A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 241: Heavenly Immortal Descends to the Mortal World

"Mayor Levin? Kelton Levin?"

Upon hearing this name, Dirk Carter paused.

Warren Young nodded and said, "Actually, it's not surprising. In case 108, Mayor Levin was implicated for no reason. He originally had hopes of getting to the top position, but now, who knows how many years he'll have to wait. You can't really blame County Chief Simon for being heartless; he was promoted by Mayor Levin, so if the Mayor makes a request, he has no choice but to oblige."

"I understand. In politics, there's no room for personal feelings; interests and positions are the top priority."

Dirk Carter said.

Warren Young smiled bitterly and said, "It's good you understand this; it saves me the trouble of explaining. Currently, the anti-corruption committee intends to remove you from your positions and hand you over to the police for the kidnapping charges. I called you over ahead of time, firstly to mentally prepare you, and secondly because I plan to have you plead your case at the standing committee meeting to try and persuade them."

Persuade?

That's impossible.

Nevertheless.

Dirk Carter still nodded and said, "Thank you, Secretary Young."

"Then wait in the reception room; I'll have someone call you shortly."

"Okay, goodbye Secretary Young."

Dirk left Warren Young's office.

Just as he was about to reach the reception room door.

Dirk Carter ran into someone, Executive Deputy County Chief Caden Dixon, with his secretary Atticus Quinn following behind.

"Oh, who's this? Isn't it our hero, Dirk Carter? What? Dirk is here for the meeting too?"

Caden Dixon sneered at Dirk Carter with a sarcastic smile.

This guy, during the 108 case, was thoroughly used by Dirk Carter, and still holds a grudge against him.

"Secretary Young called me."

Dirk Carter said.

Caden Dixon nodded and said, "Secretary Young really appreciates talent, but it's a shame some people don't recognize their limits. I've always said people like that don't get far."

"I'll remember Executive Dixon's words."

Dirk Carter replied, then entered the reception room.

Seeing Dirk Carter's indifferent attitude.

Atticus Quinn asked, "Leader, should I find someone to rough him up a bit?"

Caden Dixon waved his hand and said, "Don't rush, time is long. Soon enough, this kid will be dealt with, and it won't take a minute to handle him. Later, greet Secretary Guan; once Dirk is in custody, make sure they take good care of him, understand my meaning?"

"Hehe, I understand."

Atticus Quinn answered smugly.

At 10:30 AM.

The County Committee Standing Meeting officially started.

Today's meeting had only one agenda item: how to deal with Dirk Carter, the Education Bureau Chief.

The meeting began.

Caden Dixon passionately articulated, referencing the demands of Evermore Education Group, fiercely accusing Dirk Carter and criticizing his actions, claiming they caused significant damage to Kenton County.

Others also chimed in, unanimously agreeing that Dirk Carter should not only be dismissed but also bear criminal responsibility.

After Caden Dixon finished speaking.

Simon Lewis, who had remained silent, looked gloomily at Warren Young and asked, "Secretary Young, Caden Dixon has just reported the situation. How do you think we should handle this matter?"

Warren Young looked around the room.

He said, "I brought Dirk Carter here today. Why don't we hear from him?"

"Alright, since Secretary Young deems it necessary, I have no objections."

Simon Lewis said.

Warren Young glanced at Emery Hendricks, who understood and went out. About a minute later, Dirk Carter appeared in the meeting room.

"Dirk Carter, I've already discussed the situation with you in the office; there's no need to repeat it. I brought you here to ask if you have anything to explain?"

Warren Young asked.

Dirk Carter paused for a moment, then shook his head and said, "I have nothing to explain."

Nothing?

Warren Young and Simon Lewis were taken aback.

They had originally thought, given Dirk Carter's eloquence, even if he couldn't prevent the worst outcome, he could at least mitigate some of the "losses." They didn't expect him to not even attempt to defend himself.

"Secretary Young, do you see this? What does it mean to not care if a dead pig scalds? With his attitude, what's there to say? I suggest we proceed with the dismissal procedure."

Caden Dixon immediately sneered with contempt.

Simon Lewis let out a long sigh and said, "Alright, since that's the case, let's begin the dismissal procedure. I personally agree to removing Dirk Carter from his posts."

"I agree too."

Simon Lewis had just finished speaking.

Caden Dixon eagerly stretched out his hand to agree.

"I disagree!"

Just as Caden Dixon finished speaking.

A woman's voice came from the doorway.

It startled everyone.

Then.

A woman in an overcoat walked in leisurely; her figure was outstanding, and especially her face, which could be described as fairy-like without exaggeration.

Dirk Carter was also taken aback upon seeing her.

"Who are you? Who let you in?"

Caden Dixon furrowed his brow and asked.

Dirk Carter was about to speak, but the woman winked at him, signaling him not to say anything, then she scanned the room and asked, "If Kenton Vocational and Technical College can receive timely investment, does that mean Dirk Carter is without fault and deserving of praise?"

Caden Dixon initially wanted to send her out.

But her bold words made him laugh.

He said, "Who are you? Speaking so boldly! If you can have Evermore Education Group continue investing, I guarantee Dirk Carter won't be dismissed; I'll vouch for him in my capacity as Executive Deputy County Chief."

"Good, that's what you said."

The woman smiled charmingly, her beauty overwhelming.

She walked to the door and said, "You may come in."

Just as she spoke.

A middle-aged man in a suit obediently walked in.

His arrival made everyone, including Caden Dixon, Warren Young, and Simon Lewis, stand up.

"Chairman Bishop, what brings you here?"

Caden Dixon was startled, and asked incredulously.

The renowned chairman of Evermore Education Group, Gael Bishop, had personally shown up.

Gael Bishop took a deep breath.

He said, "On behalf of Evermore Education Group, I announce that the investment in Kenton County Vocational and Technical College will proceed, and not only that, it will be increased from the previous 3.3 billion to 3.8 billion. According to the previous agreement, the first installment will be available tomorrow."

What?

Everyone present couldn't believe their ears.

Gael Bishop had publicly stated the suspension of investment, and had informed both the Ardmore City Committee and Kenton County Committee. When someone of his level says something, it's not a joke.

But in just a few days.

He overturned his previous statement, even promising additional investment. What's going on here?

"Umm... Deputy County Chief, everyone here heard what you said. As long as the investment isn't suspended, you guarantee Dirk Carter won't be dismissed, right?"

The woman asked with raised eyebrows.

Caden Dixon hesitated: "This..."

He didn't quite know how to respond.

He looked at Simon Lewis.

Simon Lewis was also bewildered by this turn of events.

He cleared his throat and said, "Since Evermore Education Group is still willing to invest, naturally the loss doesn't exist. But the kidnapping incident involving Dirk Carter..."

"Yes, the kidnapping is a criminal offense, unrelated to this council's decision."

Caden Dixon immediately echoed.

The woman smiled slightly, seemingly having anticipated this.

She called out toward the door, "You may come in."

Just then.

Yet another man walked in.

The man was, in fact, Penn Vincent, Vice President of Evermore Education Group.

Penn Vincent looked somewhat timid, even fearful.

The woman patted him on the shoulder and said, "Penn, come on, it's your turn."
