A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 274: Late-Stage Bootlicker Cancer

Kelton Levin waved his hand and said, "I know about Ignatius Morgan's ambition. He has always been the deputy in the city, and now he finally has the opportunity to show his abilities in the local area. Naturally, he might be a bit overzealous in his actions. It's okay, let's observe over time."

Edmund Yule has followed Kelton Levin for many years.

He's the one who understands his leader the best.

Kelton Levin is greedy and lustful, not to mention.

His personality is hard to pin down for most people.

The calmer he is, the bigger the issue proves to be.

Just like now, "deputy," "show abilities," "overzealous," and "observe" all sound ordinary, but it already proves that he has opinions about Bjorn Dixon.

At dusk.

Dirk Carter arrived at the county hospital.

He pushed open Arlo Yarbrough's door and saw him leaning on the window, holding a telescope, observing a building directly across.

"What are you looking at?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Arlo Yarbrough shivered.

The telescope almost fell to the ground.

Patting his chest, he scolded angrily, "What's wrong with you? Can't you make a sound when you walk?"

"Is it me who doesn't make a sound when walking or you are too engrossed? What are you watching? Let me see!"

Dirk Carter wanted to take the telescope from Arlo Yarbrough's hands, but Arlo Yarbrough dodged.

Squinting his eyes, he glanced at the opposite building, seeing a chubby woman on the second-floor balcony, drying clothes.

It was Beibei.

"Can't you have some decency?"

Dirk Carter said irritably.

Arlo Yarbrough pouted and said, "Blame me? If not for you, the shower window wouldn't have been blocked. Now I'm stuck using a telescope."

"I'm... I'm telling you to have some decency by changing the woman, not by continuing to peep."

Dirk Carter was speechless.

Arlo Yarbrough sat down and said, "I'm not changing. Thanks to my persistent effort, Beibei the goddess has started responding to me recently."

"Oh?"

Dirk Carter suddenly became interested.

Pulled up a chair and sat down, asking, "How did she respond? Share it?"

Arlo Yarbrough said happily, "Beibei asked me to buy her two movie tickets, hehe, she's planning a movie date with me."

"Isn't it possible, she's just asking you to help buy them, and she plans to watch the movie with her husband?"

When Dirk Carter said that.

Arlo Yarbrough was stunned.

Mumbling for a while, he said, "Then why didn't she ask someone else, but me? This means I am the one she needs; she trusts me at critical moments."

Dirk Carter put two fingers on Arlo Yarbrough's pulse, pretended to diagnose for a moment, and said, "Lip pallet late stage, no cure."

"Pfft, you're just jealous, hating me because you don't understand my happiness."

Arlo Yarbrough said dismissively.

Dirk Carter just wanted to pretend to be vomiting blood.

The door was pushed open.

Caden Dixon walked in.

The two guys joking around instantly became serious.

This office was the meeting spot agreed upon by all three.

"So, was the trip to Ardmore City fruitful?"

Once Caden Dixon sat down, he immediately asked.

Dirk Carter nodded and said, "Although Kelton Levin hasn't completely trusted me, he might be intrigued."

This was good news.

Caden Dixon had a smile on his face and said, "I've also mentioned The Tonight Club to Bjorn Dixon, and he's intrigued. We've already agreed once your deputy county magistrate order is out, we'll launch action there. You've better prepare well, don't let a disaster unfold."

Dirk Carter said, "Don't worry, I've arranged it all."

Caden Dixon nodded slightly and said, "After this battle, Bjorn Dixon will pretty much lose Kelton Levin's trust. He still holds the position of county magistrate in Kenton County and has gathered quite a few followers. When pushed to the edge, he's capable of anything, be extra careful."

Dirk Carter's gaze turned somber.

He said, "Rest assured, my second round of plans has already started. If he remains obstinate, his end will be total ruin."

"There's another issue, the new county committee secretary should be taking office within days."

Caden Dixon said worriedly.

Dirk Carter asked, "Is the candidate decided?"

Caden Dixon frowned and said, "I've heard it's already decided, yet no information from the city. Don't know what's going on, only some figure is mentioned, no other details."

"Ignore this for now, let's deal with the current matters first."

Dirk Carter said.

Caden Dixon nodded and said, "Then I'll head back, got a meeting later."

"It's already dark and you're still having a meeting?"

Dirk Carter asked curiously.

Caden Dixon sighed and said, "Bloomdale Town called several times about the mountain being unstable, likely leading to landslides, so we're having an emergency meeting to investigate. Anyway, I won't say more; I'll go. Wait for your transfer order, then we'll meet."

After speaking.

Caden Dixon hurriedly left.

Once gone.

Dirk Carter looked at Arlo Yarbrough fiddling with movie tickets and said, "You're off work too, wanna treat me to dinner?"

"I'm broke."

Arlo Yarbrough replied without thinking.

Dirk Carter was stunned and asked, "You're a single guy, an orthopedic doctor no less, earns more than me. Why are you broke?"

"Just a few days until Valentine's Day, planning to take Beibei out to play."

"She agreed?"

"Not yet!"

Arlo Yarbrough said.

For some reason, Dirk Carter had the urge to punch him to death.

He suppressed it in the end.

And said, "Valentine's Day, she doesn't spend with her husband but with you, do you think that's possible?"

"Hehe, her husband's working overtime that day; I've confirmed it. I'll take her for a western dinner, then strolling through a park, then..."

Arlo Yarbrough happily shared his vision.

Dirk Carter couldn't stand it.

Cut him off mercilessly, "Buddy, have you considered if her husband finds out about your flirting with a married woman, he might break your leg one day?"

"Who cares if he breaks my leg? I'm an orthopedic doctor."

Arlo Yarbrough asked.

Dirk Carter slammed to his feet and said, "Fine, go on living your pipe dream, I'm out."

As he was heading out the door.

Arlo Yarbrough was still planning his Valentine's activities.

As Dirk Carter walked out of the hospital.

A voice called from behind, "Dirk Carter!"

Dirk Carter turned around.

Saw a woman wearing a wool coat.

It was none other than Rosalind Sullivan.

She dressed simply today, a pink coat with a white form-fitting turtleneck sweater underneath, and a chic hat, looking stylish yet understated.

With her delicate Veridia features, she seemed like someone stepped out of a painting.

"Dr. Sullivan? You're back?"

Dirk Carter called out in surprise.

Rosalind Sullivan smiled softly, approached, and said, "I know everything you've done for me, thank you."

His words left Dirk Carter a bit embarrassed.

He scratched his head and said, "It wasn't entirely for you; someone like Pete Perry won't stop hurting others unless taught a lesson."

"Still, thank you."

Rosalind Sullivan repeated softly.

Right at that moment.

Dirk Carter's stomach rumbled.

Rosalind Sullivan chuckled and said, "Let me treat you to dinner."

"Um... Sure."

After agreeing, Rosalind Sullivan told him to wait a moment.

Then she drove the car from the parking lot.

The two found a restaurant, booked a private room, and leisurely ate dinner.

"Dr. Sullivan, I noticed your accent, you're not local, are you?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Rosalind Sullivan nodded and said, "I'm from Preveridia Province."

Dirk Carter realized and said, "No wonder."

"No wonder what?"

Rosalind Sullivan asked curiously.

Dirk Carter chuckled and said, "Dr. Sullivan's appearance is typical of Veridia, the elegant charm of Southern women, hearing you're from Preveridia Province isn't surprising. But I'm curious, Preveridia Province is more developed than Serenity State, so why choose to work in such a small place instead? Wouldn't city hospitals have more opportunities?"
