to seduce a man.

According to her plan, she was to get Dirk Carter drunk today. As the saying goes, people get impulsive after drinking. Once Dirk Carter was drunk, she'd wear something sexy, and he'd irresistibly make the first move.

Unexpectedly, it backfired.

Though the scene was provocative.

But since Dirk Carter didn't know what was going on, he wouldn't dare act rashly.

No choice, she had to intensify the allure, unbuttoning as she thought this would surely trigger Dirk Carter's "beastly" instinct, but instead, he said such souring words.

Does she need to strip completely?
