A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 306: I Don't Have Much Class

"Dirk Carter! You're just too rude!"

Wilbur Holloway didn't know how to retort, so he could only shout, his face red with anger.

Dirk Carter sneered and said, "Rude? I can be even ruder. I'm afraid if I say it, even your ancestors from eighteen generations back will come after you, even those in the eighteenth level of hell won't be at peace."

"Your ancestors are the ones in hell."

Wilbur Holloway was clearly at his wit's end.

Their words were becoming increasingly nonsensical.

Bjorn Dixon finally put on a stern face and reprimanded, "Enough. Continuing like this doesn't look even a bit like a deputy mayor!"

"County Mayor Dixon, it's him..."

Wilbur Holloway still wanted to accuse Dirk Carter.

Bjorn Dixon gave him a glare and said, "Since we can't reach a unified opinion, let's bring this to the County Committee meeting for discussion."

"County Mayor Dixon, taking something already decided by the County Committee to the county government meeting for discussion, isn't it a bit overstepping?"

What Bjorn Dixon was thinking, everyone could see.

Caden Dixon said somewhat displeased.

Bjorn Dixon snorted coldly and said, "I naturally have to follow the Committee's decision, but post-disaster reconstruction is not a small matter. I don't feel comfortable having Dirk Carter handle it alone. Ultimately, it's all about doing the job well."

"County Mayor Dixon, I have a suggestion. Please see if it's feasible?"

Suddenly, Wilbur Holloway interrupted everyone's words.

Bjorn Dixon said, "Go ahead."

Wilbur Holloway gave Dirk Carter a provocative look and said, "County Mayor Dixon, the most urgent need in Rearpond Village's reconstruction is funds. The city and county have allocated some, and we've received some social donations, but it's clearly not enough to settle over a thousand people. How about we launch a donation campaign, with Dirk Carter and me handling it separately, and whoever raises more funds takes the lead on this matter, how about it?"

"I disagree, isn't this child's play? How can work be allocated based on donation amounts?"

Caden Dixon immediately expressed his opposition upon hearing this.

Bjorn Dixon said, "Fundraising is also part of the ability to work. Dirk Carter, what do you think?"

"I have no problem with it."

Dirk Carter said.

"Dirk!"

Caden Dixon was anxious and gave him a meaningful look.

Dirk Carter pretended not to see it at all.

Bjorn Dixon smiled and said, "Then it's decided. I'll give you both three days. After three days, we'll hold a donation ceremony at the county government entrance. Whoever has the larger amount raised will lead the rebuilding of Rearpond Village. That's it, meeting adjourned."

Since it was already set.

No one could say anything further.

Once the three of them left Bjorn Dixon's office, they reached the stairs, and Caden Dixon scolded, "Dirk Carter, such a good opportunity, are you really planning to give it up?"

"Why do you say I'm giving it up?"

Dirk Carter asked, confused.

Caden Dixon said angrily, "You know that Wilbur Holloway used to be in charge of corporate and investment affairs. His relationship with Kenton County's businesses is very good; it's much easier for him to solicit donations than for you. You've been in Kenton County for so long without much corporate foundation. Are you planning to mobilize the education system for donations?"

"It's not impossible."

Dirk Carter laughed and said.

Seeing Caden Dixon about to burst into anger again.

Dirk Carter quickly patted him on the shoulder and said, "Executive Director Dixon, don't worry. I will handle this matter beautifully."

Then.

He leaned close to Caden Dixon's ear.

And said, "After this donation campaign, your position will need to move a bit."

"What do you mean?"

Caden Dixon asked.

Dirk Carter smiled and said, "You'll know in a few days."

Having said that.

He quickly chased after Edith Walsh.

In a few quick steps.

Caught up with Edith Walsh.

Edith Walsh turned around, saw Dirk Carter, smiled, and said, "You really have quite a way, you can insult people without using any dirty words. Just now Wilbur Holloway was so mad his nose was practically smoking."

"Can't help it. Some people are so pretentious, disdainful of using coarse language, thinking it would tarnish their status. I'm different; I don't have much class."

Dirk Carter chuckled.

Edith Walsh laughed and said, "At least you have a clear self-awareness, not bad."

Dirk Carter leaned close to Edith Walsh's ear and whispered, "Deputy Mayor Walsh, how about a hook-up sometime?"

The moment Edith Walsh heard it, her face turned red.

Stopped in her tracks, looked around, luckily no one was there, and angrily said, "Dirk Carter, are you crazy, talking about this in broad daylight?"

"Deputy Mayor Walsh once said if I survived a major crisis, you'd deliver if I wanted to sleep with you."

Dirk Carter's expression became somewhat lewd.

Edith Walsh, with a flushed face, stammered, "That... that was because at the time... I thought I'd die..."

"So you're saying Deputy Mayor Walsh doesn't keep her word?"

Dirk Carter provocatively asked.

Edith Walsh stamped her foot, red-faced, and said, "Not that... but it's daylight now..."

"Then you're saying you'll deliver later at night?"

Dirk Carter kept pressing.

Edith Walsh had no retreat.

Took a deep breath and said, "Alright, go book a hotel room tonight and wait for me."

"I'm joking."

Dirk Carter made a funny face at her then ran off quickly.

Edith Walsh stood there, wishing she could find a hole to hide in.

"You stupid Dirk Carter, damn Dirk Carter, you really are bad to the bone..."

There was no choice but to secretly curse a couple of words to feel better.

Returning to the office, it was about closing time.

Tomorrow was the weekend.

She could rest well.

Dirk Carter, humming a tune, had just reached downstairs when his phone rang; he checked the number and it was Maeve Winters calling.

This woman, planning for a "three-headed night" tonight?

"Where are you?"

As soon as he answered, Maeve Winters rudely asked.

"Off work, what's up?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Maeve Winters said, "I'm waiting for you across the street, no need to ride the motorcycle, I'll give you a lift."

Indeed, this woman was eagerly waiting.

Dirk Carter took a deep breath and crossed the road; sure enough, Maeve Winters was already in her car waving at him.

Got into the passenger seat.

Maeve Winters closed the window and asked, "Did you take the Six Flavors Rehmannia Pill?"

"Dirk Carter doesn't let his gold gun fall; that stuff doesn't work on me."

Dirk Carter said.

Maeve Winters, looking suggestively, asked, "Really? Then am I going to get a heavenly ride tonight?"

"I have one request!"

Dirk Carter raised a finger and said.

Maeve Winters said, "Go ahead."

Dirk Carter said, "Can we find a bed? We've done it so many times, not once have we done it on a bed, how about..."

"You wish."

Maeve Winters floored the gas, and the car sped off.

Along the main road, they drove for about ten minutes, Dirk Carter looked out the window a few times and asked, "This isn't the way to my house? Are we going to yours?"

"To the seaside!"

"What are we going to the seaside for?"

"You tell me?"

Maeve Winters retorted.

Dirk Carter shook his head helplessly and said, "Alright, since I'm in your car, can't escape your grasp."

They drove for about half an hour and pulled up by Quiverfall Beach.

Kenton County is a coastal tourist city with many open beach spots, but Quiverfall Beach isn't one of them.

It's an unmanaged, niche beach, typically visited sparingly.

Just as Dirk Carter stepped out of the car, he saw flickering campfire light in the distance on the beach.

He commented, "Looks like there are plenty of romantic folks like you out there."

Maeve Winters glanced sideways at him and said, "I usually lack any romance, but someone is romantic. This whole affair was instigated by her."

"Delilah Goodman is here too?"

Dirk Carter asked, surprised.

Maeve Winters flicked his forehead and asked, "Are you starting to look forward to tonight's camping?"

Camping?

Are they really going to sleep on the beach tonight?

By late March, Kenton County wasn't so cold anymore; the sea breeze felt surprisingly comfortable.

On the beach, three tents had been set up, and in the middle, a bonfire burned brightly.

One silhouette was busy at the barbecue grill.
