A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 287: The Whistleblower Letter

Helen Fletcher spread her legs and raised them high.

One hand held a phone, aiming the camera at herself, while the other hand reached between her legs, caressing the petals.

After striking a pose, she took a photo.

Then she extended her middle finger, probing between the lotus petals until half the finger was inserted inside, and took another photo.

The most explosive was the last photo.

After withdrawing her finger, she placed it by her lips, extending her tongue to lick the glistening finger.

After taking these three photos.

Her expression immediately relaxed.

She sat on the toilet and operated on her phone for a while.

With a long sigh, she put her pajamas back on and walked out of the bathroom.

The ambiguous mood that had just been cultivated.

Was now completely gone.

Returning to the living room.

They both sat down on the sofa.

After a moment of silence, Helen looked at Dirk Carter and asked, "Do you think I'm lewd?"

"No."

Dirk Carter said.

Helen rubbed her face and said, "It doesn't matter, anyway, you've seen the most humiliating things, I have no secrets in front of you."

"Why do you take these photos?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Helen smiled bitterly and said, "For the same reason as last time. Ever since his impotence and premature ejaculation, his personality completely changed. Every time he humiliates me, it somehow has a stimulating effect on him. Taking photos is the same; almost every day, he makes me find different places to take similar photos for him, to satisfy his perverted mind."

"Is he using these to cure himself?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Helen shook her head and said, "The doctor said it's hopeless. It's not for treatment, maybe just to monitor me. Ever since he lost that ability, he always feels I'll find a man outside, so he uses this way to know what I'm doing every moment."

She told Dirk Carter.

Today was considered good.

At least she could find a bathroom to take selfies.

Sometimes, when she's outside, her husband makes her find a place to take such photos, whether in a mall, a furniture store, or an office. Even when she's in a meeting, Helen has to take photos immediately for him.

Moreover, he doesn't allow her to wear underwear, just to make it easier for him to ask for photos at any time.

When saying these words.

She was resentful, and her eyes were moist.

Dirk Carter handed her a tissue and asked, "Are you doing this voluntarily?"

Helen laughed self-deprecatingly and said, "Even if I wasn't willing, what could I do? Their family is immensely powerful. Whatever I have today is thanks to them, and he has so many embarrassing photos and videos of me. If I say I don't want to or can't, he uses them to threaten me. What can I do?"

Hearing this.

Dirk Carter thought of Delilah Goodman.

But the situation with Helen was completely different than that of Delilah.

Delilah's husband is just a jerk, while Helen's husband is a high-and-mighty jerk.

Dirk Carter suddenly thought of something quite intriguing.

The married women he had encounters with seemed to have extremely unhappy families.

Some were even quite tragic.

But on second thought, it made sense.

If the family were happy, who would go seeking trouble outside?

"Have you ever thought about getting a divorce?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Helen coldly laughed and said, "Divorce? What a joke. If I propose a divorce now, my life would be immediately ruined, with no room to spare."

This statement is not mere fear-mongering.

Helen's in-laws do have the ability to make it so.

"Dirk, I came to you today because I want you to help me with something."

Suddenly, Helen looked up and said.

Dirk Carter nodded and said, "Helen, just let me know what you need."

"Do you know Templeton Quill from the Tobacco Bureau?"

Helen asked.

Dirk Carter nodded and said, "Templeton Quill is the director of the Kenton County Tobacco Bureau. I'm responsible for liaising with them. I've met him a few times, but not very well."

Helen took an envelope out of the pocket of her clothes and said, "This is a letter of accusation, take a look."

A letter of accusation?

Dirk Carter opened the envelope and took out the folded letter paper.

There were seven or eight pages in total.

This letter accuses Templeton Quill, the director of the Kenton County Tobacco Bureau.

The first few pages accused Templeton Quill of improper promotions, irregular hiring, and embezzlement, bribery, and abuse of power. Starting from the fourth page, the accuser listed a horrifying case.

He said his daughter was hired through regular channels by the tobacco bureau last September.

Less than half a month after joining the tobacco bureau, she was raped by Director Templeton Quill.

The victim intended to report it to the police, but Templeton Quill learned of it in advance, intercepted her, and then his daughter was detained for about ten days, during which she was gang-raped by multiple men until her spirit broke, and she was sent to a mental hospital.

The accuser made many attempts to retrieve her to no avail, went to the County Criminal Investigation Division to report, and visited the county petition office, yet he was repeatedly unjustly detained. Until now, he has no way to appeal and hasn't seen his daughter, so, in rage, he wrote this letter to the State Commission for Discipline Inspection.

After reading all the contents.

Dirk Carter looked sharply at Helen and asked, "You came to Kenton County for this?"

Helen nodded and said, "The State Commission for Discipline Inspection took the letter very seriously and sent me to Kenton County to investigate. That time when we met, I had just finished the case."

Dirk Carter scratched his head and asked, "Since the case has been closed, why do you still need my help?"

"The case is temporarily closed, but the facts haven't been uncovered, because the accuser is already dead."

"What? How did he die?"

Dirk Carter shivered and asked.

Helen sighed and said, "The accuser, named Dennis Vincent, ran a simple convenience store for a living in Kenton County. His daughter, Coltrane Vincent, aged 24, joined the tobacco bureau through regular channels. Just the day before I arrived in Kenton County, Dennis Vincent committed suicide at home by drinking pesticide."

"Was it murder?"

Dirk Carter asked, alarmed.

Helen shook her head and said, "I don't know, but according to the police investigation, the pesticide was indeed purchased by Dennis Vincent himself, and before he died, he left a note. The note said he was in debt, initially intending for his daughter to seduce the leader and then blackmail them, but things didn't go as planned, and his daughter was traumatized to madness, so in utter despair, he chose suicide."

By comparing with the handwriting in the letter of accusation.

The note Dennis Vincent wrote before his death was indeed written by him, meaning the note was indeed his.

Additionally, several IOUs were found at Dennis Vincent's home, with total borrowings amounting to over 400,000.

It was precisely for this reason.

All the leads Helen had in Kenton County were cut off, forcing her to halt the investigation, leading to the "chance encounter" with Dirk Carter later.

No wonder Helen was in such a bad mood that day. This was the reason.

"After returning, I read this letter of accusation many times and still felt there was an injustice in it. I initially wanted to apply to continue the investigation with my unit, but it was not approved, leaving me no choice but to find a way to take a post in Kenton County."

Helen said with a big sigh.

"You suspect Dennis Vincent was forced to death, don't you?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Helen nodded and said, "I visited Coltrane Vincent in the psychiatric hospital. She was a very young, beautiful girl. Although her mind was already in disorder, she always muttered about missing her father. Even though she lost her sanity, she still thought of her father, indicating her father usually loved her a lot. How could a father who loved her so much make her do such a thing?"
